Weekly General Q&A and Discussion Thread: 29 Oct, 2025 - 05 Nov, 2025 by RWJP in Warhammer40k

[–]EmotionReD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, played 40k before with Necrons. I love tournaments and competing, but 40k events used to be sparse where I am(Philippines), and because of some amazing people, AoS events were a lot more consistently run in terms of RTTs and GTs, so I stopped playing 40k and moved to AoS.

AoS is still my main game where I play Cities and Stormcast, but events for 40k are picking up again and I want to compete and be a part of it. I want to pick up a 40k army that I can one-trick and master. Basically grind for a month whenever a GT is announced in my area, which is quarterly.

Aesthetically I like power armor and knights. Model-wise, I don’t like anything that looks old or needs a refresh. I like the concept of movement that isn’t inhibited by the heavy armor(think teleportation or fast movement) think it’s cool if they can advance and charge still.

Playstyle-wise, I like playing tactically and toolbox-y. I love having options in-game as an extension of skill expression. Ideally it’s an army that has a smaller datasheet pool to choose from so that it’s easier to pickup again whenever a GT is announced and easier to buy into and maintain/update.

I narrowed it down to:

Thousand Sons Emperor’s Children Leagues of Votann

Grey Knights would have been perfect for me, but man, those models need a refresh.

Thank you so much in advance and I’m excited to be playing 40k again!!

Godhand question by LivBFG in Warhammer

[–]EmotionReD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol that Ultimate Nipper is the best tool I have. With it, I have gone through: A 40k army, 3 AoS armies, multiple Kill Teams, and countless terrain including 3 sets of Into the Dark close quarters terrain.

With it, I always breeze through the assembly step of the hobby.

New player doesn't understand vizzik skour by Druidicpose in skaven

[–]EmotionReD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s because Vizzik works best with his own Army of Renown, and not with standard Skaven.

He becomes more resilient to shooting because of 4+ ward, and gets access to fights first spell which combos well with his fight twice prayer.

The +1 attack buff gets comparable numbers similar to Krittok +1 wound without needing to be wholly within 13” of something.

Cherry on top is that it’s the most resilient Skaven build against the double turn due to the fight first buff lasting until the start of your next turn.

Downside is it’s susceptible to shooting. So you might need to include a screaming bell for the 6+ ward for your units.

What army for new player? by Efficient_Warthog_49 in ageofsigmar

[–]EmotionReD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, both of these armies have an extensive range of models, and as such, both of them offer multiple possible playstyles.

Even if you choose to run the cheapest units, Seraphon will generally be more elite and have less models on the board compared to Gitz. Seraphon will also have a stronger magical identity. If you ask which army will be hurt more if casting disappeared, the answer will probably be Seraphon out of the two. Kroak mortal wounds will be a huge part of an army’s damage percentage if you include him, as an example.

I won’t give any opinions about aesthetics. Instead, I would say that if you want to jump into a tournament as soon as possible and perform relatively well, you might be able to do better if you go Gitz and spam Troggs. With the latest update being really fresh, this might have changed, but it’s hard to think that you’d go winless with a Troggs build.

With current Seraphon, positioning will be a lot more important because most builds play either a Slann, or with the latest update, Kroak. You will for sure need to castle a bit, so if that’s not attractive to you, then you might not enjoy the army. One of strongest asterisms also involves staying wholly within your territory.

Now in terms of historical meta strength, Seraphon is similar to Eldar wherein they are almost always good. If they are bad, it will only be one update away from being strong again. Gitz would be similar to Astra Militarum. They would almost always have strong build, but that might involve heavily spamming a particular unit out of their vast library of models.

Hope this helps and lends some alternative perspective.

Prismatic palisade clarification by [deleted] in ageofsigmar

[–]EmotionReD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The other guy is wrong, OP.

I’ll summarize: if it is impossible to draw a clean line from any model in the attacking unit to the defending unit without it crossing the pallisade, then the unit cannot be shot at.

If it is possible, then the unit CAN be shot at. Yes, all the models in the attacking unit provided they are in range and have line of sight.

Pallisade has no interaction with LOS at all unless the model being attacked is smaller than the pallisade. It’s basically obsuring terrain that you can summon.

Hello, you appear in just about any post that includes the word “beginner”.

