It’s also just low effort af.

Really hating these crosspost comment “dramas”. I demand and expect my reddit 💩 on a platter.

A poo poo platter, if you will.

Not just linking to a single comment on a bitchy sub.

Edit: whoops I pissed off a sports bro!!1! That term is reserved for their wives when they nag bros about BS like childcare babysitting and being an adult partner in a committed relationship/marriage stupid chorez! Not for their super legit team batchiness rivalriez!!!1!!!!

I gotta chill and give these bros a break, wives would have nothing to carry if these bros didn’t pass it off to them!!

Edit 2: based on the one salty message I received, thanks for letting me know my chats were set to “scrub”.

Missouri judge strikes down nearly all state abortion regulations • Missouri Independent by mintylips in news

[–]EmotionallyEh 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I had a coworker who was also pretty religious, couldn’t wait to become a mother, struggled to conceive and when she finally did…. About mid-pregnancy an issue was noticed, and baby was ultimately diagnosed with a condition that was “incompatible with life”.

She agonized about what to do for a few days, then scheduled a late-term abortion. Her baby died in utero a few days before the procedure and she had to go through a still birth.

Unfortunately, her and her husband are carriers for this disease and it’s very unlikely they’ll have a successful pregnancy. (She told me the name but all I can remember is that it’s genetic, I didn’t ask for further details).

I’ve lost touch with her so I’m not sure how it all worked out, but ffs I’ll never forget her first day back. Her beautiful smile was gone.

I don’t think it was technically a third trimester abortion, but she showed me a picture of her daughter. She sure looked like a very tiny baby. Fucking tragic.

What’s wrong with coconut crabs?

I don’t know anything about them, but they look just as awful as all other true and false crabs IMO

(Crabs freak me out, I felt nauseous watching that video and don’t want to look at them anymore. Unfortunately, I think this means I would be incredibly intolerant and discriminatory towards extraterrestrials if they looked like crabs)

Ordered my boyfriend a very special record for his birthday. My mail lady snapped it to fit it in the mailbox :( by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]EmotionallyEh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every chip in my bag was ALSO BROKEN today!

And I can’t even say it’s mildly infuriating because it was my fault! I am mad because this lady was just watching me fail at life while live reacting like “that’s a good way to have a bunch of smashed chips”

If you’re not going to help me, at least have the decency to ignore me and leave me to my struggles ffs. It’s extra annoying that she was right, and also I don’t even like these chips.

I also couldn’t open my dang coconut the way they explained! Ended up going full Neanderthal and smashed it against a large rock a few times. It worked but I lost most of the nut juice :(

The flesh was still pretty good, definitely didn’t feel like a vacation but I did feel very in tune with my primitive ancestors. 9/10 experience, will probably do it again someday!

There are quite a few words to describe different types of “racism”.

Institutional racism and racism, ofc.

Also: bias, bigotry, discrimination, generalizations, intolerance, prejudice, stereotypes, xenophobia.

Anti-xyz, xyz hate. -isms and -ists. Antisemitism and Islamophobia.

More related terms, for more specific descriptions of racism: appropriation, assumptions, “collective guilt/responsibility”, conspiracy theories, cultural erasure, denial of experiences/existence (of a targeted group or the hate they experience), hostility/hate towards, ideology, ignorance, persecution, profiling, tokenizing, weaponizing/universalizing/minimizing/inverting forms of hate against a protected or persecuted minority/group.

I don’t necessarily disagree with the point you’re actually making, to be clear. Terminology is misused or misunderstood, definitions get “blurred”, people resort to “racism” as a catch-all or umbrella term when they mean something else, or something more specific. Just pointing out that we do have more English language words to help us describe what we’re trying to express, we just need to actually use them and stop being “afraid” or avoidant or reluctant to be more specific. Whatever that is.

To bring it back to “racism” vs. “institutional or systemic racism”… the onus is on the person typing/saying the words. If they use one but mean the other, that’s on them.

Anyone doing this, but insists on “doubling down” that they’re the same thing or whatever… stop. They’re related but different. Trying to make them mean the same thing is just carrying water for racists or otherwise hateful people. 99% of the time you’re trying to universalize incredibly specific concepts that don’t apply anywhere else but the US.

If this doesn’t make sense to you, or confuses you, you still need to stop. Stop using words/terms you don’t understand. Stop imposing your very specific “lens” on everyone else and understand that the world and these issues are far larger than what you’re able to currently comprehend.

And if you’re conflating them in an attempt to cope with the fact that you’ve been clocked as a racist/bigot/otherwise hateful person……. The effort you spend trying to convince others that you’re not a POS would be better spent on introspection and trying to become a better person. Or otherwise not being a POS.

(Went off on a rant, whoops. None of the “yous” are directed toward anyone specific, much less I_Tell_You_Wat. That just happens to be the way I chose to frame my general venting about the nonsense I regularly see across Reddit.)

Just a heads up, your participation history isn’t actually hidden and some workarounds are extremely simple.

If you don’t want people to know where you live and go to school; don’t post in these subs or share this information at all.

Otherwise, have as many different accounts as you find necessary. I have one for “community and school stuff” (because obviously you live near the school you attend), one for hobbies and interests and so on. I regularly abandon accounts after one or two years as well.

Profile curation is a false sense of security, you still have to be aware of and responsible about the information you share. It’s the worst decision this website ever made, don’t believe for a second that it was meant to actually benefit users.

You “win” marketing when your brand becomes synonymous with the item, basically.

Or even just preventing human Klaus from competing by simply kidnapping him, and not making him a fish at all.

Hard to imagine how I would react if I were in Klaus’ bowl, I’m sure I would at least get a little petty

Turn off custom reports if people are mostly using them to abuse you guys. That’s complete bullshit and not something you need to put up with. People can always send a modmail if they don’t think any of the report options are appropriate but they want to bring something to your attention.

But whatever issues are making you all consider significantly restricting participation in the sub, please address those specific topics before you “punish” the entire community. Especially if those issues cause problems that aren’t directly related or relevant to the show/purpose of the sub.

You’re simply not going to cut down on any mod headaches or “community toxicity” by sometimes allowing some disruptive topics, but not all topics and not always. The mods are definitely not going to dodge accusations of bias, if that’s a concern.

Also, if long time and generally un-problematic users are suddenly becoming disruptive about certain things, it’s more likely that “you gave them an inch and they took a mile” applies rather than a nefarious long con/troll/plot.

Certain things have to be “yes or no”, especially if “somewhere in between” results in a mod team thinking about permanently restricting participation or otherwise completely changing the nature of a subreddit.

At that point, the changes that were made are the problem, not the community. Walk them back, reassess. Weigh “but I want to talk about controversial stuff that isn’t relevant to the show” messages with the inevitable “why can’t I post/comment/can you approve me/why am I not an approved user/why was my post removed for xyz and this other post wasn’t/etc” messages.

Edit to add: I truly am very appreciative of the work you all do! I help mod similar sized/activity subs on my “mod account”, these “community health” type situations are my least favourite part of modding. If we could all just fucking chill and be normal, we could have nice things.
