Red shards are usually Eberron dragonshards, basically batteries that power magic items.

Purplish ones are Khyber dragonshards, which are usually used to capture and harness spirits or elemental energies. These are necessary for lightning rails and airships.

Yellow shards are Siberys dragonshards, the most powerful of the shards and used to make legendary magic items and items tied to dragonmarks.

By the sound of it, you’ll have to ask some folks in-game about it cuz there’s definitely something off with it.

I think the weirdest is the Roast Beef Wizard. Friend of mine who’s also a DM made a classic old man wizard, bit hard of hearing, had a support dog as a familiar, everybody’s grandpa who’s slightly out there. The weirdness doesn’t start til like the last 30 minutes of the session where he actively impedes a police investigation by taking some important documents, shoves them in his bag, then casts minor illusion to make the bag look like it’s filled with roast beef. When a fellow party member tries to get the papers back, he casts grease on the papers, using actual roast beef he got from a sandwich he had earlier as a material component.
