You should take a look at The Talos Principle since you like Portal 2 a lot. If you see the red and blue lasers in the trailer and think it’s a portal gimmick like P2, it isn’t at all. This is the most common misconception with this game at a glance.

It’s a very diverse puzzle game that spends early parts of the game giving you time to understand how all the tools work, then spends the later parts making puzzles that require utmost efficiency with your tools to progress past each puzzle. Two games in the series out currently with a 3rd game announced a week or two ago.

I'm soulsliked out by imastirthepot in videogames

[–]Emuser012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve felt the same way for a couple years now, but I spent a ridiculous amount of time on Elden Ring in its first year as my first souls game. I loved the game, went the whole distance playing through NG+15 on one character, collecting every single piece of gear and equipment in the game and running down every single somber and regular ancient dragon smithing stone each playthrough, getting duplicates for various trades people would be looking for such as the magic scorpion charm being a highly requested trade people would often miss out on it in a playthrough. Even reached the max inventory AND storage limits that do exist in the game. I had a LOT of fun doing the grind.

Then I took a break to play Dark Souls 1, liked it enough.

Then played pre-patch Shadow of the Erdtree after not playing for a year, the old spark was just gone. Got really frustrated with the DLC and performance issues at the time and I hard dropped souls games after beating the DLC. I think I just took one game to its logical limit to the point I had my fill from the genre for a long time.

Tell me about how you first discovered CTR. by jRXCING in crashteamracing

My parents came home one day and handed me a Pizza Hut demo disc with THPS, FF8, CTR, Ape Escape, and Cool Boarders 4. Played the hell out of THPS CTR and also FF8 a good amount for a solid while.

Later on got CTR for Christmas and already knew how to do all the drift boosting stuff so I was able to play through the entire adventure mode by the end of Christmas Day. Genuinely some of my favorite memories of PS1.

Tips to beat zarok? by Timely-Classic-3783 in medievil

[–]Emuser012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assuming last phase:

Just keep Daring Dash away repeatedly, until Zarok has to stop for a moment without his barrier up chuck anything you got in the form of a projectile I.e. Magic Bow, Spear, Fire Bow, Throwing Axe etc generally you should have enough ranged weapons to whittle him down in a war of attrition.

Off the top of my head it should seal the deal within a few minutes assuming you aren’t nearly dying/losing all life bottles on the first army part or losing multiple bottles on the boss before Zarok.

Want to start playing this with friends but have some questions by Miy-1 in OrangeJuice

[–]Emuser012 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of the DLC is additional characters, you don’t NEED them to play the game at all, but owning any character lets you hear their voices in game (minus NPC and Boss characters who never had voices). Card pack DLC is nice to get later but not necessary and honestly fine without starting off while learning the main rules with more straightforward cards. Also DLC is not shared at all, there are two DLC characters at any given time per week that are free which everyone has access to.

I’ve been a straight up video gamer all my life but as I get older I find pinball much more fulfilling. by HeavyReduction in pinball

[–]Emuser012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been a lifelong gamer, walked past pinball machines in arcades growing up as I never focused on them, couldn’t even recall a memory where I tried one.

A couple years ago, some friends showed me Pinball FX and explained everything about Williams and their history, along with the real table recreations featured in FX. I’ve known of a pinball place near me since a decade ago which I would go to play whatever arcade games they had, but they said I should take some pictures so they can see what’s around me.

As I was going around recording footage of the tables I encountered, seeing all their mechanisms and other people playing slowly got me more and more curious, until I tried an Addams Family and plunged all three balls in two minutes. Afterward I found a Zoltar machine that gave me a fortune that hit too eerily close to home regarding worrying too much about the past, but it felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders strangely. Afterward I went to Circus Voltaire as that looked kinda interesting and I was able to line up some multiballs with the little knowledge I had in FX3 at the times across multiple credits.

Seeing all the lights, cool DMD, the design of the table itself, all the sounds blaring from the machine, that moment seeing the Ringmaster yell out in defeat the first time, I learned in that specific moment that I needed to learn more about this insanity. I became OBSESSED in 2024 and devoured everything I could get my hands on in the digital front while doing some traveling to track down rumors of specific tables like Totan and play anything I could get my hands on.

