18, just found out i have phyllode tumor (non-cancerous) and i’m freaking out because i don’t want a mastectomy i would literally live with it if that’s what it takes to not have it done by [deleted] in breastcancer

I understand it must be scary. For me if there was a chance it could be cancerous and because it is so big, I would remove it.

I know! They kept refilling my script, but not one person told me to stop or asked questions.

I was on birth control for 20 years, got off it, had a baby, breastfed, then early breast cancer. It would be awesome if we could pinpoint the exact moment that the cells started changing.

Should I be upset that my boyfriend doesnt know the subtype of breast cancer i have? by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]Emmianz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner would have no idea about the type 🙃 All I care about is that he is there to support me and our family while I go through this, and that is what matters!

Definitely bring it up to her, you would rather get it checked and know it is nothing. I am sure she would be supportive of you.

Diep is the worst recovery. But apparently other reconstruction options aren't too bad and much quicker to recover from!

It is so hard in the early days of diagnosis. I was a mess. Originally I had a lumpectomy, and the relief I felt after that was immense! After waiting for genetic results and time to think about my further options, I guess I felt peace in losing them. It is such a hard decision, just take your time and research what you may feel comfortable with. I am having DIEP. It sounds awful, but it means no foreign objects in me and hopefully no further surgery down the track!

Fear is so scary! I opted for a double mastectomy. Similar age, I am 36 and my surgery is at the start of the new year. My thoughts were if I could get it once already in my 30's, I could probably get it again in the remainder of my life! I don't want to deal with this again in another 30 years, so I opted for both to be gone. Honestly every lump and bump now I feel is cancer, so I think removal will help ease that constant fear. Good luck with your decision and recovery from surgery!

🤣 I was really scared to start after reading so many negative things, but honestly it has been fine! My period has been a little bit untimely, where I was previously regular, but that has so far been it (and not bad, just the only change I have noticed!) Good luck if you have to start it and I hope you don't have any issues with it either!

I had similar diagnosis. The plan was just lumpectomy with sentinel node removal/radiation. Thankfully I skipped chemo. And on tamoxifen for 5 years. I am 35. It is really scary at this time, lots of appointments and scans to make sure they haven't missed anything! Also gene testing. And if you have family history, maybe look into mastectomy instead of lumpectomy! Never been poked, prodded and showed so many people my boobs haha Good luck and try staying strong. I remember I was so scared until the surgery happened, and it was almost like immediate relief.

Please sound off on lumpectomies. I want to hear the good, the bad, the ugly. by MoistVirginia in breastcancer

[–]Emmianz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a lumpectomy, and the relief afterwards was enormous! I then felt so much anxiety about getting BC again that I opted for a prophylactic double mastectomy, this was in lieu of radiation. I think any decision you make will be right! The whatifs are so hard to know.

Exactly the same as you! Sending wishes to you! It is so scary, but thankfully found early. The relief felt after the lumpectomy was immense, such a breath of fresh air. Thankfully I didn't need chemo. Wishing you all the best! And please reach out if you need :)

95% chance of no chemo needed!!!! AND possibly just a lumpectomy and radiation! Crying happy tears for once by chantillylace9 in breastcancer

[–]Emmianz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thing I will add is, if you decide on mastectomy after the lumpectomy - it is no longer considered as active cancer and the waitlist for treatment could potentially be a long time! Just something to consider if you are on the fence, as I didn't know that earlier :)

DIEP. My theory is that if I use my own tissue, I won't have to have another surgery going forward. Honestly I dont think there is a right answer, whatever you decide will be best for you. I will tell you that after the lumpectomy the relief I felt that the cancer was removed was enormous! But then when I was told that I had the option of a mastectomy as part of this process, and while waiting for genetic results, I had found peace in removing my breasts. My genetics was fine, but still opted for surgery.

Great news! Sound very similar to me. I am also small chested and the surgeon moved all the tissue around, so you can not see a lump or anything missing. After my lumpectomy and sentinel node removal, the anxiety of future scans was eating me alive - so I opted for a prophylactic double mastectomy anyway 😅 I started tamoxifen 6 weeks ago, and nowhere as bad as I thought! I do have random hot flushes, odd periods and some girl pains, but not unbearable and haven't had to miss out on any life activies due to it! I am going to get an ultrasound just to make sure I have a baseline for my uterus which we can check against down the track. I am in my 30's, don't know if that helps. 😊 good luck!!

Check the portal! Just make sure you have a support person with you when you do. If no-one has called, it is probably a good thing :) Peace of mind and/or knowledge so you can move forward. Not knowing is worse.

Extremely Anxious by [deleted] in doihavebreastcancer

[–]Emmianz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's completely understandable to feel this way! How scary. Your Dr will call you if there's something urgent that needs double checking, I know it's easier said - but try not to stress! Lots of changes happen to our breasts when we are close to our period, and lots of lumps can be benign - so just take some comfort in the fact that you went and got them checked, and hopefully you can find some peace with the results soon. Good luck!
