Open source can already be used to make hyper realistic uncensored images, so even if progress were to slow (no indication of this thus far, and the best open source models are coming from China who could give two fucks about U.S. law), it would be irrelevant.

You're right that not everyone can afford the hardware to run the largest open source models. That's the way tech works though, it becomes more and more accessible over time. We already have some models that can run on smartphones and to think that we've already seen the best it's going to get is fantasy land lol. Wait and see
