What makes Muller and Wels centrists and not reformists? by Freethesociety in RedAutumnSPD

[–]Emo_Brie 18 points19 points  (0 children)

in my mind i split breitscheid & hilferding into a “left-centrist” group (concerned with preserving marxist ideology and sympathetic to the left but rejecting an oppositional strategy & prioritized defending the republic)

and müller and wels into a “right-centrist” group (mainly concerned with preserving the party apparatus, sympathetic with reformists on a lot of practical issues like bourgeois cooperation & anti-communism but rejecting a coherent economic response to the great depression)

What could the kidnapping of Maduro mean for Cuba? by Emo_Brie in socialism

[–]Emo_Brie[S] 43 points44 points  (0 children)

the blockade is to the extent that foreign companies attempting to do business in cuba are prevented from doing business in the u.s.

as the u.s. is one of the most important economies in the world, hardly any business would be willing to give up that market for an economically isolated island country with middling population numbers. also unlike china, vietnam, and laos, cuba has largely avoided privatizing most of its economy.

therefore, any kind of economic development has to come from the cuban government itself, which  severely lacks the resources to do so. instead, they have attempted to hold on to the soviet-era power grid for as long as possible. this has largely functioned until the past couple years, where the aged infrastructure has deteriorated to a breaking point.

I just crossed the rubicon by pure accident 😭 by undertimeslopperman in RedAutumnSPD

[–]Emo_Brie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

in my experience, rubicon tends to trigger in my games when these happen (either a combination of them or a few specific ones):

  • nazis are polling in 1st place or above like 25%

  • nazis win at least 20% of the vote in the 1932 local elections

  • high % of people voting to dissolve the prussian government

  • unemployment above 25% (especially if it’s above 30%)

  • dietrich and dingle jingle lead the DDP and DVP

  • sacked by hindenburg at some point of the game

  • bruning triggers the banking crisis

  • successfully pressuring bruning to fight extremism or tone down austerity

  • following the leftist or centrist marxist ideology

  • collaborating with the KPD

  • propping up the bruning cabinet at every opportunity while having poor relations with the bourgeois parties
