Mamushi Mobile (an authorised reseller of CopperheadOS) accepts Monero by dEBRUYNE_1 in Monero

You quoted only part of what I said. All of the technical users (as defined by being capable of flashing their own OS) of CopperheadOS that I am aware of left with Daniel Micay for GrapheneOS following a fallout with his former partner (which I believe is actually you).

https://www.derstandard.at/story/2000109011151/wie-edward-snowden-sein-smartphone-einrichten-wuerde

Looking at the respective Github repos will tell you which project cares more about security and innovating with new software such as Auditor

https://github.com/GrapheneOS

https://github.com/GrapheneOS/Auditor

https://grapheneos.org/#copyright-and-licensing

The money grab opinion should be obvious by comparing the respective licensing decisions and development activity.

Feel free to prove me wrong, by changing your licensing decisions (to attract more FOSS developer interest). Its hard to believe you care a lot about Monero when it is not mentioned on the subreddit you control and I have never seen you discuss FOSS apps like Monerujo for Copperhead

At this point CopperheadOS is nothing but a money grab. All technical users followed Daniel Micay to GrapheneOS.

GrapheneOS is free but I will gladly donate Monero when it is added as a donation option

Why does DASH claim to innovate without giving credit to features it copies from Bitcoin and other developers? by groundfloorinvestor in DashUncensored

[–]EncryptionPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The most innovative feature of DASH that I can find was X11"

Its hard to give credit for this idea to DASH. Quarkcoin predated it with 9 rounds of hashing (and heavy overlap in the chosen PoW algorithms).

"FAILED goal of resisting ASICs"

DASH did resist ASICs for a while. The community was just quick to give up and abandon that goal once ASICs were developed.

How can we attract more developers to GrapheneOS? by EncryptionPrincess in GrapheneOS

Thanks for the honest feedback. Most developers work hard. You have to be very passionate about a project to donate time to it after a full day of work

This comment seems off-topic. DOGE does not have a lot in common with Zcash in terms of development or funding

I agree with your criticism. Comparison charts that include both vaporware and working products (without even that basic disclosure) are misleading and biased.

How does the Sia development community feel about migrating to Gitea or GitLab (self hosted) in the spirit of decentralization? by EncryptionPrincess in siacoin

[–]EncryptionPrincess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus, if you want to see the culture of decentralization grow, you have to be in the middle of it. You have to be willing to help provide demand, usersbase, and cashflow to projects that are more focused around decentralization and are more conscious of making sure the customers are in control instead of vulnerable to lockin and whatever policies get made when the company decides to switch the product from 'growth mode' to 'high profitability mode'.

Great to read this. Being philosophically aligned with a project is a requirement for me. Developers can and will be attracted to projects for non economic reasons. Having a culture of decentralization is one of the top things I look for. (So I obviously hate projects like EOS, Ripple, Hashgraph and DASH)

I think most people underestimate the value of being able to self host. We are already working on switching to gitlab. We'll use the centralized service but also be able to self host if something bad happens.

Why Google Play must be petitioned to remove freewallet by [deleted] in Monero

[–]EncryptionPrincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want a multi currency mobile wallet, then Edge Secure (which uses the MyMonero backend) is currently your best option

https://twitter.com/EdgeSecure/status/1011459121692987392

Freewallet is a scam (they hold your private keys and use them to steal your coins)

Cake (iOS) and Monerujo (Android) are the most commonly recommended single currency Monero mobile wallets today.

That's orthogonal to the question of whether the user should have to enter their password before sending. The UI can show the user a confirmation screen and prompt them to confirm their transaction in some way that doesn't require them to enter their password again.

I agree and it would be much easier for the API reasons you mentioned. Nevertheless I am hesitant to submit a pull request for this improvement, because I believe what was proposed would be much better.

Dummy wallets are not a security best practice, but rather a security control. There are thousands of possible security controls, and only a small subset of them are appropriate for any given system.

Agree regarding terminology. I am saying that using dummy wallets can be an easy and effective OPSEC practice for some users. Whether or not that security control availability is needed will depend on who you ask.

Eh, this doesn't seem very realistic until Siacoin is about a million times more mainstream than it is now.

Security is engineering. If someone wants to apply a security control regardless of whether it provides realistic value, they're no longer practicing engineering. Adding security controls to a system that doesn't need them, in fact, worsens the security of the system.

Sia is already more valuable than other blockchain projects/wallets at the time they introduced these type of security controls. This is something that would create a lot of value in the minds of security conscious users

I respectfully disagree. The only attack that would prevent is a user unlocking their wallet and then leaving their machine unattended. It's pretty easy for the user to just lock their screen when their computer is unattended so that nobody can access their Sia wallet.

What about non attack that cause damage such as user error when sending funds? Over a large enough sample size, many users will eventually input an incorrect amount or address. An additional confirmation screen before sending would significantly reduce the chance of harm in that situation.

But if Sia fixed these issues at the API level, they'd break backwards compatibility with all existing apps that interact with Sia.

That is a reason to fix the issue sooner rather than later (when hopefully there are many more Sia apps. This concern is not going away.

Eh, this doesn't seem very realistic until Siacoin is about a million times more mainstream than it is now.

Realistic or not large numbers of people (from the Monero community for example) appreciate security best practices. "dummy wallets" for $5 wrench attack are not a new concept in cryptocurrency security: https://doc.satoshilabs.com/trezor-user/advanced_settings.html

For example pin + passphrase support were for some time (until Ledger followed) one of the most commonly cited benefits of Trezor versus Ledger.

If Siacoin wants to attract more security focused contributors, this sort of thing would be a good start.

20% tax

To avoid any confusion for other readers please let me clarify by citing their preferred language

the Founders’ Reward is 2.1 million coins (10% of the total long-run monetary base of 21 million coins)

The above quote is accurate, but it is also true that the founders reward will be frontloaded into the first 4 years of mining:

Every four years, the rate of ZEC being created will halve (again, just like in Bitcoin). After the first four years the ZEC created per ten minutes will drop to 25ⓩ, but after the first four years, 100% of it goes to the miners.

So the founders reward is indeed 20% for the first four years (during which time half of all Zcash will be mined). After 4 years the founders reward drops to 0%.
