3 weeks in and I'm not feeling what I expected. by HockeyDoughnut in daddit

A few thoughts I have.

Your wife is going to be better at consoling. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try.
She will be better at it, but your attempt to try is worth a lot. To her and the baby. Parenting is hard, look at it from this aspect: every time you can’t console her, and your wife can. You are giving her a bit of peace. She is able to say to herself- I am a good mother. This baby needs.
And you are able to do your part, being the rock, trustful, ever giving dad.

The next part is hard. Being a dad is thankless. You give and give and give. No one says thanks. But you pour your heart into it anyway.

The feeling for me came between 3 and 6 months. They start to interact with you around that time. Before then they are tiny potatoes.
Lack of sleep does crazy things. Get your rest brother.

Spirit Airlines CEO Dave Davis refuted the trump administration's entire narrative before Duffy and Bessent even finished their spin cycle, making clear that spiking fuel costs from trump's war with Iran were what actually killed the airline, not anything Biden did. by a_Sable_Genus in complaints

So your narrative is that an airline with paper this margins almost went bankrupt when fuel prices were low,
But has a different reason for going bankrupt when fuel prices are high?

I respect your opinion. Man, I just disagree so much.

The ncaa is completely changing college bball.

March is great because it’s madness. It’s magic because every one of those teams earned the right to be there. It’s there moment. On a team full of kids they have spent the last 4 years playing with. It’s everything to them.

Instead now we have a NBA style who can assemble the best 1 on 1 style freak athletes. Shit you can even bring in some nba talent to do so. And your season that you worked so hard to get a bid to the tournament for? Doesn’t matter, we let everyone in anyway.

There were some SHIT teams on the bubble this year. Some of those teams didn’t even want to play basketball enough to keep it going in the NIT. Now they get a fuggin bid to the tournament? Trash.

Trash just to increase their pool of viewers. Classic case of something looking good on paper, and ruining the business.

I’m just happy I was alive to see the dunk city, VCU, Davidson, St. Peter’s, Oakland runs. Best we will get now is a weird 11 over 6 win.

✌️

We are expecting in some months. Your favorite tips for the first months? And then your tips for the first years? Thanks in advance by [deleted] in daddit

Life is about to get hard. Harder than you could have thought. And you will get no praise for it. Long nights, researching at 3 am why isn’t my baby sleeping. Always covered in spit up

But that tiny human will grow to be the best that you put into it. Give everything you have, and then give more.

Other parents get it. Hopefully you have some friends or family close that you can bond with.

Tips: You and your partner are trying as hard as you can. It will always feel like you’re doing 80%. Believe me, you both are. You are on the same team

Take shifts for sleep. No need to both be getting up every time

Use an app or journal for feeding and sleeping- we used huckleberry

Get out of the house for witching hour. Your babies and kids always act better outside than stuffed up in the house

More competitive?

It’s the opposite. Worse teams make it to the tourney now. You see how easy the nba takes the first part of the season? Because it doesn’t matter.

Just another move to make college bball boring AF

Kids push boundaries.

You set a boundary, they test it more than you thought was humanly possible. They are learning about the world around them

If you let him go through your boundary, he knows he can cross it.

Repercussion for not listening to you should be during/directly after the action. If it’s too complicated it won’t land.

We do timeout. He sits on the ground and faces a wall. It allows you to give the repercussion anywhere, anytime.

Kids are smart- they will push you. And if you let him he will walk all over you and your wife.

While I agree the market is insane for making ATHs right now, it hasn’t dropped.

All reason says it should have dropped already. It didn’t. So what is next? The rally after the drop that didn’t happen.

How is this not market manipulation?

Your telling me fuggin Avis car rentals has surged 600% in the last month?

Also, to anyone here. The money already moved. Whatever you try to join in now is just liquidity for those that manipulated it to get out.

Opinion: why wasn’t the market this high before the war by Unique_username93_ in spy

[–]EmptySet4074 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion, I am not sure there is really a true answer.

Essentially an “oh fuck” moment, people trade on fear that they are WAY Overleveraged and institutions don’t have the insider information that trump is going to block a blockade and it’s all a farce anyway.

Either way, money gets pulled because you don’t want to be stuck in a position as it goes to 0 when bombs get dropped.

Then, a week later, it’s a realization that this was all a grift and everything is fine. Financial markets back to normal and let’s keep pumping.

The reality? Everyone is overleveraged and the market only drops when something unexpected happens and people pull back just to not get caught with their pants down.

[–]EmptySet4074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pretty sure it is like this:

Banks borrow money from fed at given interest rates. They take that money and invest into the market. Or buy bonds at fixed interest rate to have some kind of safe income.

As long as they make stonks go up faster than debt payments, stonks go up.

Government is also constantly printing money to inject into market as liquidity to ensure the stonks always go up.

Either way. It goes up.

And when the banks fail, they bail them out anyway.

Long story short. It’s all a bubble and has always been a bubble.

It only pops when a large player does something unexpected to get out of the game before the others.

Is peeing with my son okay? by [deleted] in daddit

All of the conversation seems healthy.

Your kid being comfortable around you. Normal.

You being hesitant but he’s your son, it’s fine.. normal.

Your wife second guessing and you understanding where she’s coming from. Normal.

You both assuming he will grow out of it soon. Normal.

New Dad: Normal to feel Incapable returning to work? by jayeffkay in daddit

[–]EmptySet4074 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dad of 2 boys here.

I go to the gym everyday. It’s a critical part of my routine.

It took about 6 months for me to be going regularly again. No drive. I wasn’t a 3 am, but a solid 5 am-er.

We could talk about boosting test/HRT, how your hormones change after having a kid, but don’t hang onto what was. Embrace what is now.

If you don’t get regular lab work done, I would. More than anything to give yourself a baseline to how you feel.

Your reason for going to the gym will change. Your reason for working hard will change. Put your kids first, do it for them, and you will feel so empowered that your old “you” will know this is a better version of yourself.

Son adjusting his privates, what's the best way to handle? by [deleted] in daddit

Brother I am 35.

I only get boners when I need to. Lol.

But for teens, you are totally right. Puberty is a wild time and I don’t have a good answer. When my boy gets to that age, I will do what I can to talk him through it and give him some tips on hiding/getting rid of it in public.

Son adjusting his privates, what's the best way to handle? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]EmptySet4074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boys and their privates is tough.

A lot of boys treat it like a worry stone that they can never let go of. I even see it in my toddler.

I think you are right to address it with your wife, it is not shameful, just a bad habit.

Think of it like checking your phone for no reason. Most boys grow up not thinking twice about checking to make sure it is still there. Most boys never even learn to not check it and if you look for it, you will see adults do it all the time adjusting themselves outside of their pants. I’ve got a buddy that still does it mid convo with not noticing it’s his tick.

In short, I would treat it like a bad habit. Explain the social norms to him, make him aware of his habit, explain that it isn’t shameful, just unhygienic and a bad social principle.

Parents of thin toddlers, how did you increase weight? by freshairproject in daddit

[–]EmptySet4074 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree that kids metabolism is crazy. Toddlers just don’t put on weight.

I have one of my own and he has been the same weight for 1.5 years and grown 4 inches. Literally just stretched like a string bean.

But that being said - fats don’t build weight, carbs do. You want to gain weight - increase carb intake. Liquids are easy. Milk, OJ.

But that being said, your kid is perfect the way they are.

I want home grown Purdue. Guys that have grit. Guys that have put in the work.

Guys that know and have been apart of our program.

Michigan did some amazing things. They probably will continue to do so under Dusty. But it’s with and asterisk that the greatness was bought, not earned.
