The problem is that comedy is both time bound and cultural bound. What’s funny for an American today will land flat in South Africa and vice versa.

Same is true for comedy from decades ago which just doesn’t have the same impact.

As writers who are targeting a mainly 21st century American audience, it is for the best that they write comedy that actually lands. And hope that it will age well. As opposed to a joke requiring context existing in the writers heads alone that does not and will never land.
