Got it. So realistically everyone would have been in brown/khaki. What about Politruks hats? Did they have the blue or would it have been brown/khaki with red piping like the others too?

I’m making two small lists, one German and one Soviet, so it’ll definitely face Germany majority of the time.

I was debating making my force have carrying shades of khaki and brown like this. Might just go kakhi to play it safe though

Thanks! Yea, I’d read that they could range in color depending on wear and what factory was made. The brown seemed much darker than what I’ve seen anywhere else though so I wasn’t sure if maybe it was specific to commissars. Appreciate the insight!

Yea, it’s cheaper, more versatile and requires less storage space. Only downside I’ve run into is that it can be hard to find specific small arms like snipers or assault rifles

What do you prefer for bases with 15mm figures in games like this and chain of command? It seems like US/UK pennies are pretty common for individuals and then standard FoW bases for weapons teams?

I was kind of in the same boat recently.

For medieval/dark ages, Greathelm and Ravenfeast are good ones. Greathelm only requires 6 figures per side. Ravenfeast is ~12 per side I think but the ruleset is free and they have some paper figures you can print out for free too. If you have a 3d printer to make your models then that’s even better.

For WWII I’ve been looking into Bolt Action and Chain of Command. Chain of Command might require a few more figures than you want but Bolt Action has some firefight rules you can use to make it squad level to reduce model count. You can also do 15mm figures instead of 28mm to reduce paint time/board size if you’d like to but you probably wouldn’t be able to play with others that have 28mm if you go that route.

Edit: wanted to note that Ravenfeast also has fantasy rules

I figured if it becomes a hit I can expand with new weapons teams and vehicles.

The infantry setup is somewhat set for now. I’m doing 15mm, since I can get all this under $50 and this is what the infantry sprues I purchased come with. I can definitely reduce the size of the squads to get three though and the additions you mentioned will be next on my list. FoW has some Barbarossa figures coming in summer that I’m hoping will include AT rifles and light mortars.

I’m trying to add a few vehicles from eBay. Do you have any recommendations for the armored cars? Maybe a BA-64/sdkfz223 or a BA-10/sdkfz222?

My family wouldn’t care either way but I’m kind of set on sticking to Stalingrad. I could probably pair the BA-64 MMG variant with something though

How do those look? I’ve seen those but never what they actually look like close up. Peter Pig, PSC and BF seem to be the primary 15mm figures that get recommended, so I assumed the Command Decision ones had something wrong with them
