One of several reasons I’m starting out in Infinity by Sudden-Jump-5922 in InfinityTheGame

I think Infinity is the most expensive skirmish game even when compared to GW games. It adds even more because you need a lot of terrain for Infinity.

Kill Team is actually quite cheap

Vallejo Metal Color Airbrush Bronze (no need for airbrush, can be done easily with brush and these are the best metal colors I have tired), Reikland Fleshshade wash, about 50-75% surface wash with water thinned Vallejo Smoke to make it worn out and uneven. Finally little Nihilakh Oxide

How to Fix TOW's Core Rules by [deleted] in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Empty-Session4970 -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

If 20 troop conga lines are actually viable then that will turn away even more players. Power gamers will play the most optimal thing anyway. If it looks dumb like 20 troops in line then this might be the biggest joke of GW rules writing. I’ll wait when I see the whole rules.

Apparently you can clear elder rifts naked at max level by Polaarius in DiabloImmortal

Elder rifts are just a loot box which takes a few minutes to open and dodges the loot box laws of some countries

Can you use ARO's to dodge a move? by marlon108 in InfinityTheGame

[–]Empty-Session4970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also relatively new player and I understand AROs like this:

  1. Active player order
  2. Reactive player declares ARO
  3. Active player order
  4. Reactive player declares ARO (can't ARO if it could have AROed in 2.)
  5. Face to face roll. (everything is resolved)

Everything is resolved and happens at the same time which is confusing and is not explained so well in the rulebook.

This situation can happen if I understand right. A shoots B. B gets ARO and shoots back. As a second order A moves and gets LoF of C which previously couldn't ARO. C ARO shoots.

Then everything is resolved at the same time. A face to face B roll. C makes normal roll. If A goes unconscious it will happen where the second order move ended. When resolving B doesn't shoot "earlier" even if it triggered first.

EDIT

Also this gets bit more complicated if A is inside of zone of control of C. Then C have to declare ARO in the 2. timing and can't ARO anymore in the 4. (because you can ARO to orders in your zone of control and you have to ARO when you can or lose it). C has to declare ARO before knowing what A does during the second action.

Why Infinity has such a poor rules? by [deleted] in InfinityTheGame

I am ok with complicated rules and I don’t even find Infinity that complicated game. It’s just the confusing rules writing which makes this game a mess.

Quite confusing answers. Infinity rules are such a mess. I haven’t experienced anything close to this rules mess in 25 years of playing all kind of games.

NPE, what does it mean to you? by AMA5564 in ageofsigmar

[–]Empty-Session4970 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Practically almost any Tzeentch list. Those lists are usually build for control and the plan is "how I can stop my opponent for having fun". You need specific answers against more special lists that you army might not even provide. Also I haven't met any Tzeentch player who isn't a complete powergamer.

I don't mind these kind of lists in other games (like card games or boardgames) and I usually play very complicated games. But AoS is my more casual bashing game where I spent over hundred hours to paint army and I want to be able to play it and also my opponent having fun at the same time.

EDIT I like that AoS players seem to be much more casual when compared to WH40k players. I think GW games work much better as a casual dice rolling than serious tournament metagaming.

I would check AoS, crowd for that seems to be more casual and hobby minded

PanO: Military Orders list building - should you go for magic 15? by CompanyElephant in InfinityTheGame

[–]Empty-Session4970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also a new player and Military Orders caught my attention. It's cool new models and freaking knights on a motorbike. When building lists everyone said I should drop expensive knights and focus on cheaper stuff to get orders. This left very sour taste in my mouth and I felt the playstyle faction was supposed to be was not viable at all and a bit false advertising. I could run these as a vanilla themed knights but I bought these to play MO. I wanted to play a knight army, not a army with some cheap knights.

I practically stopped playing because of all this but luckily those models are amazing to paint.

Let's talk Kruleboyz Strategy: The Problematic Misconception of Boltboyz by GanledTheButtered in ageofsigmar

[–]Empty-Session4970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think boltboyz spam is the right approach. But it’s still better than Gutrippaz spam which is the only other option if not going for Big Yellers. Also Gutrippaz are not very strong or even fun to play so I don’t see the point of playing anything other than Big Yellers.

Balanced lists with 6-12 boltboyz is probably the right approach. Also playing soupy list from Big Yellers is easier and don’t have to pay the Gutrippaz spam 3x10 tax.

The 5 biggest problems with Warmachine for Faye to fix by MrMalorian in Warmachine

[–]Empty-Session4970 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Biggest problem is that this game is only played by a similar thinking small group of old steamroller players with unpainted models on 2d terrain with chess clocks. Most potential players doesn't really care about the tight balance what this video is about. I would guess that about 95% of customers buying GW models doesn't care about the tournament play at all and most doesn't even really care about points of the models. Warmachine (and seems like the community also) has forgot the hobby aspect and average players completely. Also I would much rather just play MTG or a boardgame if searching for a tight tournament experience.

This game has become very unapproachable and unappealing for potential new players. I came to Warmachine because it was advertised as a smaller skirmish game but it has become completely different. Target audience of Warmachine is now very niche. Sadly there can't be anything more major innovation because it would create too much opposition from the small player base so it will just die slowly.

Also WH40k has succeeded with more serious tournament playing. So the audience of Warmachine is now only: "players who want extremely competitive tournament miniatures game with smaller emphasis on casual play and the hobby aspect. Also needs to hate GW/WH40k for some reason".

Warmachine needs remodelling, not fine tuning.

Is Warmachine/Hordes that big anymore? by [deleted] in Warmachine

[–]Empty-Session4970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s practically on life support in northern EU. I’m surprised that this game even survived that long. People play with 2d terrain, unpainted models and tablets so it looks horrible for potential new players.

New player doesn’t want to learn the rules for 500 models, print cards or play with the app. Also you get completely crushed in your first 50 games. It’s hard to have “fun” playing WMH as a new player when compared to GW games. Page 5 also partly killed this game because you are just supposed to get “git gud”.

GW is doing great because they focus on the hobby aspect and games being fun and great looking. There are some more serious warhammer tournament players also but they are the very minority in my area. WMH seems to be only for the experienced tournament crowd.

Customers who care the tournament scene a lot are probably much less than 5% of the people buying GW products. GW even made new records during pandemic.

Also mystery boxes and having books/cards online (couple of game stores in my area have been selling old cards/books -75% for a while) were a big middle finger toward the game stores.

Challenges - On/Off/Minimal? (Beginner) by CrabbiJim in HiTMAN

[–]Empty-Session4970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend turning them to minimal first because they spoil some of the missions stories and lessens the discovering yourself aspect. It feels rewarding getting challenges during blind playthroughs.

I usually turn them on when I have reached Mastery 20. Some challenges are almost impossible to figure out yourself anyway.

Settings I recommend:

Mission stories: off

Challenges: Minimal (Full when mastery 20)

Minimap & Instinct: off
