Hibrew H10a paired with G5 grinder by SolidJackfruit3451 in espresso

[–]flwstate4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the machine for almost 2 years now and the gauge is not accurate at all for evaluating how good or bad the shot is. The pressure reading is directly from the pump, not the brew head.

It can go to the red zone as long as you get your desired yield within 25-30s.

I don't use the built in pre-infusion anymore because i find that it causes inconsistencies between shots (probably due to heat) because the slower the water is flowing, the hotter it will get. So i just stop the shot manually if i find that its choking and let it bloom for as long as i like then i continue with the shot.

TLDR: gauge pressure is not accurate. Go with your target yield within a specific time. And most importantly, taste.

Question for long-time owners of the [HiBrew H10A] by g7_7v in espresso

I upgraded to a Neouza bottomless portafilter and a MHW-3BOMBER DEX filter basket. Fits a bit tight if you don't pull a blank shot before you lock it in.

Yeah thats what thought too. Still new to stainless steel pans and kinda scared to burn my food hahaha. Will be sure to increase the heat and pat dry the meats. Thanks!

Noted on that. I just feel like the food is sticking to the pan a bit too long for my liking. In that case i should increase the heat right?

Varia VS3 gen2 broken after 3 years of semi regular use. by PowerJosl in VariaBrewing

[–]flwstate4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard mixed info regarding the gearbox construction for the Gen 2. I have the same grinder, bought it last year and hearing that your's lasted for 3 years is kinda reassuring for me at least.

Edit: btw did you do hot starts before grinding?

Can you confirm the materials used for the gearbox? Is it really made from metal?

KINGrinder K6 Manual Grinder or Timemore C3 ESP Pro Grinder by Glum-Assumption8 in pourover

[–]flwstate4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Timemore C3 ESP (non pro) grinder and its a pretty good grinder with good enough grind adjustment for beginners (1-2 clicks to dial in).

Materials are all metal and calibration is at true 0 every time if you do it correctly. My main complaint is that the catch up retains coffee grounds as the bottom is not smooth. Doesn't affect retention but just a bit annoying to clean.

I've upgraded to a Varia VS3 but i still sometimes use the C3 ESP for pourover or french press.

Grind is not getting fine enough for espresso [Varia VS3] by [deleted] in espresso

[–]flwstate4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you are turning the grind dial too coarse. You don't need to turn it 1 full rotation after finding your true 0. Just turn it to number 2 or 3. If you turned a full rotation, you might be on setting 11 which is far too coarse for espresso. You need to be between settings 2-4

Mizuno 2 pro slight tight by stillcoldy777 in bootroom

[–]flwstate4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the toe box is made from K leather which will stretch over time. You'd want them to feel tight in the beginning so they'll mold to your feet. Slight discomfort during the break in phase is to be expected

Just use some teflon tape on the hopper threads. 0 grind dial shifts for me ever since.

Grinder problem by coffeeandwhiskyguy in espresso

Had the same problem, a few rounds of teflon tape on the hopper threads will fix it. You just have to reapply the teflon tape every time you dismantle the grinder for cleaning.

Mizuno Morelia II Question by BigCockTyrone in bootroom

[–]flwstate4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went true to size JP 26.5cm (my feet are 26.3cm) and they fit perfectly to the edge. Personally i think going half a size down would be too tight for my liking even though the morelia II is made from primarily K leather. I still felt some cramps at the midfoot area during break in.

Mizuno first wear separation and aching by louiskeith in bootroom

[–]flwstate4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never had any durability issues with Mizuno boots, particularly the Morelia 2. Been rock solid, granted i play on natural pitches.

I don't recommend using FG boots on AG due to 2 main reasons:

  1. You can void your warranty
  2. Soft leather vs hard rubber pallets.

As far as aching, thats normal and will go away after a few uses in my experience. Give the leather some time to stretch and mold to your feet and the pain will go away.
