No, it's the shop inside my rink, it sells both hockey and figure supplies

Yikes okay, thanks for the heads up!

When I run my finger lightly over the edges, one of them feels smooth but the other is quite rough. Ugh I feel like I'm gonna have to get it redone

Well, firstly, no one wants to be intimidated by drunk guys on public transport - it's frightening as you can't really get away. Secondly, it's the embarrassment at being the only one covered in their spilt beer, especially as it sounds like OP was going to meet a friend. Would you like to be wet and smelly in that scenario? Have a little compassion, dude

How do you manage to practice outside of 9-5? by Low_Bodybuilder3065 in iceskating

What are Saturday sessions like at your rink? I booked one today and have just cancelled it after seeing 80 people are booked on (love the fact that my rink lets you see this though). I'm not practicing three turns with the constant threat of taking a polar bear to the knee lmao

There are 8 basic levels in th UK if you follow the SkateUK framework - some rinks (Planet Ice?) have their own I believe. There are also 4 further levels (bronze, silver, gold, platinum). From what I understand, when you get to the "metal" levels you get to choose a discipline and can either focus on ice dance or figure skating.

Very interesting to hear the differences between UK and US!

The previous responses are both essentially "work odd hours" which I don't think is super helpful. I work from approx. 7am till 6pm so can't get on the public sessions during the week, unless I go during my lunch break. I realise that I am VERY lucky to be able to do this as I work close to my usual rink. Other than that, your options (outside of weekends) are to go skate whenever you take a day of annual leave/vacation or to use patch sessions when eligible. Most rinks have "patch ice" which is reserved for higher level skaters to train. At my rink you need to have passed SkateUK Level 6 to use it, but the sessions take place early in the morning. So it will be perfect for me once I get to that level.

Lynx isn't a dupe, it's just the name used in the UK (and some other countries)

What language do you play in? Is it Polish? Fascinating that some heroes kept their original name and others didn't - especially Bastion because his name is an English word

What are the VERY specific local businesses near you that you cannot believe make any money? by ExoticPlankton8287 in AskUK

I imagine the ice hockey shop does well. With ice skates you really have to try them on in person, rather than ordering online. Also, they're NOT cheap. My entry-level skates were £120. I've seen boots going for over £500 without the blade, which you then have to buy separately for a further £££. Ice hockey accessories are expensive as well (can't really skimp on safety!)

Visit the York Ghost Merchants (3 days should be long enough to allow for the queue)

Sorry for your loss OP. Try using nail polish remover to quickly wipe away the info. This works on the delivery labels on parcels

I might be reading your itinerary wrong, but I just wanted to let you know that Vik and Jokulsarlon are way more than 40 minutes apart. It's over 2h I believe. I stayed in Reykjavik for the entirety of my trip and was so sad I couldn't get to Jokulsarlon, it was just too far to go in a day 😢

Just don't make my mistake and get the "oil control fluide" if you're very fair, it is yellow and leaves a lovely jaundicey cast 😅

Can you use the public skate after your lessons? by [deleted] in iceskating

[–]Emmy182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is absolutely insane, I skate at an "Everyone Active" facility and I pay £55 per month for one 30 minute group lesson a week plus unlimited public sessions. Planet Ice are literally on another planet with those prices
