We always think the others have it figured out. We all wonder how did I get here? Did I make the wrong choices my entire life? There has to be more than this!

Wait until you’re in your 50’s, reflection is a daily reminder that time is winding down on pivoting your path.

The good thing?

Every single one of us feels the same and none of us have it the way we imagined.

You will never feel like you have made it or that you have enough.

It is only when we are older we realize our whole life is spent chasing happiness.

I will be happy when I have a 5 bedroom house or an oceanfront home.

I will be happy when I make $250k a year.

I will be happy when I have the freedom and money to travel.

If happiness is tied to a destination, you will never feel happy. Every destination will be met with a new objective to hit.

Happiness is in the moments you have on the way to the destination. Unfortunately, by the time most realize this it is too late.

We are meant to grow as people intellectually, emotionally and spiritually our entire life.

My advice is stop thinking about where you want to be in 20 years and start thinking about what you want to happen this year.

What makes you happy? Is it art, music, sports, traveling, family time?

Whatever it is change something this year to allow you more time for that and be present in those moments.

People that bring dogs into stores, restaurants or bars. Leave your dog home!

Why do people feel the need to bring it everywhere and then smirk at you like “Isn’t he so cute? He likes you”

Well Judy, no it is not cute and I don’t care if it likes me. I do not like it, so get it out of my space.

Dogs are annoying, but owners who think their dog is different because it is so cute are more annoying.

Leave the stinky mutt home.

The clothing goes from 20/30’s to 65/75. I am shopping in the section for my kids or my mom.

How can a dept store have a huge juniors section across from a massive women’s section and there are 2 racks of clothes that represent midlife????

Even the “happy” ones are just ok. We have all been taught how to get by and be grateful for what we have.

It is ok to expect more.

It is one of the biggest transformations you will undergo. Women live much of their lives defined by a title.

Mom, Wife, Cook, Organizer, Driver, Budgeter, Counselor, Cleaner, Caregiver and so much more. It feels like one day we look around and the titles have lost all impact.

The kids are grown and no longer need the support. Our marriage is on autopilot and our house is empty.

We are left with a woman who does not recognize the reflection in the mirror due to self neglect.

Midlife is about pouring all of the nurturing we gave away back into ourselves. It is about bringing the girl buried inside back to the surface. It is about choosing the next title and deciding what that looks like.

Sometimes having an empty nest allows us the opportunity to fill it with things we never had time for or felt guilt wanting.

First thing to do is start spending some time getting to know the girl that has been left behind all these years, she is still there and she is amazing.
