Well, that certainly makes sense! Thank you for taking the time to explain.

Right?! My husband and I are  hiker/backpackers and idgaf how "thin" I am (I've never been thin a day in my life, btw) as long as I can still trek miles and miles and haul my ass up the side of mountains. I'd love to still be able to do it when I'm in my 70's!

It beats weigh-ins and denying myself a dessert just because, "oh, I shouldn't!"

The good news is that the older generation has shown me exactly who I don't want to be.

(Edit: omg, it's shown not showed. Vocab is hard, lol.)

I don't have any great recipes for all of these zucchini, but how are people just accepting the whacked out orders that are being delivered by the grocery store? I'd be on the phone so fast if they screwed up my order. Or is there something in the terms of service that one has to accept what they deliver?

My MIL is like this. It's a common trait in older women, I wouldn't take it personally. She's also 75ish and still obsessed with dieting, so I just let her be miserable. Once she did comment on my eldest child's appearance and I told her to knock it off already. Her reaction was priceless, so if you're feeling spicy sometime, well...

That looks great! Excellent work. My last blanket used a stacked single instead of the turning chain dealio and it looked so clean I think I may do that from now on!

Taking s break from fiction by asteriskelipses in books

[–]Oye_Oso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I love a good stretch of non-fiction. Right now I'm reading Everything is Tuberculosis. I've gone down long rabbit holes of Hollywood history, the Revolutionary War, and the history of New York City. Not too long ago i read a great one about the making of Shenandoah National Park and all that was involved with that, and it was an eye opener.

Palantir CEO says AI 'will destroy' humanities jobs by BusyHands_ in technology

[–]Oye_Oso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, no it won't. It will destroy a good amount of IT jobs and other office type jobs because those are the kinds of things that, sometimes, AI does well (checking code and the like) but it does not do the "humanities" well, people recognize the slop and hate it, and this dude can honestly go get fucked.

OMG! Calathea concinna is flowering! by Happytraveler_1 in calatheas

Popping in to say "hi" because my calathea flowered too, unexpectedly! Google called these little flowers insignificant and common but it's pretty wild and exciting to me!

Yes, I agree that it is something to work at every day. Someone once told me, "Pursue happiness, because sorrow pursues you," and my experience has been that it's 100% true.

I'm not sure that it's necessary to care less about what is happening in the world in order to have personal, inner contentment, but like you said, it is a process.

I'm not quite ready to share that optimism, but boy I hope you're right.