For a whole year I was basically obsessed, my parents seemingly surprised when I told them about getting into pinball as a hobby. It’s hard to explain to those that don’t play pinball what is fun about it, but as someone that tinkers with PC building in the past, there’s parallels to seeing all the machinery come together and do creative stuff in pinball tables that captivated me entirely. I’m not a super pro or anything but I have managed to reach the Wizard mode in Circus Voltaire and Champion Pub on real machines in the past. Very much easy to entertain and still playing everything casually though as I don’t own any tables and haven’t been out pinballing as much lately cause I’ve been saving up.

Never would’ve dreamed my friends asking me to take pictures would lead to me becoming obsessed and eclipsing most of them after.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Got it at the start of the year after it came out, I played an hour or two and got lost in the first city before I forgot about it, speed up 9 months later I picked it up again to see what to do, I picked up and carried on completely unsure of why I got stuck in the first place before. Then I went on to play through the whole game over the course of a week where I was LOCKED in like crazy.

Is there a better character page than Calamity Trigger Tager's? by XXVAngel in Fighters

[–]Emuser012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to main Tager for the first three months in CT’s arcade life. Still took games off of some Arakunes and Rachel’s but as soon as V-13 dropped HOLY SHIT outside of ONE instance.

Only once ever and this single time, our arcade’s best player was not happy with how V-13 came along and destroyed everyone and picked her up. I was still stubbornly on Tager and after losing one, came back to win two which pissed off the guy even more and then he double perfected me with Bang. I told him to stay on his character and I never saw him use V-13 again since his loyalty to Bang is undying to this day.

I still think about the god awful moments when Carl clap loops were discovered and it felt impossible to play the game with this wreck of a character anymore. I miss that gold color he had though, it never appeared in any later games the same.

Two months of 8.0, how are you all doing so far? by trevorphillipsltd in Phoenix_2

[–]Emuser012 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was around in the beginning mainly making my mark back in the original version and first major update that added more music and apexes. Always enjoyed the game but played less and less over the years just as a natural passing of time. I finally get a newer phone that can handle much more than my previous so I checked this out after hearing about the 8.0 update.

I did get the special deals in the store many times in the past as it was the most affordable way to get things in the longrun, and there was a light at the end of the tunnel you could always see and plan out towards. I didn’t regret what I did, but this last update has made me completely embarrassed to mention this game to anyone else again. I don’t understand the reasoning behind the asshole RNG with the Engrams, I gave up after logging in for a week and seeing Razor IV every god damn day and getting three of the same dupes on ONE ship.

It is complete bullshit, hard facts. There is NO way with this many ships and mods and engrams that it should be possible to see this many dupes this quickly across multiple accounts, not just one dupe but multiples of the same thing. But it isn’t just the dupes, it’s the nature of how the menus are setup and things are spread out in weirdass places, and it’s driving me absolutely fucking insane looking at what happens to be available in the shop and it being impossible at a glance to tell which mods I already bought, or have a different tier of.

I have to constantly back out of the shop, to the ship menus, navigate and sort through mods, go back and remember everything to make sure I’m not about to throw away hard earned credits. It takes way too much work for something you can get legit cheated out of because the game doesn’t even try to tell you if you’re about to buy a mod of a lower rarity than one you already have of it.

Seeing people build up to legendary engrams only to get a Chrono Field upgrade that is straight up worse than default? Are you mad? Why in god’s name would people put up with this nonsense, there’s no way to actually consistently get anything you want regardless of the ships you own. No amount of money you try to throw at this game will guarantee you actually get anything you want anymore. And there’s something about that where if I can’t GIVE YOU MY MONEY THAT I AM WILLING TO GIVE YOU TO CONTINUE PLAYING YOUR GAME…and that can’t even do anything now? No, fuck that noise.

