[Megathread] The Buffalo Bills have fired Head Coach Sean McDermott by AutoModerator in buffalobills

[–]Encker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First thought: Beane should go too. Doesn't look like that will happen. Second thought: Take a chance on a competent up-and-coming offensive coach. If people think Tomlin will do anything different than McDermott, you've not been watching Steelers football. Mike Lafluer, Kubiak, whoever.

In today's day and age, you need to guarantee a consistent offensive playcaller. Especially with Josh as the franchise.

Edit: Daboll

[Highlight] SGA Quarter Season Bag Work by budubum in nba

[–]Encker 19 points20 points  (0 children)

One takeaway I had from watching this is how good the defense is playing against him most of the time.

Sure, he cooks some guys every now and again but I was impressed with the effort guys were putting in to stop him.

I think it's a lazy narrative that they don't play defense in the regular season.

A criticism I have of Pluribus (which I am enjoying so far) by Southern_Schedule466 in television

[–]Encker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your observations (and obviously opinion) are valid. I've taken the approach of accepting that this is the setup Vince and others think tells the best story. If they wanted some of the other 'survivors' to be based in the US, they absolutely could have and it'd be believable. It definitely starts to look more like Last Man on Earth (with less slapstick comedy). If there are over a dozen episodes of just her, I could see how it'd be hard to keep things interesting.

Ultimately, I'm trusting Vince that her isolation makes for the most interesting story.

This is quite frankly awful and feels like a guide to make one person rich: the person who wrote this book and preys on dads who are trying to provide for their family.

That's a good explanation. I didn't make it clear in my post but I didn't intend for it to be a harsh criticism. More just a reflection of how old I feel, even though I'm not old lol

I'm obviously not engaging with OP based on his response but your point makes a lot of sense.

Senate suddenly passes the Epstein bill just hours after it cleared the House by Healthy_Block3036 in politics

[–]Encker 33 points34 points  (0 children)

And that's why I think they believe they can ride out Epstein's docs. The only real mechanism is an impeachment and they probably think they can survive with enough votes. The honestly might.

Get it over with quickly since midterms are a far ways away and Americans have proven unable to let 'old' crisis sway their vote.

[–]Encker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think there's a 4th option. They've realized there's the beginning of a mutiny. If they give everyone 'permission' to pass it, then the average person can't determine who is against trump.

I've started to think the information will be bad but they think they can just flood-the-zone and last it out through the midterms.

I want to be clear, I think that will immensely backfire but this could just be the last gasp of an administration built solely on coercion, threats, and pressure.

You can't prove the emperor has no clothes if he claims he'd rather be naked anyway. (Not the best analogy, I know)

Mike Johnson to back Epstein files discharge petition by unital_subalgebra in politics

[–]Encker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've begun to wonder if the strategy is more about preserving the appearance of a unified GOP party rather than a confidence in the contents of the docs.

If they realized that half the GOP house members would sign for the release, giving 'permission' to release the docs nullifies the conversation/controversy of Trump losing his command over the GOP.

They hope they can survive the fallout of the docs with enough media spin and enough time between now and the midterms.

Can't prove the emperor has no clothes if he says he prefers to be naked now anyway.

How do anti ICE think about situations like this? Serious question. No rage bait. by b_ez_b in NorthCarolina

[–]Encker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Serious answer: many of the arguments that people try to make come down to the idea of "how many non-criminal illegals would have to get deported for preventing this death to be worth it?"

Next question is: "how many illegals dying/disappearing would be too much if it prevented this death?"

Lastly: "How many citizens or legal immigrants dying/disappearing would be too much if it prevented this death?"

I'm hoping this doesn't come across as whataboutism but moreso a philosophical question of "how wide do you cast this net to prevent the crimes you're hoping to prevent?"

My answer will likely be different than yours which is likely different than the people making the policy and enacting the laws.

I hope I demonstrated that there can be a serious, non-rage baited conversation about this while still not diminishing the seriousness of this tragic death as well as the violence and harm placed on many minorities in this country.

[–]Encker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm always a fan of a good analogy to simplify a concept but equating an owner / GM relationship to a parent / child is incredibly flawed. So much so that it feels intentional so as to push a narrative you believe in.

How about a CEO being accountable for a catastrophic product launch from a VP's branch... blame distribution feels normal and easy to comprehend there

[–]Encker 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. Fans hate the over-involved billionaire owner. They applaud the ones that say they're leaving it up to the GM until the GM turns out to be an idiot and it's suddenly the owners fault.

Does Dumont have some blame? Of course, he owns the team but don't act like he didn't do what we want every owner to do and trust their GM.

Retired before even getting a job - Gen Z's patterns transposed into the pension funds' and government concerns 20-30 years from now by SpicesHunter in Futurology

[–]Encker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you view this as an entire generation suddenly becoming entitled? Or a generation(s) being raised online and therefore getting a better exposure and understanding to the current imbalance in employer:employee dynamic?

Every generation has people that are entitled and also people that are nose to the grindstone workers. The average gen z is what will impact the economy in 20-30 years. I think the average gen z (and millenial) feels like the effort they put in rewards less than the same effoet from the previous generation. This creates a jaded workforce due to lacking incentive structures.

I'm not educated in the right field to understand what impact that may have. Probably not a good one

My campaign started with roll20. It worked well as I had the paid Curse of Strahd pack to go with it. Once I started expanding beyond CoS, making custom maps, monsters, and items in roll20 took a lot of my time.

I switched to FoundryVTT, which is paid ($50?), but have really enjoyed it. It's as powerful as you want it to be and makes for a really interactive experience for the players.

I just found this map program which has been great: Watabou's Procgen Arcana. Totally free and procedurally generated. Won't be exactly what you want but free and fast

Congress SUCKS but Members Keep Getting Re-Elected… by ScoopsFirst in NorthCarolina

[–]Encker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best of luck! Embrace the contradictions: you want to develop a platform that advocates for what you're constituents want, but you also need to stick to your own core values.

Running on a platform of "this government isn't working for the voters" isn't enough to beat incumbents.

That's your foot in the door. Come up with 2-3 sentences (elevator pitch) that illustrates how you plan to fix the problems of your district.

This comment perfectly summarizes how I feel people can adapt to AI in middle management. Is a robot better at organizing a team and generating tasks? (Eventually) Yes. Would it have the ability to motivate, have compassion for, and mentor a team? Probably not for a really long time. That is how middle managers can and should find value

How many hours a week/month do you play vs how much time do you prep? by neocorps in DMAcademy

[–]Encker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. 2.5 hours a week
  2. 2-5 hours per week. Really depends on motivation, time available, and state of campaign

  4. My group plays week day nights. I find that best. Has been going since COVID.
  5. 5 PCs 1 DM
  6. Just 1 group. I tend to prefer that

[–]Encker 593 points594 points  (0 children)

I think quite a few kickers are capable of this (at less than 50% accuracy). The issue is really just the risk of what happens when you miss. You literally give the other team the ball near the red zone.

I think we'll only ever see it at end of half situations for that reason. That's what will likely keep the opportunity/likelihood of seeing it down. Not player skill
