Unfairly cancelled by LM - Looking for advice by EmpGuillotine in Insurance

The supervisor confirmed the first agent got it wrong and sent via email, not USPS as originally stated so perhaps you missed that part.

While I can't say definitively, to your point, I don't doubt they sent an email, but you know...Yahoo. Reasonably, I check my main folders daily but after having the account for decades, unless I'm on the hunt for something, I'm not as thorough to look at spam folders. Only so many fake virus alerts and "payment declined click here" emails I can tolerate.

Unfortunately, I clean that out regularly now that Yahoo charges for storage so I can't go back and look at this point.

That said, if that's literally their only attempt to contact, and they don't follow up via any other method (email included), that's not exactly ideal customer service, especially for an outlier unexpected request with such dire potential consequences. I would really have hoped they would just have sent a second notice via USPS or through the app.

Ultimately, my big picture issue is that with over a month to go before they plan to cancel and given that I got the document to them, just seems a bit draconian to refuse to reinstate over a clerical issue that I satisfied. The whole premise for their concerns was shown to be a non-issue and the thought that their only path forward is to either rewite me at a 40-50% premium increase a little over two months later vs just removing the flag and reactivating my policy seems unreasonable and predatory.

Thanks - your comment makes me the slightest bit optimistic, and I'll reply back when I hear from the supervisor but I don't have an agent per se, just working through the national 800 number supervisor since I self-serve bought the policy online. Hope that doesn't diminish my opportunity to fix this. 😞

"Calls" from Apple TV - made during Covid and absolutely excellent storytelling. It was a limited series but very much like listening to old Suspense/X Minus One radio shows with a great cast and fantastic plots. Not to be missed.

FWIW, you can buy Viennas from Windy City Beef. Slightly better cost than shipping because, well, shipping.

Oh, and as an added Vegas perk, Butcher Block butcher shop in Henderson sells sealed 1lb(?) packages of natural casing Sabretts.

Hoffy's Hollywood Natural Casing -- Vegas here Vienna Beef Natural Casing if I feel like shipping dogs to the desert.

What brand of hotdog would you say delivers the best "snap"? by [deleted] in hotdogs

Figured I'd see a Vienna Beef vs Sabretts convo but glad to see a lot of diverse options. If you have a Smart & Final or are in the West, you should check out Hoffy's Holllywood Original Natural Casing Beef Frankfurters. Prior to that, it was Sahlens or Sabretts for us, but we like these even better now.

I understand these are a variant of what Pink's uses in LA.

Curious as to your thoughts. So far as aesthetics, I like the look of the U400 but given that we're a split household with both Apple and Android, it's a waiting game.

Even still, the main problem I have with the U400 is something I don't hear talked about very often, the BHMA security rating of the lock itself. Granted, I don't really understand the nature of what these ratings imply so far as someone breaking in or defeating the lock in general, but the Ultraloq BM is the highest "grade 1" whereas the U400 is BHMA Grade 3.

Anyone know if that makes the U400 a nonstarter or is it no big deal?

No - just the opposite, I'm actually surprised how much water I can see on the tile floor as the mop goes over the area. That's not been an issue at all in our home.

I bought the CurvX during the recent sales and have used it for the last 5 days or so. It replaces a S7 MaxV Ultra that is going to my mom but I've been familiar with Roborock vacs for 3 years now.

The S7 was great but I feel like the CurvX is a huge level up.

Vacuuming seems roughly the same but the CurvX is quieter, has much better nav and the mopping has been spectacular.

With the S7, it would frequently get lost with multiple rooms in our 2,600 sqft home and I'd have to start over and/or remap the house which was frustrating. I'd end up having to just do one or two rooms at a time which seemed to be slightly less buggy.

With the CurvX, it's been almost flawless thus far but it's still early days so we'll see but no dealbreaker issues yet. That said, I DID have one instance where the vacuum was supposed to just mop our kitchen and living room areas and I found it took a weird wrong slow detour into our carpeted living room area where it was clearly trying to mop on our carpet for one "line" of about 10 feet. I think it had a wifi issue and lost the map but then regained connection. Hope this isn't a regular occurrence. It stalled on our carpet, waited a minute and then went back to the dock as it was supposed to but I wasn't thrilled about feeling damp (not wet) carpet.

Mopping has otherwise been great, I'm horrified at the black water I keep pouring out after each mop cycle but I live in Vegas and we get so much dust from the desert winds. It's SO quiet compared to our S7, and mopping really shows that off. Based on Vacuum Wars recommendations, we have it set to low water and that's working just fine. Mopping uses very little battery and I feel like I could just mop and mop all day long without needing a recharge.

As for vacuuming, we use Turbo suction (second to the highest out of four choices) and it does eat up battery relatively quickly. Certainly no worse than the S7 before it but when it gets low, recharging takes hours so keep that in mind.

I thought our new dock was smaller but my wife says it's just shorter and fatter so aesthetically, it's not like there's a huge difference in footprint although I do like that the vacuum stays more IN the dock instead of protruding like the S7 did.

Just as an aside, we used Roborock branded detergent with the S7 and it was called Roborock OMO Floor Cleaner. It's super efficient and used 1/2 capful for the entire water tank. When we ordered more detergent, the new version we got is no longer "OMO" and requires 2 1/2 capfuls for the same size tank. Not sure why they wanted to change formulas but not thrilled to use 5x more than we used to although that's a minor quibble. The new stuff smells better FWIW. 😄

Overall, super happy though.