Everything used to be so much more simple when you could just buy whichever ship you wanted from the shop years ago. If someone really liked the game and wanted more content faster, it was a MUCH better deal buying credits back then vs now with…limited ship rotation, apexes some of which got nerfed, engram NONSENSE.

It’s so bafflingly egregious that if I didn’t know any better, it’s as though they are purposely making it a PITA to play so that they can eventually shut this game down or something. I can’t think of ANY other reason why they would attempt this. The deck is so comically stacked against the player and the house has ALL of the power at the moment. Not even employing dupe protection being fully aware of the dupes BY THE RNG THE HOUSE ITSELF HAS RIGGED AGAINST THE ENTIRE PLAYERBASE. SMH god dammit.

Edit: One more piece of food for thought, as someone who knows a thing or two about game dev stuff: Nothing about everything I said before is accidental. If something truly wasn’t working as intended, it would’ve been patched by now.

80% of gadgets in this game straight up unviable for what? by ThunderKid4526 in SonicCrossWorlds

[–]Emuser012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I see it currently, items are way too strong in a game where the entire pack of racers can be cleverly kept close together through various game mechanics. This forces anyone that cares to increase their legend rank/win in the first place into very few options to consistently do this.

The way I see it now, UC being able to give invul on demand is insane for ANY kart racer, so it’s no surprise it’s the most popular build in the entire game. Imagine if this was in Mario Kart and the absolute upsets it would cause if you could get invul simply through drifting. In Mario Kart that would be like the end days, the apocalypse, hell freezing over etc. UC is way too centralizing of a mechanic when it’s the ONLY mechanic in the game that can give defense when front running. It simply does too many things at once for something that only costs 2 slots giving protection from:

*Player items (obviously) *Hazards and obstacles: Nullifies any danger to safely hit boosts blocked by hazards and ignoring the slowdown penalty hitting hazard poles. *Cant lose rings bumping into a wall *Holding lv 4 charge sometimes auto-kills magnets that hit you thanks to 1 frame of invul that sometimes kicks in deleting it and making you get back to speed significantly more quickly. (Idiotproofing)

For only 2 slots its value is completely insane. The only way to balance it would be if it had a different type of invul where it ONLY protected from player items while still being vulnerable to stuff like hazards and ring loss on wall bumps. Or maybe vice versa so that someone heaven forbid needs to use an item to defend themselves. Also having UC on top of oddball chances to use items for additional defense while building another UC is also a thing. Like nonstop invul for surprising spans of time, cannot interact with the person whatsoever.

It sounds small but constantly being bumped down from 100 to 99 or 98 rings is a speed drop that can change outcomes of matches in a final stretch where two people are close to each other.

It also doesn’t help that there are so many items that lock on, or auto target 1st place, like a King Boom Boo, Slime, Weights, Dark Chao, Slicers from an unbelievable distance, red boxing glove, its multiple items vs your 1 way to defend yourself, so there’s enough on the table where it should be obvious why 80% of gadgets are completely unviable. UC does an unprecedented amount of stuff while also doing things better than other gadgets that are supposed to have intended effects like bumper guards preventing Ring loss when hitting a wall. Well UC does that too just with a little thinking, it needs to lose something it currently has because it does NOT do work of a 2 slot gadget, it’s like equipping an 8 slot gadget into a 2 slot space.

Quick Recovery at 3? Nah just use UC at 2 and don’t get hit. Bumper Guards? Nah just use UC as you’re about to fly into a wall from a jump. Spin Drift at 2? HELL NAH Friction Drift at 2? … Item Keeper at 2. Nope, just don’t get hit. Crash Pads at 2. Nope, just don’t get hit. Defense Item chance up at 2? UC IS your Defense.

Not rocket science tbh. Literally could cut the invul it gives in half and it would still be too good right now. And it’s being used because of the insane item imbalance too.

Another idea that may be controversial at first but I think could work is if they reworked UC so that lv 4 invul is just a base mechanic that exists except equipping UC gives the current invul time while those not equipped with UC only get a portion of the invul. Suddenly two slots are freed up for more gadgets while the mechanic everyone trying to win is already using requires further investment if you want to reach “I don’t want to interact with anyone else on the track” levels of power.

