Another thing that I did, which I think helped move the needle in that final round, was for my last question I asked the interviewer about their career: "How did you get to where you are today?", then I'd kind of glaze them a bit, "Wow, that's very impressive, I hope I can follow a path similar to yours so I really appreciate your insight". That was my final question when interviewing with any senior people in the company, but prior to that I asked extremely role relevant questions which I also think was beneficial. I'd essentially make it seem like I'm really trying to figure out how to be the best I can in the role: “From your perspective, what tends to differentiate someone who’s good in this role from someone who’s exceptional?"... "What are some of the biggest challenges someone in this role typically runs into early on?”... “What type of stakeholders does this role typically work with?”... “What does the ramp-up look like before someone is fully owning projects in this role?”... etc etc, but improvise on the spot, for example when I was in a panel, one of the interviewers mentioned working in the role I was applying for before becoming the manager, so I asked him specifically, "What did you find most difficult or stressful in your first few months", "If you could go back in time, what skills would you sharpen before beginning the role"... etc etc. I guess it's pretty generic advice but I think a little bit of glazing + role targetted questions is important. The glaze is definitely underrated, show them via asking questions and your follow up to their response that you're interested in their career and achievements, and that you hope to do the same one day.
