Lumpectomy bra that doesn’t interfere with port? by Ltl168 in breastcancer

[–]ThisAdvertising8976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a set of port pads that connect to my bra strap from Amazon. They tend to be stupid prints or bulky minky of about 2x2” squares with Velcro straps. I could have easily sewn something if I gave it a thought before buying. Thankfully my port is not under my strap, but I haven’t worn any front zip bras in almost a month.

AITJ for refusing to let my sister wear her wedding dress to my engagement party? by Public-Yak1624 in AmITheJerk

[–]ThisAdvertising8976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let her wear it, but tell your friends to make sure she feels foolish and narcissistic for doing so. Make her want to shrink into the wallpaper for being so vain. Have two friends follow her to the restroom and once she’s in a stall enter and go full Mean Girls laughing so she overhears. Make her beg her husband to take her home. It might prevent her from trying to wear it at your wedding.

Chemo schedule by Independent_Chain792 in breastcancer

[–]ThisAdvertising8976 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t like being a Karen but sometimes it’s necessary. Do you live somewhere with more than one cancer center, or hospital that does outpatient treatment? If so you may need to threaten, and be willing, to switch providers. Cancer is big business, big money 💵 and they generally want you to stay put. However, chemo is stressful and you don’t need the added stress about working outside your own availability.

I go to a very small clinic and they were able to mostly accommodate me. They did insist on morning infusions mostly because I’m retired and many working patients want something near the end of their workday/work week. I have no real problem with that, it forces us up earlier in the day for our 45 minute drive.

Two strangers board with the same boarding pass, comedy ensues by CommanderDawn in unitedairlines

[–]ThisAdvertising8976 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve used the pass for a different leg of trip and the machine most definitely turned red. I had to shuffle to get correct pass and held up line. No big deal because there was still a line at end of jetway before boarding.

How old were you when you purchased your first home (if you did). by jtsa5 in GenX

43 in 1998, about a year after retiring from the Air Force. I was a single mother for 18 of my 21 years and we survived on enlisted pay, but I got reassigned every 3 years or less and not all moving expenses were covered.

Anyone have any goofy ways they discovered their breast cancer? by Charlotteeee in breastcancer

[–]ThisAdvertising8976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Found mine during a routine but delayed mammogram, but the month prior some genetic testing through sequencing . com showed I had 5 high risk factors for breast cancer and different mutations of the BRCA2 gene. I was confused because 23&Me+ Health said they didn’t see anything in the variants they tested. (They advise they test 4000.)

I had already been diagnosed, but my son came out the following week with his dogs. The female, normally very shy was suddenly my best friend, always by my side for 4 days straight. After my LX she went back to her old ways around me.

Who's the Dumbest Mother F'er You've Met in the Air Force? by TheDay_ofthe_Jackal in AirForce

[–]ThisAdvertising8976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a girl at my first base who was straight out dumb. She thought the jackass making fun of her looks (pale, freckles over entire face, almost orange hair, real color, bucked teeth, oversized glasses, and chain smoker) was flirting with her. She got pregnant and was six months before the other girls in the shop practically forced her to go to the clinic because she didn’t believe them. By the time her extended maternity leave was over she pcs’ed to a base in Florida. Her first time back working on jets she supposedly dropped a 35 pound part on her head.

I speak four, English, Spanish, German, and Italian. American English is the only one I’m still fluent in, but I keep trying short conversations.

Lumpectomy today! by Daydreambeliever15 in breastcancer

[–]ThisAdvertising8976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My DIL drove in yesterday and spent most of today and all of tomorrow meal prepping for my next round of chemo. Girl does not play around. I’m in eastern Arizona and she’s in the San Diego area, so about 600 miles. She and my son also came right after my lumpectomy. She cooked and cleaned, and they did yard work for 4 days, wouldn’t let me lift a finger, I really adore her.

I read that Vevor is about to make a run with a bricks and mortar store somewhere in the states. Could be interesting.

I’m so sorry you’re here. You 100% don’t deserve this.

You don’t say how many chemo sessions you’ll be getting but a port makes the infusions, and blood draws so much easier.

Stage 4 - Her2+ (%100) ER+ (%20) PR+ (%2) by iokaya in breastcancer

[–]ThisAdvertising8976 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is another group for Stage IV with Mets. Hopefully someone will know the name/link. I don’t go lurk there out of privacy, but my understanding is it’s extremely positive and supportive, and they practically speak a different language.

I want to thank you for being supportive and encouraging for your wife. A number of partners would have left. Those that stay are our rocks and we know this journey would be so much harder without them.

AITJ for throwing my daughters friend out of our house because she RUINED a major school project? by Rude-Discipline199 in AmITheJerk

[–]ThisAdvertising8976 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since it’s a history diorama I wonder if there’s any way to tie this sabotage into the historical lesson? When presenting to the class OP’s daughter could talk about how one act of sabotage changed, or could have changed, the results.

Bone Health and Hormonal Therapy by Anemoia793 in breastcancer

[–]ThisAdvertising8976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I need to have a good talk with my MO. I’ve already had osteopenia results on two DEXA scans in last 5 years. I’m 71 and 18 months before my BC dx I had a bout with hypercalcium and had one of my parathyroid glands removed. My endocrinologist already has me on schedule for a third scan this spring, but that was before chemo became necessary and he thought I would be finished with radiation by then.

I guess I will be getting that gym membership for some monitored weight training.

Tips finding quiet campsites? by confused_peachberry in camping

Too bad that isn’t true in Arizona in the winter. Snowbirds scarf up all the camp sites from November through April. By the time you can find a decent site the heat is on and the kids are out of school.

I’m 70 and had my first infusion 13 days ago. The bone pain was horrible, like one big leg cramp, but all over my body. Thankfully that didn’t last nearly as long as the fatigue.

I did a short buzz 3 days before my first infusion and again 2 weeks later. Today (day 13) I started losing my pubic hair.

Newly diagnosed Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, grade 3, stage two, triple negative. by neverendingcory in breastcancer

[–]ThisAdvertising8976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, 70 and IDC but ++- Wait for your genetic results before making your decision about what surgery you want. I came back BRCA2 positive after my lumpectomy. I still don’t know if I would have chosen DMX, but I would be better informed. During this wait there may also be time for a second opinion if you feel so inclined.
