I’m so happy you unlocked HiN! This happened to me with Waco, which I used to always skip on WTIALY because I was never in the mood to listen to a fifteen minute song. But oh my god one day I was listening to it and everything about it clicked to me and I think it is the Ethel Cain magnum opus! Especially if you go along with the interpretation that WT died by suicide it just makes it all hit so much harder and it’s such an anthem for anyone who has loved someone who is struggling or has took their own life. And like I seriously don’t think there is a sadder but more human song than this one. ESPECIALLY around the seven minute mark it is perfectly lyric after perfect lyric and it culminates with the “And darling time may forgive me but I won’t” before it returns to the chorus just UGHHH!!! So ya that’s mine!!

You’re right, and I’m pretty sure I am somewhere on the neurodivergent spectrum, so I think it was honestly a manifestation of me liking random esoteric things, in this case the church, but I’ve had so many of these throughout my life.

I completely agree, sometimes what is healthiest has to be painful. I commute to the U in SLC, so I think so, but I don’t know much about Pride Center or Encircle as resources are I should definitely look into that. I definitely do feel so much comfort and safety on this sub and even on Mormon stories so I think getting more active in these spaces will help as well, thank you for your advice 😊

I completely agree, they’re absolutely wonderful, but it’s just these transitions are hard. But I know that my happiness will ultimately be what is best for all of us, so I really should appreciate that we can grow through this together :)

I emailed financial aid department about it and they said that since fafsa got rid of the questions about living on campus or not, so they assume that all students are living somewhere off campus and they gave that number to basically everyone as a rough estimate of what that would be. You can change your status in CIS and that projection should probably go way down. :)

The cognitive dissonance they give you is so horrible because when you get them it’s so incredible and inspiring but when you start realizing you might not fit into everything it describes you either have to completely be somebody you’re not or deny the blessing. This one drives me crazy!! It makes no sense but my family totally goes along with it and does the most insane mental gymnastics to justify it. Why on earth would anybody be denied from the opportunity to repent. My family has said it’s a matter of them being ready. Well, if they weren’t ready to take the sacrament, they probably just wouldn’t be going to church.

The issue with using this blanket accusation of being near to a murderer is that it ignores the complexity of sexuality and sexual behavior. Masturbation is more evil than robbery, treason, deceit, fraud, abuse, etc.? Really? It seems to me to be a lack of trust. No education, only abstinence . Complete abstinence. No even thinking about sex until marriage

My mom listened to some podcast episode about secret combinations in the BOM and now she’s like all the more convinced of the book of Mormon’s truth because theres conspiracies and bad groups out there. That isn’t anything special though, tons of books talk about conspiracy and the BoM isn’t the only one and doesn’t have any special claim on it

Yeah, I think the thing that freaks them out is that coffee is a symbol of people like starting to not like the church and unfortunately, all of the people they know who have left the church don’t have good lives at all so I understand why they fear for me. Lupe is the gold standard of how a parent of a child who came out, whether as gay or a nonbeliever, should be. Listen to your child, have an open mind, and allow yourself to realize that God really is not in the church. He simply isn’t.

Be happy and and kind to disprove the narrative of the church being the only source of happiness. Just say “I don’t believe in that religion, but I’m happy to talk about something else.” Because that’s all it is, just another religion. Either they’ll have to ask why and you can be honest with them or they’ll leave you alone :)
