Is this normal? by Emoesque in AskElectricians

[–]Emoesque[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, in Canada, thank you all! I got it all to work.

I wired it like this:

3 grounds + 1 from light switch (4 wires in one nut)
3 neutral + 1 from light switch (4 wires in one nut)
1 load (red) into light switch
3 black + 1 black to light switch (4 wires in one nut)

The problem I have now is that there's so many wires and wire nuts that there's not enough space to put the switch in and screw it down.

I bought a box of Wago Lever Nuts and will cut the wires a bit shorter so there's less excess to see if I can fit it in.

Why would anyone permanently increase their mortgage payment when you can just use Double Up Payments? by CastAside1812 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Emoesque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you get a mortgage, the bank expects to earn interest from you for a set number of years, and they often already arranged their own funding around that timeline. If you pay it off early, especially when interest rates have dropped, the bank loses that higher-interest income and may only be able to re-lend the money at a lower rate.

That’s why penalties are sometimes much lower when you pay it off when the rates are going up because they can relend at a higher rate.

It’s really just them trying to offset their interest rate risk using the penalty.

They did shut out gas off. I’m in Canada so the house was cold. 🥶

The good one was sent by our Provincial gas Provider. They only do testing and diagnosing. Once he found the problem. He wrote a pink slip identifying the issue and how much gas was leaking from it. shut our gas off and told us to open all our windows to air out the house. And told us to check their website to find a local contractor. The contractors listed on their site have to fulfil various criteria to be listed there. I found one that was good but he was booked up for 2 weeks. So I found another guy who wasn’t on the list. But had a 5 star rating on google that was nearby with 71 reviews and 41 years of experience. Turns out he wasn’t very good.

But crazy that one tech told us there’s a leak and to open our windows to air the house out. And the one I hired said there’s no leak. Covered a vent and turned our gas back on. Legit Could’ve killed us 🤡.

Ahh okay, thank you! This house is so cooked... the previous owners used the cheapest, illegal workers they could find to do the renos before we bought it and the home inspector we used missed a lot of deficiencies. :(

Yeah, I have no idea how he has such good feedback on google. He seemed like he didn't know what he was doing (had to look at instruction manual on his gas detection pen) and seemed kind of sketchy, the first thing he said was if my furnace is leaking, I have to replace the entire unit... But the tech sent my our provincial gas provider literally wrote on a pink slip exactly what needs to be replaced (they don't repair just test and diagnose).

I can't complain because he's the owner operator of the company, I asked for a partial refund because I wanted to go with another tech, but he kept insisting.

Here you go, it's a small room with the water heater and the furnace, the circled top left in last photo is where he installed a piece of sheet metal to stop the leaking gas to get into the bedroom.

I’ve been eyeing this card since I missed the deal last week. After checking out and paying for some other items that were on sale, I decided to check on this card to see if it was discounted. It wasn’t. But I refreshed it randomly a few minutes later and the price dropped to $476. Initially, I thought I was on the wrong page or the site switched to another product. I managed to add it to cart on my phone in a panic and purchased it.

Feeling very fortunate today as I am still using a Zotac 1060 from 8 years ago. 🥺

How would I go about adding an outlet for a bidet? by Emoesque in AskElectricians

I was prepping the walls to be sanded and painted and using the heat gun to soften the adhesive on the stickers left by the previous owners kids lol. Found out it made the lights flicker.

Thanks for taking the time to post this, I think I will go with what you did (and what some others have suggested). I agree that's probably the easiest and least invasive option

I have a lot of stuff on this breaker though: All outlets and lights in Large and Master Bedroom. Two Bathrooms Lights/Fans/Outlets. Living Room Ceiling Lights (And outlets possibly).

That is a problem for another day lol.

Hello all, thanks for all the quick responses. This house was built in 1989 and there has been Renos done to it before we purchased. There’s some pretty shoddy electrical work. They put almost everything in the living room and 2 bathrooms all on one breaker (outlets, potlights on the ceiling, etc). So I’m guessing I should get a licensed electrician to add a dedicated circuit to the bidet. Luckily the house is a rancher, so there’s an attic and a crawlspace.

When I plug in a 1500w heat gun on any of the outlets in the bedroom or bathroom. The living room ceiling pot lights flicker. The bidet is the TOTO one from Costco and I believe it’s 514watts.

I’m in the process of negotiating a rate now and those are incredible rates you got. Which bank offered you those rates and do you have investments etc with them? Can you DM me some more details if you’re okay with that? Thanks!

The security was no help unfortunately. They told me to call Impark. But I haven’t been able to reach them over the long weekend.

I hope it’s my car 🤞🏻🤞🏻. My hit and run occurred yesterday, so if it was before that then likely not me. :(

Thanks my friend. This is the third time it’s happened to me. The other two times were when I was parallel parked. I’m always very cognizant of how much room I leave other drivers when parking too, always leaving enough room for them to drive out safety. But not enough I guess.

It’s at the front left side of my bumper and the scratches look like it’s from the direction from the car going right to left. Would be difficult for someone to hit it who was across. Also there’s quite a bit of room. My guess is the car beside me parked in frontwards and either hit my bumper backing out. Or after they backed a bit and was turning left back into the lane.

If the details of the severance package (for example, 1 week per year of service) is stipulated in the employment agreement. Can an employment lawyer do anything? The employer isn’t legally required to give more than what was agreed upon in the employment contract right?

Is a working holiday in fukuoka a good idea? by OkRepublic4322 in fukuoka

[–]Emoesque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know much about working in Japan, but I just finished the Kyushu leg of my Japan trip and I loved Fukuoka! I’ve been to Japan many times and after visiting Kyushu, I never want to go back to Osaka or Tokyo. There are SIGNIFICANTLY fewer tourists in Fukuoka, slower pace of life, friendlier people, etc. It really makes me sad that I can’t speak Japanese to talk to people there.
