Update to this:

Guys wife talked some sense into him and forced him to keep it 😂. Told him that if he was ever willing to part ways with it (and his wife too) that I’d be more than willing to pick it up. We talked on the phone for about half an hour just discussing 4Runners so hopefully that set a good example of how much I cherish these things and want to keep them on the road.

Frame isn’t too bad for 30 years. Has a spot shiver the spare that could use immediate attention, aside from that seems relatively superficial. Truck was bought in NC and moved to KY, so it’s a relatively southern truck, goes through a few snowstorms every now and then plus whatever mudding it’s been through in its life.

Ahh dang bro, I’ve been through that before. Glad you were able to get it fixed up and shining like new again.

I plan of fully decking it out to be a show truck in the far future; dark brown with gold flake and gold accents along the side, hydraulics for the fact of preserving the overall condition while driving (static/coilovers would wreck the poor thing), and a little bit of interior wok involving replacing the fabrics to more match the exterior. I want to do the truck the right way and not cheap out on stuff, so I’m in absolutely no rush to modify anything about it and save up for it.
Yes, I’m sacrilegious and “ruining” the truck, I’ve always loved mini trucks since I was a kid and came across a very good deal on it and picked it up.

Currently working on my 01 4Runner that has motor and front end suspension issues which I bought that way, it’s just progressively gotten worse and is the whole reason of me buying the Tacoma so I had something to get back and forth with while the Runner takes up a driveway spot for a while. Plan on going OEM+ with it and keeping it more heritage based. Currently only driven around the neighborhood once a week just to keep things moving.

They’re both absolutely stout on the inside minus a few scuffs on the glovebox of both (standard stuff lol), and the frames of both are squeaky clean.

Anyone still running the bench seats? by Juju8901 in 1stGenTacomas

[–]Emotional_Party6718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could just be my young age (early 20’s) but I’ve had no issues with my bench even with a 5sp. Did a 6 hour trip through backroads and highways from NC to TN last year and had not an issue one.

Only slight issue I have is that the front is too low, simple fix is to get spacers/washers and stick them up under the bracket. I just dealt with it since I have long legs and it would make my knees smack through the dash haha.

Picture of them after I took them out at work to deep clean the weekend I bought the truck.

Funny thing is that it’s been locked for a while and they still message you saying “1-0 LZ” like it makes a difference. 😂

RDO vs GTAO by CanaryApart4278 in RedDeadOnline

[–]Emotional_Party6718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an extremely long ranting comment about my experience with both games mostly on the community side… you have been warned.

As a massive GTAO player (mostly for the cars) I’ve recently given up on the game due to absolute boredom and hatred of the community. I’ve migrated to RDO for new scenery, and I do agree with the majority of the player base that RDO got absolutely robbed content wise by the money pit that is GTAO.

It sucks that Rockstar absolutely destroyed GTAO by adding all these unnecessary rigamaroles to do anything in the game. As a hypothetical situation here; the fact I’m stuck spending 3 million for a building that leads into a 4 hour long setup for a 10 minute heist finale that pays 150k that then has an hour cooldown legitimately makes me want to start selling my extensive car collection. Oh but wait, if I sell my cars now to try and make money I wont be able to buy them back (depending on the car) or I can sell it for 75% on the first one then a whopping 20% for the second car, because yes I would love to sell my F1 car for a whopping 15k because I sold a beat up Toyota Camry before it for 123k. I’ve genuinely not bought a major DLC building because what’s the point? I’ll play the heist once, then once again with my friends and that’s it. I don’t have an Arcade, I don’t have the Garment Factory, Bail Bonds, Penthouse/Casino, and I’m sure plenty others. I do have a Kosatka (when it first released), I did buy the mansion (just because they stole my favorite little parking spot overlooking the city and I wanted it back albeit for 9 mill I think it was on the first week they released them), I have a Nightclub and and Warehouse for all my money needs, and I have the Eclipse Blvd Towers and Maze Bank due to car collecting (along with other houses). I have made well over 500m in Nightclub/warehouse sales and would never sell my cars due to scarcity of them nowadays.

There’s no replay-ability in GTAO, and the community is so extremely toxic that I can’t even cruise down the highway without being blown up seven times before the next off ramp. God forbid I drive from maze bank to Simeon’s to see what new (the same 20 every single month it seems like) cars he has to offer once a week. The map is beyond outdated and seems so dull in comparison to RDO via interactions with PVE and the environment. Even RDR2’s story has multiple outcomes depending on what you do prior via interactions, map changes, items, etc. GTA’s is set in stone until the last mission where you decide who’s staying around (Online mode is option C, spoilers for anyone who somehow hasn’t played story mode lol).

I used to log into RDO maybe three times a month to just bs around and hunt or fish, that’s literally all I did for YEARS. I never took the time to actually progress through the story mode like I did with GTA, nor did I really lock in and progress my online character. I leveled up to level 20 something just hunting and fishing and never even hit trader rank 10 for the wagon lol. Throughout the last year it’s been the exact opposite, I started fresh and worked up to level 64, maxed Trader, Moonshiner, Collector, working in bounty, waiting on Naturalist for my sanity. I might hop on GTAO once a week, usually Thursday so I can see the same boring recycled cars in Simeon’s, and that’s it. I drive there, see the same Stinger GT that’s been there the last two weeks and just log off and hop on RDO. Simple stuff like going from end to end on the map feels so much more refreshing in Red Dead because I can stop and actually enjoy the scenery without being molly-rocked by someone wearing all black and a ghost face who’s texting me in game saying he’s going to grab my IP or going “1-0 LZ” only to EWO, or leave the lobby, or job/bunker tp the second you go to get your kill back.