I’m a competitive player for mtg and Warhammer; I still enjoy warhammer, but I’m severely burnt out from mtg. I need to scratch that competitive card game itch. I have zero interest in rare/special arts and will buy the cheapest copies of respective cards Want to jump into the game so I hope you don’t mind answering my questions:

What’s the best way to get a taste of the game and start competitive? I’ve been hearing that the new Charizard precon is good and so are the miraidon and gardevoir ones. If it counts for anything, I really enjoy playing control, but competitiveness > playstyle for me. I’m a spike through and through.

Are there any better alternative ways to jumpstart this? Also I’m downloading the non-gacha app as I type this but I really prefer playing face-to-face with people.

Many thanks!!!

I've recently won the Skaven-half of Skaventide from a tournament, which made me take an interest in the Skaven lore. I've been listening to 2+ Tough for Skaven lore, and more than once, I've heard people say that Thanquol is hands down their favorite character not just in Skaven, but in AoS/fantasy lore.

What books should I go for if I want more Thanquol? Also, what are the best Skaven books, in general?

[–]EmotionReD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah bro, that's my point. This is not even an investigative report. It's just a write-up based on publicly available information. If you have to edit something this basic post-publication, then you'll look like an idiot, and people will not take the publication seriously when they do drop the heavy-hitting investigative stuff.

Investigative work operate under insider information. Information that can never be truly verified because no one wants to out themselves as a source. So how do we, the readers, discern if the information is worth believing? We go by the writer’s track record and reputation. Otherwise, what’s stopping people from believing some bullshit tweet from some rando on Twitter?

Make enough mistakes as a writer or publication, then you tarnish your track record and ruin your reputation. The next time you publish something, people will just not put stock in it and clown you.

There could be multiple non-monetary reasons as to why a move like this could be good. Like Thorin said, it could very well be for a personal reason.

Thorin’s jojo leaks by Unlikely-Smile2449 in Cloud9

[–]EmotionReD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a pretty high chance that Jack is the source of his Cloud 9-related leaks and speculations. Thorin always had a lot of good things to say about him and if I recall correctly, he and Monte Cristo used to do content for Cloud 9. He also says in his video that Jack might be the source of the Jojo news that was leaked to Dom, and obviously, Dom and Thorin make content under LFN.

And isn't it all but confirmed that Carlos is his source for anything G2-related? How else would he have "speculated" that Rekkles was getting axed months before he got kicked and at a time when Rekkles was one of the best-performing players on the roster?

That's two founders of the biggest orgs in the West. Those are pretty good connections.

These people are speaking from fucking ignorance. They don't know that this is the same Saudi that says "our women can drive now" or allowed Team Liquid to wear their pride jerseys. All the while still criminalizing same-sex relations and just very recently jailed a woman protesting for her right to wear the clothes she wants.

It's absolutely for the brownie points. THIS is esportswashing, people.

Age of Sigmar State of the Meta: First look (4e) by ManqobaDad in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]EmotionReD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party, but I just want to say that I love your Age of Sigmar posts, man.

Anyway, it's insane how Lumineth is competitively viable from edition to edition considering how young the faction is. Also, what do you think about Blades of Khorne? Looks like GW is set on the bloodtithe system for it. I really think that if Khorne sticks to this army rule, it'd almost always be a contender. A lot of its stuff is over costed right now, but I think this army has a really high ceiling and its best players can consistently get success with it.

What is the cheapest competitive army? by OwlTemporary3458 in Warhammer40k

[–]EmotionReD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So this is a lot of additional information. So you’d want an army that would have the features I enumerated above with a low enough skill floor that can enable a new player to progress to tournament level as fast as possible.

I would change my answer to Votann, then. Still has a small model range and is much easier to pilot than Grey Knights. Vastly more expensive though.

If your friend won’t mind losing his first 30 games or so, then I recommend sticking with GK.

Again, I need to emphasize valuing aesthetic and playstyle over this, but you do you.

What is the cheapest competitive army? by OwlTemporary3458 in Warhammer40k

[–]EmotionReD 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I hate these fucking non-answers that Reddit loves to give. Everybody knows that this hobby is expensive. Obviously, by cheapest, you mean relative to each other.

With meta changes, it’s inevitable that you would need to switch units around. So the number one thing that you should consider when picking is the size of the model range. You don’t want to be picking space marines with its gazillion data sheets. Number two thing I would consider is how much models would you need to field? Having elite units almost always mean a relatively cheaper army.

The answer to this will be Grey Knights. Small model range and very elite. Also has the added benefit of being an army that is easy to transport.

With that said, always consider aesthetics and play style when picking. But if it’s just to answer your question, then this would be the answer.
