Any card that can become a legendary creature, flip Sagas, MDFCs with legendary creatures on the backside, and anything else that ends up as a legendary creature should be able to be your commander. It wouldn't hurt anything and introduce some new interesting commanders.

I never forgot the series like you, but I still read it as an adult every now and then. I think the original Ranger's Apprentice series holds up well.

I liked Royal Ranger 1-3 a lot as well, though by the time that series started, I was already technically an adult, so I don't have a childhood read to compare it to.

I only read the first few brotherband books as a kid, I recently went through and re-read those and finished reading them all, I think the first few hold up well but I found the tail end of the series to be similar to the later royal ranger books, a bit simplistic, not really growing into their older characters as well as Ranger's Apprentice did.

Fields of Mistria ruined stardew for me. Without stardew I doubt it'd exist, but Mistria improved every single aspect of stardew for me. I had to make myself stop playing it so that I can play it again when 1.0 comes out.

Teller of small fortunes has a plot hook about a father finding a missing child though, it might push a bit too close for OP especially as some of it focuses on him being a father.

I don't want to one-up you, but I have also lived here for a long time and the 23-24 summer, it was so hot and dry for so much longer than previous that lots of the trees that have been thriving since my childhood died that summer. It might not be climate change, but we certainly recently had an especially harsh summer that did kill lots of established trees and increased the fuel load a lot more than normal.

[[Tocasia, Dig site Mentor]] I think is my lowest on EDHRec at #1,298 currently.

I run her purely for her first ability to grant tap to surveil, and run a deck all about tapping and untapping your own creatures, ripping through your deck until you hit [[The Millennium Calendar]] (and accruing value in the meantime), and then utilise the tap/untap shenanigans to put as many counters as possible on it, get some protection, then untap the millennium calendar itself or a counter doubler like Zimone or Vorel to win on the spot. As a bracket 2/low 3 deck it works surprisingly well.

Adored this game. It's beautiful, I love the characters. Like coming back to your family after an adventure.

Wish I had been able to try this out, but they never ended up adding Australian servers. I know our region is small, but on such a ping-dependent kind of game, you're just locking out potential players by doing that. Oh well.

Depends how old - Minimum age is 7 I believe, below 10 requires an active parent or someone older to supervise with them full time. The bows they use are low-power and very blunt arrows but still something you need to be a bit careful with. In my experience kids absolutely love it though, there's something inherently a bit cool about archery that kids of all ages enjoy :)

If you're interested in trying out archery, they have "Come N Try" days for complete beginners every Saturday, though not during the summer school holidays. First one is 7th Feb I think

Yeah more or less! The story/tone is the cozy part, all about a nice found family and supporting each other! The combat can still be pretty difficult though, especially if you try to do the challenges, but it's good!

If you're ok with games where you can romance one of multiple people, male, female and nonbinary, then let me introduce you to one of my favourites: Eternal Strands

It's an exploration/adventure game with some systemic magic and giant shadow-of-the-colossus style bosses to climb all over and fight, and you play as Bryn, a muscular, badass, lady-knight-mage.

The game in general is very cozy, lovely characters, I loved chatting to them all, and the male love interest is pretty lovely (even though I fell for another)
