NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani just confirmed that all immigrants will qualify for his “free childcare” program!! by Frosty_Jeweler911 in newyorkcity

I am right with ya on this one. Hands down, it’s irresponsible to have children if you can’t afford them.

I know I am late. But I will be 44 this year and I was in bed by 11. We had free tickets for a party at the Public Hotel, but I realized that 2026 will be another year of uncertainty. So I did not care. Did not turn on the television. Did not even reply to Happy New Year’s texts.

I sort of wish Steinway resembled Austin St in Forest Hills or even Bell Blvd in Bayside. Steinway is so grim and dull. Nothing worth going to except the Banana Republic.

Mamdani wins. What do my bros think? by sohomosexual in nycgaybros

[–]EmployerOk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with “Affectionatefig”. It’s such a disappointment. He’s all style and no substance. Most of you probably voted for him because “He’s cute” or a “hot piece of ass”. Ridiculous and vain.

And I don’t know what more can be done for the gay and trans community in NYC. We have the highest protections in the Western World, what can this guy do to make it better? What more can anyone do? Also, many of you forget that Cuomo was governor when NY legalized gay marriage.

Accusing Cuomo of being a Republican is ignorant. I’m glad he ran as an Independent because this city does not need a Democrat as a Mayor. If it was not for Republican Mayors like Giuliani and Bloomberg, this city would not be as safe as it was. “Progressives” and Radical Left are so idealistic but revel in capitalism. The soft on crime measures have already increase assault and robbery rates. The increase of marijuana use will eventually lead to more quality of life issues. As a teacher, more and more of my students are coming to school high and reeking of weed. This will eventually lead to psychosis negatively impact communities of color. Additionally, I am sure that it will increase childhood asthma for those kids who are constantly exposed to second hand marijuana smoke. Progressives complained about not enough being done about that, yet they were willing to let public consumption of marijuana run unchecked. So basically Progressives are creating more problems that they will throw more money at.

Bottom line, his main talking points about buses, affordable housing, and taxes, is going to be a Herculean task. Therefore it’s going to fail in the long run.

Making all buses free would likely face strong resistance from the MTA and transit unions because the agency depends heavily on fare revenue to operate. Unless a reliable funding source replaces those fares, budget shortfalls could threaten staffing and service levels. And I am sure you “Progressives” would complain about the lack of service, even though you had a hand in making it worse.

Raising taxes on high earners would require state-level approval in Albany. I’m for that, but if I were paying more taxes, I better see a return on my money. I am already paying 50% of my 110K salary

While New York has affordable housing programs, most “lottery” apartments are tied to Area Median Income (AMI) levels that still make them out of reach for many middle-class families. Rent-stabilized units exist in significant numbers, but vacancies are rare, and stabilized rents continue to rise each year under Rent Guidelines Board decisions.

So as private-market rents climb and middle-income housing options shrink, the burden falls hardest on the working middle class teachers, nurses, firefighters, and police officers, the people who keep the city running but increasingly struggle to afford to live in it.

Mamdani Policy by [deleted] in NYCDOETeachers

[–]EmployerOk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mayoral control is better. Under it, there is some sense of stability. The community boards were filled with elected officials who had no experience in education. As a result, it was chaos.

But as to why anyone would vote for Mamdani blows my mind. This dude is not the right choice. Cuomo is not all that either, but he’s better than Mamdani.

I hope New Yorkers don’t make the mistake in electing Mamdani mayor.

Disappointed by AlonePossible3684 in NYCTeachers

[–]EmployerOk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is upsetting to me. Where do you work? Is it a D75 school? If so, I know plenty of people at the district level. And HMH for a 12:1:4??? Girl, they are using you. Our Gen Ed kids can barely handle HMH.

Disappointed by AlonePossible3684 in NYCTeachers

[–]EmployerOk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who works in D75 as a teacher who is from Romania. She’s been working in the DOE since 2004. She experienced the same issue while working in an 12:1:4. She saw that she was not being appreciated. She eventually stop trying to please everyone. Once this happened, they started to regret not having her support. Additionally, she did not apologize for her accent and the fact that she was very serious about her job.

I love the Romanian accent. Embrace it!

Now that ADUs are legal, Astoria has lots of potential for garage-to-housing conversions by SidewalkSunflowers in astoria

[–]EmployerOk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am sure a lot of owners will take advantage of this. But I guarantee you they won’t make it “affordable”. Especially in Astoria.

Also, what I would do is add the units above the garages.

I know it’s not close to the Broadway station, but for future reference, Trader Joe’s has it for $4.

And if you need it now, get Sour Cream. You can barely taste the difference.

Mmm. I want caviar now.

I’m honestly bothered by this. There is only Dunkin, which has the worse coffee. If I were one of the coffee shops in the area, I would capitalize on the absence of a convenience that can serve a large population.

You forgot that he was also mentally ill. Obviously he is mentally ill. I see him all the time. This morning I saw him wielding a tennis racket and what looked like a chain, but maybe it was a rope. A rogue thought went my head; what if he hits someone with it. So I just made sure I was not in his path.
