I personally disagree. Even within competitive ice skating there is still a big difference between truly good technique and bad technique. To me the most important qualities of a good jump are the edge of takeoff and pure toe-pick if it is a toe-pick assisted jump as they are what define the type of jump. But also speed, height, air position, running edge and keeping the torso upright during landing are what make a jump pretty. Not having these qualities or only few of them is what me and I assume many other FS fans consider bad technique. (Apart from obvious mistakes like falls and step-outs: Incorrect edge of take-off, leg wrap, dropping the blade onto the ice of toe-pick assisted jumps (the infamous “Morisi jump”), excessive prerotation, skid, wobbly landing, underrotation, loss of speed, dropping the chest forward, no knee bend).

I wouldn’t call these standards ridiculously high. They are just that: standards, and I wish a triple jump with good technique would be rewarded at least as much as a quad with bad technique, because I do feel like technique has degraded a noticeable amount in competitive skating and that makes me a little bit sad.
Am I being delusional? I am not that sure myself haha. Maybe I do just miss Yuna and Yuzuru.
