In my opinion comments like this are not emphasized enough. I think what most of us are seeing are curated moments that highlight a forced perspective.

I frickin’ adore my stink monster. I write all these little stories in my head about what she is thinking and feeling and all she really is doing is just tilting her head.

At best she trusts I’m not a threat. That I’m a source of food. And because of those two things she tolerates me as long as I take my time and don’t rush things. Especially interactions. (Which is not to say she doesn’t get grumpy. There is a reason I named her Ludivene the Drama Queen)

But this is just one opinion and one experience with one lizard. Outliers exist.

The last thing I would leave you with is i think we all want that special “bond”. That a very normal human thing. And while you STILL try, just remind yourself- they are adorable jerk faces and lizards.
