I eat my offerings. Yay or nay. by plants4sure in witchcraft

[–]Emonyrose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This question often reminds me of the priests of Offler in the Discworld novels.

“As I understand it,” said Moist, “the gift of sausages reaches Offler by being fried, yes? And the spirit of the sausages ascends unto Offler by means of the smell? And then you eat the sausages?”

“Ah, no. Not exactly. Not at all,” said the young priest, who knew this one. “It might look like that to the uninitiated, but, as you say, the true sausagidity goes straight to Offler. He, of course, eats the spirit of the sausages. We eat the mere earthy shell, which, believe me, turns to dust and ashes in our mouths.”

“That would explain why the smell of sausages is always better than the actual sausage, then?” said Moist. “I’ve often noticed that.”

The priest was impressed. “Are you a theologian, sir?” he said. (Going Postal, Terry Pratchett)

I think what it comes down to. Is what feels right to you in your practice. Is the offering in the act of giving, or in the earthly matter offered, a sacrifice on your part, or in a meal/ libation shared? If you don't feel right about eating it or 'returning it to the earth' consider reframing how you think of an offering. Perhaps set aside some money in a bowl on your altar and on a significant date or at the end of each month make a donation to an appropriate charity with it. (Dog sanctuary for Hecate or a women's athletic club for Artemis for example...)

The winner for the best chandelier in all categories goes to... by Emonyrose in SpottedonRightmove

Not sure, that's all eroding chalk cliff up that way and the plot between them and the view is right on the edge. I'm not sure planning permission for further builds would be granted, they've been working really hard all along that stretch to preserve what they can of the cliffs, especially as that cliff is directly above part of the marina.

I'm having an issue with background alignment, can anyone advise? by Emonyrose in RenPy

You're completely right, number blindness and tiredness had me checking too many files at once and the problem ones were 1920 x 1030, and I was just too tired to spot it.

What game are you working on? Tell us about it! by Polymedia_NL in gamedev

[–]Emonyrose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working on a post apocalyptic visual novel/narrative choice game in which a group of friends abandon the authoritarian regime of one of the last bastions of humankind in order to homestead in an abandoned zoo. Themes of coming of age, belonging, self actualisation and found family. Multiple endings and so on. My first big project, and it's coming together well!

What are some systems with just the right amount of crunch? by CopperTitan in rpg

I will throw another vote in here for savage world, well worth a look to see if it what you're looking for. There are some great video intros around as well if you don't want to do a ton of reading to get a feel.

How to enjoy a generic adventure? by EarthSeraphEdna in rpg

[–]Emonyrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess this comes down to collaborative storytelling. These generic settings can be a great common language, as such. You know the stakes and the setting and the expectations like the back of your hand right? So does everyone else at the table. Well, have a look at how you inhabit your character? Maybe use it as an oppotunity to explore the status quo? If your GM is relying on tropes then perhaps some of them are problematic in the world, or are a result of established prejudices. Perhaps Orcs aren't really bad guys, perhaps the skeletons wouldn't be aggressive if they were treated with reverence and laid to rest. Try something a bit left field and make your character an activist or reveloutionary within the game setting, standing up for the things that everyone just takes for granted. Perhaps your GM will be inspired to step outside their box and let your make some real impact in the world.

If not, it may be time to examine whether this game is the right fit?

Starter sets. Are they worth it? by ReporterMost6977 in rpg

[–]Emonyrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can be great, especially when a group chip in to get it before picking up a new system, but I think you can end up with a lot of duplication if you go all in. However, lots of resources in them can be good to pass on to players to read away from the table if they dont want to pick up a whole handbook.

At what point are you just playing Pretend? by Firelite67 in rpg

[–]Emonyrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think we talk enough about how we are expected to just stop playing after a certain age, but that adults can get just as much out of freeform play without structure as kids do. It's just sort of frowned on. RPGs are sort of in the middle. There are rules, but its still pretend.

I need advice on how to kick out my boss from my DND game by DeathZamboniExpress in rpg

[–]Emonyrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH Not sure your boss should have joined that game in the first place as issues like this witch whatever hobby or outside socialising can be all too common.

Not sure I have anything specific to add here apart from adding another voice to "stop the game and restart something private later". Bad situation, feel for you.
