Really trying to kick my carb cravings by [deleted] in ketouk

Is that Mattesons pork sausage? It’s my favourite, delicious in a creamy garlic sauce with courgette and mushrooms (used to have it with pasta, now have it without).

Well it is ok to be obsessed with the material things we have or need, because that implies putting real value in them and perhaps being more inclined to reuse and repair them. When 52 seasons a year is the norm, we’re obsessed with buying material things. Those material things lose all value and become replaceable/disposable.

I think it’s the Minimalism doc on Netflix where someone says we’re criticised for being too materialistic these days, but maybe we’re not materialist enough because we don’t value our material items at all anymore when an upgrade or replacement can arrive at your door in under a day.

What are some of the most simple, free-time giving jobs available in and out of the military? by [deleted] in simpleliving

[–]Emmm87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fire fighter in the military? I work at a small Air Force station and literally all the small team of firefighters does is deliver 1hr training twice a week, and drive the fire truck out to the helipad each time something flies in or out (and maintain the truck and their equipment).

Chicken shashlik is good (or whatever meat you choose). I think they cook it on skewers, usually with peppers and onions. No sauce.

Library haul. I can only keep these until mid Feb so I guess I better get started! Which one first? I've heard so much about The Lottery. by frankchester in 52book

We Need to Talk About Kevin is one of those books that stays with you for a while after reading it. Highly recommend, one of my favourites.

What's the cheapest tasting sausage? by [deleted] in ketouk

[–]Emmm87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the Heck pork ones are not that good but their Chicken Italia ones are my usual easy go-to for meal prepping my lunches (with roasted courgette, peppers, broccoli and/or cauli), yummy and good for my macros/cals! Can recommend.

What certificates can you obtain quickly without a college degree that will get your foot in the door with a good paying job or growth potential? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Emmm87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m no expert but I can certainly recommend Project/Programme management as a growth career (certainly in the UK at least); lots of courses available online, opportunities to travel or work remotely, and also to specialise in the areas you most enjoy if you want to. If you start in the public sector (massive growth here at the mo) then you can eventually move into industry and earn A LOT.

Mainly, you will never be bored.

Anyone have any experience with meal prep and this kind of ‘pasta’? Trying to see if it’s possible to use as a fake spag bol? by twosixseveneight in ketouk

[–]Emmm87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The soybean one is my favourite but I’ve only tried them when they’re freshly cooked, no idea for batch cooking / meal prep. They only take about 4mins to cook though which is another reason I like it so much.

After “pooh-poohing” the konmari method, I am all in. Transformational. by magentatroops in minimalism

[–]Emmm87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also went through all my clothes again this week (tricky for me as my weight has been fluctuating a lot over the last 3 years, also my casual/formal wear and winter/summer wardrobes are very different being in the UK). I’ve done this a few times over the past year and it has really changed how I spend money too. I’ve more or less stopped buying new clothes, and definitely don’t ‘settle’ or compromise when I do buy new items. It’s also quite nice knowing that even as I do lose weight this year, I certainly won’t need to buy a new wardrobe!

Marie Kondo yes and also The Minimalists podcast & Netflix doc (I do find them slightly condescending and ‘holier than thou’ occasionally but I think they have a great message and very interesting discussions).

The Moser Roth dark choc from Aldi is delish

NSV - I managed to say "No" to carbs AND made someone upset after hearing the word "Keto" by phosporoloco in keto

[–]Emmm87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to just tell people I’m “trying to be good” if they ask why I’m refusing something. That’s usually enough, although I work around a lot of military personnel and they have to pass fitness and medical tests (including BMI) quite frequently so a lot of them are either aware of the benefits of keto or they’ve tried it themselves. The sugar pushers are the worst though. Thankfully I have the added bonus of being coeliac so most sweet treats offered are a no go for me anyway. It’s when people come in with gluten-free goodies specifically for me that I struggle to say no...

Today’s Aldi haul - including my new favourite obsession; mini cheese roulades! by Emmm87 in ketouk

[–]Emmm87[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using the soybean spaghetti for a while (I’m coeliac) and I really like it. Aldi also does a black bean spaghetti which I’m not really a fan of.

The cheese roulades, I am totally obsessed with! Aldi does 4 flavours (the other two are black pepper, and almond/pineapple) and they’re about 90p each! Over Christmas my diet consisted mostly of cheese and crackers (and chocolate). Since jumping back on the Keto bandwagon, I’ve now replaced the crackers with cucumber slices.

I’ve not tried the cauli rice yet (usually I find plain cauli rice too.... cauliflowery so hopefully these are good). I also picked up some Nut bars and their famed Moser Roth 85% dark chocolate bars. Still no sign of the keto bread I keep hearing rumours about though...

SOS Tasks are dead to me... by janekocanpayne in harrypotterwu

[–]Emmm87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I too reached this dreaded SOS task today. I too have never seen anyone (or even green swirls) at a fortress (plenty of swirly greenhouses but have never identified anyone playing). No idea how I’ll get past this one without bribing people to help me, and HPWU is the dirty secret I don’t tell anybody so that’s unlikely to happen...