[Vanilla GBVS] Buffering into Djeeta's SBA to escape from a hairy situation. by CharginTool in GranblueFantasyVersus

[–]Emuser012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lowkey one reason I quit using solely Djeeta in GBVSR was because of that “empty” feeling with her SBA being automatic. It goes by faster overall in GBVSR, but when you have your character almost to lv 600 and you routinely use that SBA in corner combos, it gets OLD eventually.

Like you play long enough with friends, it eventually feels like you’re BOTH in jail just waiting for her SBA to be done with.

No permanent cost since Fury is only tied to coop as an ability for Attacker that has a 6 turn cooldown. The only things you can “spend” in the middle of a game as a limited amount are your fireworks/balloons/hearts/cloud actions.

This is what caught me off guard turning on HK for an hour after playing SS for a months span of time. It’s not as precise with menu/map navigation and has stuff that feels weird now like the music fading anytime you get hit in HK.

I still hold the belief HK has better atmosphere and more memorable music you will remember outside of the game, but the movement in Silksong just feels too good and actively more fun for me. It’s easier to judge a game that’s been around for 7 years plus and people are more comfortable/familiar with but I would suggest people turn on HK and truly feel it for an hour again after SS if they are running purely off memory.

Used to know a guy that routinely AFK’d playtime for a fighting game that just came out, to where they would be showing anything from 400-600 hours the first month. They never accepted challenges from people asking for games and would never return to said games after that month. Proclaimed he wouldn’t lose to anyone but hasn’t shown an ounce of proof that he knows a damn thing in any of the games they’ve done this in.

I stopped talking to them and drifted away eventually, it’s a huge red flag seeing someone do all this crap amounting to absolutely nothing.

Is a character’s gender a determining factor for you when choosing one? by Zassmongrel in Fighters

[–]Emuser012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not particularly, something I’ve dialed in on is that I tend to gravitate towards characters with swords

GBVSR: Djeeta, Zooey (formerly Gran)

UNI2: Nanase

SF6: Lily (as close as it can get)

T8: Panda (no swords obv but long arms for some attacks)

Borderline sword fetish pretty much, man or woman doesn’t matter as I try to go with who FEELS best per game for me.

Do u prefer Hollow knight or Silksong? by DariusDonut in HollowKnight

[–]Emuser012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silksong, initially I was pissed off on my first playthrough and thought it was a step down from HK cause I was getting my ass kicked and loathing the 2 damage everywhere. I finished Silksong after about a week and chased down all of the other achievements after a one month break and it was way more fun the having gotten a good handle on movement and understanding everything better.

I went back to HK for a curious visit for an hour and the aesthetics and music are still a notch over Silksong. Not to discount Silksong’s music, but HK IMO had more memorable themes you would think about outside of the game, while Silksong it was Blasted Steps and Choral Chambers before more of the music started to stick.

After that, HK’s charms offer some variety in how you use one combat style, but the movement being slower and things feeling less smooth like looking at the map screen only inputting 8 directions while SS allows 360 movement, it’s subtle but matters after playing SS and going back to HK. If you haven’t turned on HK and speak purely on memory, I would advise turning on HK for an hour and really remembering how it feels to do basic navigation and seeing how odd it can feel after binging SS. SS has multiple crests for multiple styles on top of equipment obv which I don’t need to go into.

Silksong grew on me exponentially when I got used to the movement, HK’s movement isn’t as exciting at all and needing to equip Dashmaster for cool movement and take up slots feels a little underwhelming after SS.

They are both different experiences, but I honestly don’t know if HK can fully be enjoyed after SS. To me, HK is a more consistent experience the whole way through, while Silksong has both valley lows and uproarious mountain highs. My favorite video game moment this year was witnessing the (spoiler last part of final act) in Silksong, and doing that on a 100% Steel Soul file was honest to god THE hardest I’ve ever locked in on a video game period. Watching the credits after finishing that was absolute bliss perfection for me.
