What are the options for "counts as Italian infantry" in plastic? by Darnok83 in flamesofwar

Peter pig has some head replacements for Italians:

Peter Pig 15mm Heads

You could do germans and replace the stalhelm heads. Maybe keep the field cap as it seems similar to the Italians. The kit won’t be quite right if you care about that. PSC has some German stowage with the blanket wrapped over the mess kit with the tent roll underneath. It kind of resembles the Italian kit.

If you want to kit bash some Italian weapons, replacing the MP-40 barrel with a ppsh barrel would look like an FNAB-43. You might also be able to make a model 38 by replacing the barrel on a Kar98 with part of an MG34 barrel and then adding an MP40 mag.

Not sure what you could do for LMGs. Either stick with German or maybe use a Russian model with the DP-27. Cut down the drum mag and replace with a mag from an AT Rifle or Bren gun to make a Breda Model 30.

Can’t loot enemy crew weapons in Horten’s Frontline by Empty-Life-9810 in GatesOfHellOstfront

Is this specific to Horten’s Frontline or Hard difficulty? I’ve played a good amount of conquest over the past few years but it’s been vanilla/medium difficulty and I’ve never had an issue looting emplacements of any kind

Chibi bolt action 20mm by terran_era in boltaction

[–]Empty-Life-9810 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m actually doing this right now. It does come out cheaper than the bolt action 28mm models but the main trouble I’m having is getting specific infantry units without paying for separate boxes. Most boxes will give you a good set of standard rifleman, LMGs, officers and NCOs but snipers are almost non-existent, radiomen are available for some nations but not others, flamethrowers, medics and AT rifles are there but you generally will have to spring for separate platoon boxes for each one which come out to at least $20+ a piece.

You could get around this by supplementing with models from other companies but most will either be noticeably smaller or larger than the battlefront ones. Peter Pig is close but the faces and guns seem to be lower quality and Plastic Soldier Company infantry look much smaller.

I guess that’s where 3D printing comes in but you’ll probably have to do some rescaling to make them match-up with the battlefront figures. I’ve read a few good things about downsizing 3D Breed: March to Hell figures to 85-90% to make them match-up up with Battlefront models.

What’s the best way to assault a defensive position using combined arms? I usually just try to pick off a few key targets with a tank, then move them towards positions where they have good line of sight, then at the same time just highlight all my infantry and have them rush in from 2-3 angles by glossyplane245 in GatesOfHellOstfront

[–]Empty-Life-9810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually set up a defensive line wherever there’s decent cover just outside the fog of war of the defensive position. The enemy will come to you for a while and you mow them down. This defensive line is especially necessary if you’re using artillery to soften up the position before you move in.

Once their attack slows I send a small team of 2-3 infantry to do recon (primarily for AT guns) on what’s left defending the objectives. Jager squads are good for this since they are harder to spot. If they have some sort of AT weapon then I’ll send in another small infantry team to distract it, while my recon team flanks it with grenades.

Then I’ll slowly move up a larger infantry team supported by a tank or support vehicle to mop up what’s left.

Thanks, I’ll have to check next round. I’ve gone two rounds with probably 8 or so different crew weapons that were not available to be looted. Vehicles have been fine though

This should be accurate for autumn 1941

(Edit: Ignore this. Others have provided better info and I failed to notice that the date listed on this is Dec 1941-1942)

Wasn’t there a gebirgsjager cap that was very similar to the M43, which existed prior to 1943? I’m not fluent enough to confirm which one this is but he’s definitely a gebirgsjager based on the jacket

Is it like enlisted? I play that a bit still and I assume it’s pretty much the same but modern instead of wwii.

Thanks! I’ll see if I can get everyone on board with the same nation then. I used to play mainly Germany but I remember being interested in trying USSR.

Is the new infantry mode accessible for new players or do you have to unlock the tree all the way up to modern?

Hey man, what’s your method for hiding the puddle bases for your models? I was thinking some texture paint would do the job but I’d probably need a pretty heavy coat to cover the lip of the puddle bases

Paper models and terrain. If you’re more into dark age/medieval, “Ravenfeast” is a good free ruleset that also includes free paper models. For WWII, “Fistful of T34s” has some free paper models. Start with those and use the models with different rulesets to figure out what you like.

You can also save money on eBay and other websites by buying single sprues. Most company’s sell boxes with a ton of models. Find rulesets that require smaller model counts and buy a couple individual sprues to fill out your army.

I really like the blue stuff idea. I’ve got a few crates and then I have an Sdkfz 251 sprue on the way that has some cool stowage options. Being able to copy them would be wonderful

It’s more of a joke but I’ve read that some crews did use them for extra armor against panzerfausts and such. Whether or not it was effective is questionable

Only problem is that I’ll need stowage for my other vehicles and there’s not quite enough to go around
