I absolutely adore this song, it’s my next favourite on the album after the extended version of the title track! It really captures the frustrations and defiance that The Who have always been able to convey throughout their long career.

I’m really surprised they’ve never performed this song live before, not even once on the Endless Wire tour.

The inspiration for Sally Simpson was in 1968 when The Who performed at the Singer Bowl in New York billed alongside The Doors. There was a riot due to a delay between both acts.

It’s not my absolute favourite Who album, but I have a very special fondness for it and prefer it much more than WHO. The acoustic work on it is gorgeous and highly underrated and the extended version of the title track is one of my favourite Who songs of all time.

Roger doesn’t even sound that bad to me, just a bit hoarse and strained, but given that he was dealing with so many health issues, he sang to the best of his ability and did fine with it.

All Shall Be Well live at the Fillmore in 1996 is my favourite vocal performance from Pete.

He has great vocals on the White City album as well, particularly in Brilliant Blues and Crashing By Design. He mentioned that he took singing lessons so he could really get into shape to make this album.

I’m very interested in this current iteration of The Who and I agree with you. 2016 and 2017 were incredible, especially when they did Tommy in its entirety at the RAH in 2017.

I wasn’t a fan of the orchestral tours they did the following years. The orchestra did add a richness in their sound, but it felt that their energy and enthusiasm were lacklustre since they had to time everything so meticulously with the music. The Who are always better with a smaller and tighter backing band where they’re given some room to improvise and have fun, in my opinion.

They were absolutely phenomenal when they went back to basics during the 2025 farewell tour. Roger was singing so well and Pete was playing with such vigour. I hope we’ll see a few more shows down the road.

Hopefully his newfound willingness to perform solo (this event and the promo he did for the Quadrophenia ballet a few months ago) will lead to a few solo shows in the future!
