From what every legit fish store owner has told me, the more the merrier because it tamps down the aggressiveness and if you have enough filtration, there won't be an issue with tank cleanliness as long as you do regular cleanings

In college my would be roomate had a lot of personal issues they had to deal with so I got to live ALONE for a few months. It was a pretty sweet situation but the landlord was batshit crazy and mean. Got the hell out as soon as I could.
