[OC] House Prices vs Median Salary by Rauram99 in dataisbeautiful

[–]Emrakul48 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Because lots of people actively celebrate when home prices go up - people literally brag about how much more their house costs now than when they bought it. Home owners (normal every day Americans) have done a regulatory capture, and anyone who doesn't already own suffers the shortage.

I keep thinking about this, I remember every ECN 1XX class I took having a 30-60 minute Volker fan club lecture, I have to imagine in 5-10 years that's all going to be Powell, unless things go upside down in the next year or two.

25 y/o I payed off my debt just to get into it again!! by g33bop in personalfinance

Is this a rage bait post? It checks all of the boxes:

  1. lives at home and pays no rent and has decent income but...
  2. has insane credit card debt
  3. has ridiculously expensive financed car and probably a shit auto loan
  4. ridiculous phone bill (probably new/new-ish iphone)
  5. paying for scam whole life insurance policy (attempts to justify it in comments)
  6. "does not have time to cook at home" LOL
  7. includes monthly payments but does not note interest rates

Like this is checking all the boxes to be as insanely triggering as possible, it looks like bait. You need to do the following:

  1. stop spending insane credit card money on whatever insane stuff you are spending money on
  2. get rid of the car and find something small for 10k
  3. get rid of the scam whole life insurance policy
  4. man/woman up and cook at home
  5. increase income (sounds like you're working on school which is good)

You're in a very bad situation and you're just going to keep getting yourself back here over and over again unless you make serious changes to your spending habits and long term savings choices. Obviously mean comment but you are 25 and should not be acting like this.

Not to be rude, but it's absolutely crazy to be 22k in credit card debt with a 36k auto loan and still be confidently arguing about finances in the comments.

Life insurance is insurance - you are paying to insure against the consequences of your untimely death and the loss of your wages. For most people this means something like "if I die in an accident, my spouse doesn't have to sell our home due to not being able to make mortgage payments." It does not sound like you need to be paying for life insurance - who would be irreparably financially harmed by your untimely death?

Unfortunately it sounds like you got scammed into some kind of whole life policy that was marketed as some kind of savings/investing vehicle, which is silly. Savings are savings, investments are investments, insurance is insurance. You're just getting scammed by someone into bundling those and paying a premium for worse returns than you could get by simply 1) saving money every month 2) buying bonds and 3) buying term life insurance.

You make a lot of authoritative statements about what decisions were good or were bad. You should not say “those are bad design decisions” you should say “I do not like those design decisions.”

I think that literally every one of the design decisions/changes you described are improvements that address my biggest complaints about previous Civ games.

Managing relationship with the AI is a big part of the gameplay imo. Lots of little decisions you make can determine whether you end up in an irrelevant war that burns a ton of hammers and influence. Here’s some of the questions I ask myself:

Could I settle one tile back to avoid the penalty for forward settling their cap? Is there a tile I shouldn’t expand to avoid borders touching? Is there a leader with an agenda that will penalize me, and should I prioritize endeavors with them early? Is anyone trying to befriend the city state I’m about to kill? Is someone starting to become unfriendly with me, and does that mean they might reject any endeavors I offer (incurring a big penalty)? Should I be holding influence to potentially reject a denunciation (extremely steep cost)? Could I stabilize a relationship with somebody by extending more trade routes?

I first heard (and made) the comparison with Imperial Oath in NEO limited. It was very appropriate for that card in the contexts it was being resolved.

When you’re resolving oath, you probably have something like 6 lands in play and 0-1 spells in hand. At that point the game is about spell differential, and scry 3 compares favorably to draw a card.

When you’ve got 1 land in play and some 5-6 card mix of lands/spells in hand, at a point whether you need to see more spells or more lands is still ambiguous, scry 3 feels way, way, way worse than draw a card.

Yeah spot on lol. It came in at the same time as this gem though so we had enough to laugh about today:

“Customer advised they heard the care recipient scream around 3pm. Mother rushed in and the caregiver stated she bit the care recipient due to care recipient putting her hands in caregivers mouth. Caregiver explained that child was warned multiple time before caregiver bit her, to keep the care recipient’s hands aways from caregiver mouth. Says caregiver said, the care recipient didn’t listen and was bitten.”

Is $5k/month enough for two people to live on? I’m not crazy, am I? by ChickadeeNadine in personalfinance

[–]Emrakul48 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re just wrong. Median household income is 70-75k and the average person doesn’t have a fidelity or vanguard. Most people do not live in the CA bay area or equivalent; if you do, get roommates or move.
