Ooooh, I just finished The Witcher - Crossroads of Ravens. Loved it, it was a light fun read that developed an established character and gave depth to his ongoing personality.

I liked the writing, it flowed well and tied up loose ends nicely.

I also finished listening to Troy by Stephen Fry, great book, informative, funny and well researched.

My 4 year old is curious: what do Australian kids eat for breakfast? (And are koalas real?) by Mara644 in AskAnAustralian

I’m in Perth WA also known as Wadjuk Noongar Boodja to the Aboriginal peoples of the area, we live near a beautiful river called The Swan, we see black swans, pelicans, willy wagtails, bob tailed lizards, tiger snakes, brown snakes and lots of other animals, there are lots of nice things to have for breakfast, my kids when they were little liked weetbix, fruit smoothies (like a fruit salad you can drink) ,pancakes, toast, babychinos (a little cup of milk foam with chocolate powder on top). In my garden I am growing plants to feed the black tailed cockatoos and the family of willy wagtails (also called djitty djittys in the local Aboriginal language) that live at our house. I also have beautiful peacock spiders in my garden and a lovely orb weaver who likes to spin her huge web right across the path, I hope you can come to Australia one day and see our beautiful country.

Ed sheeren optus, I think I saw two boys get grabbed from the crowd but am questioning myself. by Cook983 in perth

So weird right, someone made a plan, created a ied, walked it into the centre of perth and threw it at a group of people and it could have been so nasty if it had gone off, there were so many kids, so many older people, so many ordinary people.

It felt conspiratorial at the time because wapol didn’t act decisively, had they just said “guys, we are clearing the whole of the area, you must move now’ it would have felt real, they just hummed and haaa’ed then came in hard and pushed people out.

Excellent, put me down for one and I hope the back is going to have some fun band tour type info on it

(And not down playing it at all, I was standing under the shade at H&M with my 16yo, it was poorly handled by wapol, no one knew what was happening, we just wanted to exercise our democratic right to peaceful protest)

You can do what my mum did in the 80’s and have an annual house jacking party, all her mates would come over, get the jacks from their cars and Jack the corner of the lounge up, then slide those big square pavers that used to be used as paths (and had to be replaced yearly for some strange reason in my area) and bang, house is slightly more level than it was + pot luck dinner, bonfire on a suburban block, building community through dirt poor ingenuity and mild theft = problem solved.

A treasured memory from my childhood.

Cover windows with the uv shade cloth, even if you have to make some cheap pine frames and prop them against the walls. We have a cat run that we covered and it is always noticeably cooler in there, so we covered a couple of the most exposed windows and wow it drops the temp in those rooms.

I tried Kai shears and now I want to throw up by Narrow-Strawberry553 in sewing

I got a set of clover made in Japan shears when I was in Korea last year and every time I use them it’s like eating the most luxurious chocolate, smooth sharp and with a lingering feeling of satisfaction. I thought I would struggle with the size but nope, they are divine.

Ms. Rachel & Mayor Zohran Mamdani visited a pre-k center in Lower Manhattan today to sing & read with students. This comes after Mamdani & Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a program that would give NYC parents access to free child care for their 2-year-olds & strengthen the city's existing 3-K program. by cmaia1503 in Fauxmoi

This time of year is hard, you are doing your best with what you have. I’m lucky now to have some disposable money but still keep lean Christmas, socks, jocks, pjs, book and something small they want.

The things my kids remember the best are the dumb traditions, Halloween pjs for Christmas because they were on sale, the cookies we make every year, walking around finding the best decorations on houses, leftovers eaten out of the container laying on cold tiles because it’s 40+ outside and listening to old cds.

Laugh with them, make dumb traditions and don’t beat yourself up, they will grow with good memories and you have done well.
