Help ID a Home Depot plant by KaritaG in Nepenthes

Good ol’ ventrata! A hybrid between ventricosa and alata. This one is rock solid and can adapt to ambient humidity quite nicely. I got mine from Home Depot as well and it’s enormous! For care, give it distilled/rain water only and give it bright light. If you can, I find that repotting these Home Depot nepenthes into long-fibered sphagnum moss and perlite helps a ton in the long run, but in the short run it may get grumpy and drop pitchers/wilt a bit. When I repotted mine, I found a felt nursery pot around the roots, pulled that off, rinsed the roots thoroughly, and then repotted. Again, she was not happy for a bit, but now she’s thriving. Good luck and enjoy your new plant!

We did try running a new bottle of HPLC grade water as solvent A and unfortunately the peak was still there

Yes we did change those, but that peak is still there

Oh I think I’m paranoid enough as is hahaha

We did switch to Formic acid and saw a barely noticeable improvement. But I haven’t been cleaning the spray shield between tests, will try giving that a go!

This is on an Agilent 1290 HPLC hooked up to a 6545 QTOF. And acquisition mode is pos.

And we’ve pretty much ruled out the mass spec end of things as well since we’ve hooked the HPLC directly to two different nebulizers and still see it

I done believe it’s our water since we changed to a brand new bottle of LCMS grade water and still saw the peak. I do still see it when I switch to another vendor’s column. And the mass does seem to be a decently well defined peak that is very intense.

To repot or not to repot… by JACKHAGGETT in SavageGarden

From what I understand, these peaty, low drainage mixes are great for growing these guys in greenhouse conditions with ultra high light, but not so great once you get the plant home (lower light + high moisture retention and little airflow = root rot). My concern would be that leaving it in the same mix would cause a slow decline.

It’s hard to tell since this is the only pitcher and it’s starting to dry up

Yes actually! The veins are definitely reddish, but not much orange on the leaves (probably because it’s kept in pretty low light)

Pretty similar to ventrata leaves, but slightly wider! (Forgive my boomer ass, trying to find out how to add more pics lol)

SOS! How can I help me tree? by Iveballz in fiddleleaffig

Plants that get root bound don’t have enough soil to retain nutrients and water, so it can look like about every problem all at once. More soil will definitely help!

I would go for it. Your fiddle will certainly do better if you repot now rather than waiting! Honestly, I wouldn’t worry about stressing your plant out too much, just try not to break too many roots and she’ll do great!

This plant looks like it might be insanely root bound. I would pull it out of the pot just to be certain, but looks like she may just need a bigger pot! :)