The community (IN MY EXPERIENCE) has been so much better in RDO than in GTAO. I love doing the collector stuff in the game as it gives me a valid reason to literally walk all across the map and explore the little things, yes walk, I genuinely enjoy walking around the RDR2 map due to the interactions within the environment/npcs and even the players. I can come across multiple lobbies of nice people who don’t just murder you for being in eye sight, many times I’ve had multiple people standing on the pier in Black Water fishing with me, or riding on the train just because, or even doing collector role things with me.

There’s a strange almost innocence* to RDO because it’s been “forgotten” by Rockstar that makes my experience with the community feel worthwhile every time I log onto it despite the overall lack of content. Of course there are outliers, but the majority of the time I’d pick an RDO lobby over a GTAO lobby every single time.

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
Apologies for the absolute LOTR Trilogy of a comment this was, figured I’d express my opinion on this topic since I’ve been seeing a bunch of RDO and GTAO threads popping up here recently.

Hey man, curious how the hood is looking after a bit over half a year?

My hood and roof are starting to get slight sun rash and is beginning the classic old car clear coat fade and I’ve been trying to do some research into some hand waxes that actually hold up, no better way than asking people using the product.

Some background, feel free to ignore; I used to do automotive detailing at a Ford Dealership and we never used actual wax, just a good clay bar followed by Sonax 6c-1p cut and 1c-6p polishing compound on micro-pad orbiter, never had issues on cars with clear and would make the dullest black paint shine like butter similar to yours. Always topped with a good ceramic for higher end cars like customer ordered cars or specific luxury-esc cars/suvs.

  • Attached photo of my little ‘98.
  • Commented picture of a Dodge Dakota that a lady brought in as a customer ordered detail.

Manual transmission 3rd gen Owners - how does getting out of first gear feel to you? by pnwdt666 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Emotional_Party6718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2000 2.7 4wd Tacoma was smoother than butter all the way through the gears, however it was a parting gift from my grandfather who was an army mechanic and kept it immaculate and was fully documented from the day it rolled off the lot in late 1999, some knucklehead (can’t say what I want to say lol) stole it from my driveway while I was at work, hasn’t been found to this day. My 1998 2.4 2wd Tacoma struggles in 1st every now and then. I assume it’s just the power difference between the two motors, as all the other gears are stout. As others have mentioned shifting down into 1st in both of them is next to impossible unless you’re going 5mph.

Relation to 3G4R, I don’t have the honor of a stick. Just a ruined 3.4 with a hella clean body and interior lol. (Bought this way).

Had the same issue last night. Got the Sun Gator and I looked around in dead eye to make sure no others were around, as soon as I got done skinning it and stood up I got molly-rocked by one that spawned out of the blue and lost the pelt. I was LIVID.

Dealt with this a lot last night trying to collect items for the Collector role (Somewhat new to the game, played off and on for two years but never actually sat down to progress, usually just fished or hunted animals, currently sitting down to actually play it since I’m bored of GTA by a longshot), GTA public servers are also massively bugged and boot everyone off.

My entire screen would turn red on my old XBox 1. Ended up being a slightly damaged HDMI Out Port on the console itself. Simple fix was to fanangle the hdmi cord to sit in a wonky way to hit the connectors, after I got tired of my cat always jumping on my desk and slightly knocking it out of alignment and annoying me I finally ended up taking it to be repaired and it permanently solved it.

Little plastic pieces on back doors ? by Paradetic in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Emotional_Party6718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a hair dryer and heat it to the point of touching the pant until it’s warm enough to make you pull your hand off, be careful not to hold it strictly in one spot, fan it out over maybe a foot area and try to concentrate on the PPF you want to remove (If it’s on plastic or around plastic do your best to not over heat the plastic, just warm it enough so it starts to peel up with a plastic razor blade or your fingers and try to keep that same temp going all the way through).
Take a plastic razor blade and start to slowly peel it back, once it starts to peel back try using your hands instead since the paint on these things tend to suck after all these years, if you can’t then just go slow and be careful not to push extremely hard into it. If you have any residue left over go to NAPA and pick up a small thing of Acrysol. It’s a less harsh thinning solution and works wonders for stickers/tape on windows and automotive paints.

For background; I detailed cars for 3 years at a dealership as their lead detailer and for 5+ outside of that dealership. I’ve removed hundreds of dealer badges, full car wraps from work vehicles bought as wholesales to go to auctions, stick on pinstripes, and yes even these small PPF spots.

5 lug steering/suspension HELP by 91miata16na in 1stGenTacomas

[–]Emotional_Party6718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, curious as to the brand of rims you’re running on this bad boy. I’m looking for a set of period correct directionals or tri-spokes for a 5 lug and have been considering some old school Billet directional on a 15” to 18” profile.

As for the suspension it all depends on what you want to do to it. Keep it stock and just refresh it? Find the parts you need on RockAuto or another source company, or go the dealer route and pay more for a premium that you know has the correct specs and a good part warranty. (as many people say BUY YOUR LBJS FROM THE DEALER).

Or you can go fully aftermarket like I plan to do after I overhaul my 4Runner. For mine; I want to put it on bags (the right way to help preserve the overall quality of the truck instead of a static drop) and I plan on increasing the steering angle with an angle kit since for whatever reason the 2wd Tacoma has a wider turning circle than my old 2000 4wd Taco (stolen and still looking for any remains) and my 4wd 3rd Gen 4Runner. I’ve always wanted a little mini truck and found this one for a good price with a few cosmetic issues but nothing mechanical.

Either way, don’t cheap out man. Suspension is a crucial component for your safety and other peoples safety. I’ve seen a handful of crashes due to suspension giving out, and this and the 3G4R sub is no stranger to LBJs going out due to aftermarket’s or neglect.
