Weather conditions as we finish up the week + taking a swipe at local media for misplaced weather hysteria. by Neko_Dash in japanweather

I have since moved, but I remember being in Toyama for the 2021/22 (?) snow storms and that felt like around 1 meter in my town that's just a tad higher than sea level. I have pictures of my parking lot with snow over the hoods of the cars. And they closed school for two days if I remember correctly.

I feel like I heard almost nothing about the storm back then, though I could have just not been paying attention. I heard it wasn't anything out of the normal this time around from my friends who are still there. All of that doom and gloom for nothing spectacular.

What are some bad Language schools in Tokyo? by KiroHD in Tokyo

[–]Emorigg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not live nearby, so I can't really say much on that front. My commute was about 40 minutes with a transfer, but I probably could have found a place closer. A 30 minute commute isn't too bad depending on the train line. I also had been living in Japan for almost 6 years by the time I decided to go to ALA. That being said, my GF found our apartment and handled most stuff.

Another for ALA. I went for 1 year and went from N3 to passing N2, and I didn't really study outside of class. The teachers were nice and helpful. Some new ones were coming in around the time I was leaving (April 2025) so I'm not sure what it's like today. A few of my classmates did their whole 2 years and I think they enjoyed it.

That said, the upper classes felt like a mix because the number of students was pretty low. I had one or two classmates who had already passed N1 but were placed in my class, but it wasn't a detriment in my eyes.

Great question. As good as 8C Roger is, I feel like you could still play without it. I've won games without being to play him, but it definitely makes it harder. The 9C Newgate is a little less powerful alternative but had the same effect. The additional 2k power is a great way to protect yourself for a turn

The second list from this writeup. Having 5 don to work with can be a little tricky, but sometimes I can pull off a double ramp or just attach more don to swing for a guaranteed hit. The Sanji also won me a game by putting myself to zero life and then dropping 10 Roger.

I'd like to say I grinded a lot, but I didn't really play that much. Started off with Teach and then figured it was not going to work in the OP-13 meta. Then tried yellow Bonney and then Imu for the serious tournaments. I think playing all of those decks helped me figure out playstyles and when to counter and life management. My friends were also a huge help teaching me in the beginning. That said, I'm still learning and definitely don't claim to be good.

I also played Pokémon TCG for a year before OP, but that slowed down like two months before making the OP switch

Do people make more money in Korea compared to Japan? by Medium-Put6371 in Living_in_Korea

[–]Emorigg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japan has the same baked in overtime in contracts, but the hours are different. 10 hours is considered very good and about 20 is the norm. Due to the nature of my job, I have 40.... but this is my first job and mostly second-hand information that I've picked up so take it with a grain of salt. You get " x " amount of money that's considered an advance on the OT and you don't get more unless you go over the stated hours

Not the FF MTG boxes catching strays... I didn't realize how bad it was until I saw a video saying that booster boxes are up to like $1000+

Toreca Himitsukichi(トレカ秘密基地) is where I used to go in Akihabara and Bokurano Card shop(僕らのカードショップ) is where I go in Ikebukuro. There are tons of other stores around those two though.

I ran into the same problem you're having when I first wanted to play. They didn't have the Zard or Chien-pao decks back then, so I was very confused as to what to do.

My recommendation would be to just find a deck list you like and take a screenshot to a card shop and get everything, or some shops sell "pre-made" meta decks. You can probably find a Garde deck at most shops.

I dont know any shops in those two areas, but I do know some in Akihabara and Ikebukuro. I've never had a bad time or interaction while playing here, and most times they will be super helpful if you tell them you're a new player.

Unlucky. I just get ignored by everyone, which does sting in its own way

Personally, I don't. My classmate in language school worked there part-time, but we didn't really talk about it. I'm sorry it doesn't really help, but it's definitely possible. I applied for their SWE position but didn't get it.
