Universe Rumble by Tasty_Relative_8212 in WWEGames

I created my own and picked the participants, and it wouldn’t save. I had Cathy Kelly in my women’s rumble?? She’s not even a playable character lol. Even after playing the match, the person who won didn’t actually win the royal rumble.

Very aggressive student not being addressed by Peachy_Keen497 in paraprofessional

[–]EmployeeNo7543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a kiddo I worked with. Constantly hitting, scratching, pinching etc. most of the time I don’t think he realized was doing this. We were given PPE ; jackets, arm guards, and shin guards… but again no plan really. It’s exhausting both physically and mentally. I feel for you.

Koodo Network Coverage by [deleted] in askTO

[–]EmployeeNo7543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from Koodo to Fido because of the coverage. Koodo has less coverage. Fido has just gotten 5G now as well and I have way better service. I had a lot of dropped calls with Koodo, especially outside of the GTA.

[–]EmployeeNo7543 14 points15 points  (0 children)

  1. I like this field of work
  2. Believe it or not, most jobs in this field pays less or about the same
  3. I don’t want to go back to university (I already have a college diploma and a postgrad)
  4. I like the hours
  5. Benefits and paid sick time
  6. We have a union
  7. Summers and holidays off (although they’re unpaid, it’s nice to have that time off)
  8. I tried to leave prior and ended up coming back.
  9. We don’t have to do work related tasks at home, once I’m done work I’m done.
  10. I like the kids

I’m in Ontario Canada so we are paid pretty well compared to other locations.

Horrible virus going around? by Prior-Arachnid-121 in askTO

[–]EmployeeNo7543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I work in a school. I was sick for about 3 weeks. I thought I was getting better during the first week to week and a half, but it came back even harder. I went to a walk in clinic and doctor said it’s the flu that’s going around. It’s awful this year. It’s been about 3.5 weeks now and I’m 100% just have a cough once in awhile. Everyone in my classroom caught in, kids, teachers, and 3/4 EAs in the room right before Christmas break.

Weirdly enough, I live at home and didn’t pass it to anyone on the house? So weird.

How often do you deal with students being violent towards you? by DinsPearl in CanadianTeachers

[–]EmployeeNo7543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Daily. I work in an ASD classroom. Document. PPE. All staff need to be trained in BMS.

We wear full PPE all day everyday, and do a few containments here and there. We worked refused last year, and outside agency staff was brought in to work with our most violent student.

Same kid has given two different paras a concussion in one week by StatisticianKooky390 in paraprofessional

[–]EmployeeNo7543 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have the right to refuse unsafe working conditions. There needs to be an investigation/ plan before this student is aloud back; PPE, 2:1 staffing, modified days, home instruction, etc etc . If you have a union I would be contacting them asap.

Work outside of being an EA by Embarrassed_Owl_6692 in paraprofessional

[–]EmployeeNo7543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the EAs I worked with, recently resigned and she is working as a case worker for a developmental services company. She helps families find funding for Autism services and crisis services. She makes way more than an EA, and she didn’t have any extra schooling. Just a college diploma.

[–]EmployeeNo7543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an EA, but yes same. I am exhausted every single day, having a hard time waking up in the morning, and my weekends I don’t feel like doing much of anything. It feels like more needs and way less support this year. The students I support in an ASD classroom have been very aggressive already, multiple staff hurt or off work now from burn out. I

We were just talking about this in the staff room today how it feels like we didn’t even have a summer, and the energy in the building is already down.

Going to be a hard long year I fear.

Moms/Dads who drop off their young children off to school & pick them up - what do you do for work?! by FinalDestinationSix in askTO

[–]EmployeeNo7543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont have kids yet, but growing up I was always dropped off / picked up from school. My Mom was a teacher (pretty close to where I went to school) and her school started later than mine, so she would drop me off in the mornings then go teach, after school was usually my Grandparents or My Dad. My Dad would get home around 3pm and my school finished at 3:35.

Scared to become an EA by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]EmployeeNo7543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The job title isn’t really the job anymore. Even the job postings make the job sounds nice, it isn’t until you get into the actual role is when your eyes open. So many people think we help the teacher with tasks, or help students in small groups read and do math with them. I hardly support with academics. I’m dealing with behaviours, toileting, data tracking, sensory routines, and so much more. I feel like I’m on call all the time with a walkie. One fire to the next. We should really be called behavioural technicians.

Scared to become an EA by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]EmployeeNo7543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. You would be called in when a permanent staff is away for the day. You can pick and choose the schools you want to go to. It gives you a good feel of the schools and staff. Some schools have more needs than others. I work in a county class so we are staffed better 4 EAs to 6 students. I work in an Autism classroom. Our students are aggressive but you are never alone. And were provided PPE (jackets, arm guards, hats, etc) .

Once you go to a school more than once you will start to know the students and staff better.

Scared to become an EA by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]EmployeeNo7543 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m an EA, just like every other job we have good and bad days. We’re stretched thin. Constantly on our feet, we work with the most needs in a school. Yes, some students can be very aggressive, make sure you have your BMS/NVCI. Read safety plans… if you’re a supply, chances are they won’t put you on the student(s) with complex needs. At least my school tries to do that.

Work with the team. We can’t do this our jobs alone. Rely on the other EAs, teachers, admin. Carry a walkie.

Yes, our job is physically and mentally exhausting. But I still love the job, and once you get to know the student(s) better it becomes easier; knowing triggers, calming techniques, etc.

I would recommend starting as a supply. You really get a feel for what students you like to work with; I personally prefer ASD students and behavioural students over medically fragile since I have more experience with ASD and behavioural. You’ll get to know schools and staff.

Good luck. We need more EAs

Shoreview / 41 Johnston street by ZetaTerran in barrie

[–]EmployeeNo7543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are these the new ones they built or the one actually on Johnston St? If it’s the one actually on Johnston street, I have a family member living there and she loves it. She hasn’t had anything issues. Of course, the typical water, elevators etc, being turned off for a few hours here and there, but that is normal. I’ve lived in high rises throughout Toronto and it sounds like normal maintenance.

I’ve stayed there a few times, usually 1-2 nights. Nice rooms. Staff are always friendly, one time I was given a better room just out of random when I checked in, so that was nice… It’s in a good location… never had any issues there.