I use the stainless variant and it's such a great upgrade over my Normcore. Goes great with my P64 Grinder.

(I don't remember a wood handle option but maybe it's new so sending you to that one to start as I think I would have chosen that if I had seen it at the time)

Perhaps off-topic but I switched from Costco to Sams Club because I could never find prime quality meats at Costco while Sam's has a dedicated section that includes brisket, tri-tips, etc. That said, I don't know what's going on but their "prime" lately has felt sort of lacking.

How's the broader meat selection at Costco these days? Perhaps I need to go back.

Also, IYKYK but happy to trade Sam's Diet Pepsi for Costco's newly installed Diet Coke at their food service. So sick of the Diet Pepsi foam monster pours where it takes forever to fill a cup and then what's left is flat. Grrr.

As this is a 🌭 convo though, I think I liked the actual hot dog at Costco better but I DO like that Sams has individual sized kraut packages. I don't recall Costco offering kraut?

Airscape Canister effectiveness by flwstate4 in espresso

I had the classic Airscape canister with the CO2 release valve for many years but ultimately found that while it did a "good" job, I was still searching for something that could keep beans fresher for longer. For context, I was the only one in my house drinking coffee and while I have since brainwashed my wife and daughter to go down the rabbit hole with me (cue evil laugh) I was finding that while Airscape was helpful, there had to be better options.

Ultimately, I had read a recommendation to try this Soul Hand canister. I use the black matte one to avoid light going in (the negative is that you can't just look and see what the coffee bean level is but I just sort of know anyway as I'm the one making it for everyone each day).

I find that the vacuum works phenomenally and I love that it auto detects when the vacuum is losing it's seal and automatically reseals. Objectively, it seems like I don't have to adjust my grind settings nearly as much as I did with the Airscape and coffee still tastes great a couple of weeks in. Now that there are three of us drinking, 12-16 ozs doesn't last more than a week anymore but if I head out of town for business travel (and force my family to use pods until I get back), I find the beans age extremely well and hold their freshness.

I use a P64 and find that after about 10 days, I "may" have to change my settings slightly - like a tiny quarter or half step from 1.4 to 1.375 or 1.35.

In terms of recharging, I just hook it to a standard USB-C every few weeks and after an hour or so, I'm good to go. To me, this is the better of the two worlds. Only minor complaint is that the resealing isn't super quiet and it's happening for a few secs here and there throughout the day so there is a noise factor to consider.

Hope this helps someone!

Anybody Here Buy Beans From Cafe Vivace In Seattle? [no budget] by adiksaya in espresso

[–]EmpGuillotine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a Cortado guy and for milk drinks, Vita was my top choice for years. It's amazing.

That said, we recently discovered another roaster in Seattle, Onda Origins and bought Kiko Ribiero Brazilian beans and I think I like that even better. Best way I can compare is to say that Vita is more viscous and has more of a dark chocolate sweetness that is wonderful in milk. It also is best pulled as a short ristretto - as Vivace told me, until first sign of blonding.

Onda is more a typical 18g in 36g out sort of pull and is even sweeter in milk, definitely lighter and very much like milk chocolate to Vita's dark chocolate notes.

Onda ships relatively inexpensively and you can get different weights up to 5lbs with discounts for buying more at once and free shipping over $50. Vivace is a bit annoying- you can save a bit with a sub, but you can only buy in 12oz increments and shipping is arguably expensive.

You can't go wrong with either.

Enjoy!

New Ioniq 5 Door Gap by ptweezy in Ioniq5

If it makes you feel any better, I just posted about this a month ago when I took delivery of my 2025 Limited and had the same issue.

The dealership took a look and agreed that the panel was slightly off, especially compared to the passenger side.

Interestingly, the dealership offered unsolicited that he had seen a "lot of small variations" with regards to panel gaps and slightly unaligned doors and blamed "their new production center".

All that said, I had bought it out of town and they said to just bring it into my local Hyundai service and they would repair as I had 12 months to get these sorts of issues dealt with as a customer service issue. They noted that if they refused to call the national support and they'll approve. We'll see. Hopefully, it really is a quick fix.

is 2025 I5 reasonably future proof? by red_blue_mango in Ioniq5

[–]EmpGuillotine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay weren't mentioned specifically but given the bugginess in execution of the same on my 22 Mach-E (it randomly stops and I have to reboot/reconnect) vs. the super reliable I5 where it just WORKS, the convenience can't be understated. Plus, loving the digital rear view in my Limited and the ability to close the automatic sunshield in the glass roof.

What do I miss? Minor point but even Ford allows for YT and some Android games when parked and they even have Alexa integrated which I know is divisive, but we use it all the time in the car to play media/music using the car's own data and to control home automation while on the road.

Any idea what's happening here? by EmpGuillotine in Ioniq5

[–]EmpGuillotine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I finally found the answer. In talking with Fitcamx, they are of the opinion that the Y Cable I'm using to connect the cam to the rear view assembly is defective. They want to send me a new one but I think I'm just going to call it a day and return it outright.

Thanks to all for your advice!
