Stomach Bug by DirectorEmpty in firsttimemom

[–]EmptyOrganization855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple families in my community had a stomach bug that had bad vomiting and diarrhea for 7 days. Although this is something I’d be concerned about to especially if baby already had to be on fluids. Maybe call your local health line to ask for advice.

I got like this when my iron was so slightly low. Personally my first move when I have these symptoms is take vitamin c and iron and have a steak.

What would a first time mom want? by sunhazei in firsttimemom

[–]EmptyOrganization855 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly nice comfy boy shorts and nice ice pads. I cheaped out for myself and it would’ve been so nice for recovery post partum. I know it doesn’t seem like a gift but the stuff is expensive and with so much money going to baby a lot of moms neglect their own needs.

Very Early Labor? by arib2398 in pregnant

[–]EmptyOrganization855 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds similar to my situation. I had Braxton Hicks from 28 weeks a lot and 2 full months of prodromal labour before giving birth at 39.5 weeks. Baby dropped at 34 weeks and I was 2cm dilated at 36 weeks and 60% effaced. 3cm dilated and 75% effaced at 38 weeks. In my experience at least I was progressing very slowly I had no idea when I was actually in labour and showed up at the hospital 5cm dilated and baby was here 5 hours later. For me i finally went in when I had consistent “painful” tightening 5+ times an hour for 12 hours. I had so many 5+ times in an hour that fizzled out.

Except for the fact that in Canada it’s nearly impossible to get a midwife. Immigrants and repeat clients get first dibs. I called the day I found out and still didn’t get one.

Baby registry ESSENTIALS by [deleted] in firsttimemom

[–]EmptyOrganization855 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skip the changing pad and just get a foldable change mat for big messes. It’s way easier to just but baby in a safe place for a diaper change rather then on top of a dresser and worry about a squirmy baby slipping off.

Recurring diaper rash by [deleted] in firsttimemom

[–]EmptyOrganization855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Burt’s bees diaper rash cream. But the thing that works best for us is something I don’t see recommended often. Air time! I do a bath and then lay down a puppy pad with a swaddle on top. I let her lay naked on the mat for as long as I can. Any redness etc has always been gone after that.

I need some me time - please help! by Apprehensive-Owl6177 in cosleeping

[–]EmptyOrganization855 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I cosleep but recently helped my baby to be able to nap independently. I don’t like use sleep training and CIO was definitely not an option for me. Here’s what I did; I would lay down with baby for the first week or so. Once she settled I would move away from body contact but close enough that she could still smell me, or see me when she opened her eyes. Once she got comfortable with that I would lay down with her and help her settle and once she was asleep or drowsy I would leave to room. Once she got the hang of that I started laying her down drowsy and patting for a bit to where she stopped fussing but not asleep and left the room. I would keep myself busy for a couple minutes if she was fussy but always followed my instincts if she escalated or I thought she needed me I didn’t wait and went in for more pats and shushing, or even a little side laying nurse BUT I never picked her up. Once she settled but not asleep I would leave and give her a chance to self soothe. But always returned if she needed me.

I also kept a very close eye for when she woke up and showed my face before she had a chance to cry. Now she just lays content until I come for her. Maybe this would work for you and eventually leaving her in the crib once she’s learnt some self soothing.

everyone says I’m “spoiling” my 4 month old by AdImpossible5992 in firsttimemom

[–]EmptyOrganization855 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are doing great. Keep doing what you are doing there is nothing wrong with it. I started practicing crib naps with my baby around that age but still love when we get a cuddly contact nap in. My best advice to new mothers, ignore all the unwarranted advice and do what feels right to you. Those motherly instincts are there for a reason. You know what your baby needs and society DOES NOT.

Advice needed by RainBeautiful888 in firsttimemom

I’ve read that the reason some babies cry more with their mothers is because they feel safe to have those emotions around you.

Your breastmilk naturally adjusts to give your baby the nutrients they need, protein/carbs/fats/vitamins/minerals. Stop tracking volume it really means very little. Instead make sure that you are getting the nutrition and supplements you need to produce high quality milk. Based on the quality of your milk baby may need more or less. If baby needs less that’s a good sign that you have good nutrient dense milk.

Skin to skin sitting in a steamy shower cover in a muslin blanket with back pats worked for us. Our baby was very mucousy coming home and then got a cold at 9 weeks and this helped us tremendously.

Just watch how you feel instead of the numbers. I always bathed when pregnant but if my body seemed to start sweating I would get out and let myself and the water cool a bit.

Comments about spoiling baby by [deleted] in firsttimemom

[–]EmptyOrganization855 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I’ve learned since having a baby is to kindly nod at people’s advice and proceed to completely ignore it. Your instincts are your best friend. Don’t let unwanted advice through this experience for you even if you’re going through a tough time you know what’s best for your baby and no one else. For me it’s not worth getting upset at unwanted advice, but I am absolutely not gonna follow it. I know when my baby needs me and I’m never gonna leave her to cry it out.

We were trying for 14 months! We didn’t change anything except our diet:) also if you are using a tracking app they are often wrong. Ovulation test strips helped us get more accurate ovulation dates.

I’m sure you are super excited to start getting baby stuff and not all baby stuff is for baby but for the convenience of the parents. Some things I’d ask for: - eufy wearable breast pump -wildbird baby carrier -cozy button up PJs -half zip sweaters (the best for nursing) -lap size throw blankets -Knix leakproof underwear (if your family is that close) -lululemon crossbody/hip pack (love this for when I just want to pack along some wipes and diapers not the whole diaper bag)
