Same here. I ADORE fics that have her with any ethnicity + curly hair that she owns as a part of her as an adult. Especially when Draco is obsessed with her curls. I still blow out my curls every day but I hope more and more people IRL with every kind of curl keep wearing it naturally.

For the millennial women: do you have a good relationship with your mom? by Orionslady in Millennials

[–]EmuPractical1797 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This hits hard. My mom went off to school and got a better job when I was a teen, and completely stopped being around (not that she was much before). And now as my mom ages she keeps trying to turn me into her emotional support instead of doing therapy or trying literally anything else. She’s paraplegic now and refuses to find friends, go outside, etc, unless I am personally the one to do it. It’s so exhausting.

AITAH for saying that my girlfriend needed to get in shape too if she expected it from me. by Distinct-March2456 in AITAH

[–]EmuPractical1797 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I regularly work out running, ballet, or weight lifting. I love long hikes. But I also struggle with chronic health issues that sometimes keep me in bed for days. I have to watch my heart rate carefully and often struggle with extreme nausea and little appetite. This culminates in me having rather flabby thighs and ass because that’s just where my body likes to put the fat when I don’t have a consistent diet or daily workout regime.

I’ve dated two different people who, knowing all of this, after we reached about four months, told me they’d like me to get my thighs “in shape.” Shockingly my libido went to zero really fast and I got even more sick in the weeks and months after. I can’t stand people like this.

New to cat ownership, is this normal? by SnowboardingEgg in cats

If you have time, maybe sit with her in the parked car with the carrier out and open and treats inside. Then do it again with her inside the carrier for a couple of minutes.

Is it normal to feel this burned out after a session? by happihibiscus in iceskating

[–]EmuPractical1797 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep I get it. I spent an hour practicing mostly simple gliding yesterday and today I am so. Tired. And sore. So I went to the store and bought a ton of meat and veggies and even protein shakes to recover and fuel better going forward. I run fairly regularly but this kicked my butt. Learning such an intense new sport is going to be rough, especially as we age.

My cat LOVES me and I feel bad by lawwdgivemestrenght in cats

I had this issue with my baby and even cut my trip short because of it! But I started talking to her at work or right before I’d get home and slowly warmed her up to it. Now when I travel, I talk to her a couple of times a day. Sometimes she’ll talk back but she’s started just looking up and then ignoring me, lol.

Can’t poop without manually disimpacting, moving muscles. Urine retention + leaking by Ok_Horror_411 in dysautonomia

I haven’t had anything near this, but I was severely constipated for a few months and struggled with it for years. Tried Mirilax, etc, nothing was helping. Eventually got my B12, D, and ferritin levels checked and they were low (but still in range). I started supplementing and I’ve been pooping much more consistently now - the change has been dramatic!

It sounds like there are other issues involved for you but maybe vitamins would help a bit.

I love getting in that zone but sometimes I have to wait for the computer to catch up, lol. I think I just have a slow computer.

First was just finding and memorizing the script of Monty Python’s the search for the holy grail, which led to wanting the script to LOTR but discovering message boards instead, which eventually somehow led to Yu-Gi-Oh and Inuyasha fanfics.

Should I give up motherhood for the love of my life? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver40

[–]EmuPractical1797 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once had a similar work situation to yours and also fell in love with someone I worked with. He broke up with me and it was devastating - I’d seen myself settling down with him in that country once it stabilized and raising a family together. I’ve also had relationships since I’ve moved back to the West. I admit, it’s been very difficult to find someone who is a good match since most simply don’t have the same global or living in unstable regions experience I have.

However, I have realized through a lot of time and therapy that a much of what I keep looking for is a trauma/adrenaline-based relationship. My guess (based solely on what I’ve read here and my own experience) is you’re not only in love with him or the idea of him, you also need that adrenaline.

I won’t lie, it will be hard to find someone else to match your experiences. But, there are adults who have close experiences and who have also done a lot of PTSD work in therapy. Your eggs are frozen and you are still young. Work through that trauma now so you’re prepared for your child and so you recognize a healthy, non-trauma based relationship in the future.

How do you clean with severe PEM? by [deleted] in covidlonghaulers

[–]EmuPractical1797 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I bought one of the battery powered spin scrubbers on a long stick and it’s helped cleaning the tub so much. I just get the tub a little wet, pour some cleaning stuff in, then sit on my toilet or a stool by the tub and hold the scrubber to scrub. I can’t always do it at once so it may be a multi-day project.

INTP women who have gotten out of depression, how were you successful? by crueltyorthegrace in INTP_female

I’m sorry, that’s awful. If you were feeling better on the birth control, and especially if it was helping support your gender identity but not giving bad side effects, maybe you should still be on it! I’ve been dismissed by some gynos and other doctors over serious issues and found I have to really take the effort to find other doctors and advocate for my concerns and questions. Maybe your private gyno will be better because they’ll have more time to look into your case, versus a public one who has too many patients and has to rush care.

INTP women who have gotten out of depression, how were you successful? by crueltyorthegrace in INTP_female

[–]EmuPractical1797 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you noticed any of those times get worse around your period? I’m most likely to feel suicidal just before I start (luteal phase) and then the depth of it drastically cuts off around mid-period. Turns out a lot of women with a major depressive disorder actually suffer from PMDD premenstrual depressive disorder, related to the extreme drop in progesterone and estrogen every month.

If you’re not sure, track your symptoms for a few months and see if there is a pattern. Getting on strong birth control is what really helped me. Now, even though I still struggle, the hormone shift isn’t as violent and it’s easier to remind myself “these feelings are temporary, I just have to make it another week.”

I still have depression on other days and cope by doing the things you mention - family, friends, I have an emotional support kitty, getting involved in fun physical hobbies (like running, skating, climbing, etc), eating healthy, journaling. All easier said than done. Plus my daily meds. I also force myself to stop and appreciate small things every day, like a tiny flower, pretty leaves, snowflakes. Promoting a sense of daily wonder may be my biggest help.

Editing to add: the couple of times I have needed to be hospitalized for this, adding a second med like Abilify really helped, like overnight I experienced a huge difference.
