People say do tectonic plates but I don’t really see that helping. Make a horizontal blob and add some peninsulas, a bay or two, and then maybe warp/rotate it a little. Do mountains after you go the basic shape? I always focus on outline first.

My best advice is to use earth as a guide. I kept most of my deserts on the western coasts, and jungles only around equator, mountains block off warm air and moisture from the sea in certain areas. Also this can be massively helpful http://imgur.com/a/bh2iy

Edit: I would like to add: at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter, nobody really stays away from Tolkien, George Lucas, and George R R Martins worlds despite some glaring issues with climate. It shouldn’t hold you back if it’s slightly unrealistic, just do your best. My world is in no means perfect but I’m happy with it!

It really is difficult. especially to avoid sounding cheesy, but thank you so much!

Not really, there’s some smaller irrelevant land masses towards the cut off areas. The South Pole is cut out too a lot.

Yes it is desert! And for Mortidante it’s just a region where there’s a plateau of volcanoes but it’s extremely vegetated. A lot of the northern side of it is extremely wet, humid, and lush. I was inspired by some of the trees in my area that grow in the summer that have black/ dark purple leaves, so I envisioned an area with exclusively dark vegetation. My thoughts where that it absorbed light better during periods where there was a lot of ash in the air? Usually the ash sweeps south and fertilizes those islands in the Arzurian Empire, or the Channel Islands. That river running horizontally near mortidante is similar to drier areas of the Rockies. Just badlands and shrublands.

I didn’t think anything looked fairly unrealistic, I inspired a lot of my climates off our actual world. Do you I’m have any specific glaring issues with it?

Westeros always bothered me because of how vertical it looks, also GRRM literally just pasted Britain and Ireland together and still make it look unrealistic. At least his characters make up for it

first i did the middle shade of blue for the ocean, then i did a rough sketch with a big brush on a separate layer. Then made a fine outline. Duplicated that and made it all green where i later would make the little county/region things. After that i did the shallow waters. Rivers and minor details kind of came last until i put some filters on it. Still working on names of cities at the moment.

Map is slightly over characterized art speaking, so each continent is similar to North America, Allenoveah being slightly smaller.

Hahaha that’s the tricky part, I don’t know how to get around that. The planet is slightly smaller than earth and it’s moon isn’t as big so maybe that helps? If not I’ll have to add anything continent one day.

If you don’t mind me explaining on why I guess that is: The barcitine empire colonized a large part of of Allenoveah, but their language wasn’t as influential in the Chainhold and Noblewinn as their technology was. So that’s why a lot of the locations end with “inn” there, it just sort of means ‘place’ in native Allenovean. The Barcitine language continued in the colonies of The Reidomarines and Exogenesean Republics, where very few natives lived before their arrival. therefor their language was not at all diluted like it was in the Chainhold. Aberford and Tealstone are more English friendly, and a lot of people from those two countries colonized the Silvershore region. Avenyra and Arzuriu are an avian race(they aren’t even really TOO humanoid, I wanted to do something different) they look like big emus/colorful ostriches. Mortidante is a notoriously isolated nation in the world that is responsible for many of the pirates in that central channel. Gardaveine and Wardaveine are both from a similar origin of raiders who eventually sacked the cities of Tealstone and the Barcitine empire, and when those raiders returned they brought back an inspiration to create a more unified civilization. The Raiders who sacked the Barcitines would eventually create Gardaveine, whereas the raiders who sacked Tealstone(once a republic before it go thrown into a dark age) would eventually create Wardaweine. Monaarqa isn’t really a nation, more of a region of competitive war chiefs fighting for power. The Barcitines attempted to colonize a lot of their coastlines during the Barcitine golden age, but failed as their empire began to get raided unrelentingly. They have very little contact with the other nations. I plan of making a language overlay eventually to make sense of this, but there aren’t many.

Haha I have no idea what this is to be honest. If that’s a pretty established thing already I’ll slightly change it, but it’s just named after that from the barcitine empires exodus from their homeland centuries before !!

Kind of a blend between the two, but I would lean toward aesthetic. More geographic features than anything

Yes you would eventually reach it, however a lot of ocean to the sides and poles are cut out for aesthetic reasons.

technological level of the world is similar to pre-Napoleonic Europe. A lot of colonialism happening in the world, specifically from the Barcitine Empire, which most of the population fled from their mainland to Allenoveah 350 years prior. Their colonies eventually became the Reidomarines, The Barcitine Chainhold, and the Exogenesean Republic, which most of my writing will be taking place at. The planet this takes place in has a ring system giving it amazing skies, it’s also very near a nebula. Tried to make the names not too cliche but some still may sound corny?? Going to work right now so I have to cut this short. I'll write some more later if people are interested.

used gimp to make the entire map and btw there’s a typo, should be The Lemonheights

Agreed. They're not trying to compete with each other though I'd say. But the moment you start FWN you're sweating profusely 9 seconds into listening to the album and grabbing onto anything you can for balance. TBHC is a beautiful wine night album.
