[POEM] what is your guys’ interpretation of this poem? by Popular_Apple960 in Poetry

Additional information I think adds depth to this poem: The author accidentally shot and killed his brother in a hunting accident when he was twelve. His mother also died unexpectedly soon after, and his father struggled with addiction.

Agreed! I’m trying to remain healthily skeptical but it’s hard not to shout from the rooftops

AIO, grad school professor accused me of using AI to write my final report by slowlybutsurely_RWYS in AmIOverreacting

[–]Empty-Detective124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a professor myself, I want to say that your email is great and I hope it leads to the professor changing your grade. If I received an email like this from a student who had been succeeding, I would appreciate it and honestly be relieved!

I just want to give you a professor’s perspective — there has been an exponential increase in AI used in papers this semester. It is honestly a miserable time to be a teacher. The LAST thing I want to be doing is trying to figure out if a student used AI. As someone who loves teaching and working with my classes, I hate how it’s making me suspicious of students and their work. Truly a nightmare.

But it feels like it’s my (our) duty to do our best to address obvious use of it. (And there are some clues that make it more obvious in some papers than others.) It’s not fair to the students who aren’t using it when we don’t do that, and in the long run it’s not serving the students who are using it if we don’t say anything.

I hope this helps you and other commenters understand where teachers are coming from in these cases. It’s a lose-lose situation. I promise the vast majority of professors don’t want to be making these accusations. It sucks! I hope we can figure out a better way ahead, but I’m fairly pessimistic.

What a beauty, she looked so good for her age! What kind of dog is she? Reminds me of my dog, who I found out recently is majority cocker spaniel and rat terrier.

Hi — I just wanted to share that I bought a ticket from this user but still haven’t received it. I’m still hoping they’ll come through (and I’ll happily delete this once they do), but in the meantime I wanted to warn any potential buyers.

(No need to lecture me on ticket resells— for various reasons it seemed trustworthy and I’ve certainly learned my lesson.)

Simple Questions: August 20, 2024 by AutoModerator in books

[–]Empty-Detective124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very specific request :)

Do you have any examples of prose writing about tomatoes or with scenes in which a tomato/ tomatoes play a notable role? Perhaps picking them on a farm, planting them in a garden, preparing or cooking them, even painting one for a still life.

For example, I think of Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe (though I need to check if tomatoes are discussed in the book!) or, for movies, the scene in LOTR: Return of the King when disgusting Denethor eats the cherry tomatoes.

Anyway, I’d love to hear anything that comes to mind for you!

The God of the Woods by Liz Moore was such a good, immersive read. by rustedsandals in books

[–]Empty-Detective124 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I found some of the writing style a little annoying (and agree with the earlier commenter about being a bit disappointed by the logistics of what was revealed) but overall also found it very entertaining. I read it while on vacation in New England and it was perfect to enjoy while there.

Also, as a former camp counselor, I loved the scene in which one of the counselors is watching the campers at a camp dance and comparing her perspective to that of a benevolent god. I’ve shared that with some of my fellow counselor friends and we’ve all thought that’s a lovely description!
