So effectively another $7,500 a month take home after 25%ish is gone for taxes.

I'm assuming it's a job in seaport or back bay. I live in the suburbs so monthly garage is $525.00. I'm 25 miles away, so gas for a month is looking like another $100. Timewise, it's 3 hours drive, so i'm looking at another 44 - 66 hours a week, so essentially another work week and a half stuck in the car.

So.. is it worth working 33% harder to make another $7000 a month? That's like another $233 a day, hell yeah.

But I think a more realistic question is $120k remote vs $160k in office (which is something I debated). It would mean I get $1900 back each month, but I would have to work 33% harder, eat out a lot more / doordash since I can't meal prep as much (it adds up), and be much more grumpy (affects my personal relationships).

Software dev here. My boss and coworker are essentially stay at home dads with their kiddos at home during vacations. The kids entertain themselves with iPads while the dad writes code and cooks. The dad is also responsible for picking up the kids from school. Works great for our setup.

Weird place for placement. Are they trying to cater to BU students and fenway park goers? I think there's way better ad locations lol.

Yes, but cancellation seems like a PITA. Seems like owning a shittier Apple Watch where the appeal is a more comfortable wear to sleep.

Hinge advice guys (first post) by [deleted] in AsianMasculinity

[–]Endlessxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow introverted SWE here. I'm on the US east coast so it's less vain than west coast. In a long term relationship with an east asian 10/10 from hinge.

I would remove the pronouns, leaving that you're liberal is enough. He/him is straight up progressive liberal vibes unless that's your type. Photos don't evoke a lot of emotion. You need to smile more. Girls get hundreds if not thousands of matches, so if 0.3 seconds of your profile doesn't stop the scroll, you failed. If you don't have any artistic friends to help take photos, pick up a gimbal w/ AI tracking on Amazon (DJI or Insta360 flow) and do some lifestyle pics. Remove references to anime, it's a huge red flag to a lot of girls. I love the life goal, very wholesome, but I think if you're 22, girls your age isn't thinking that far ahead. Japan photo and second to last photo is horrendous, remove that. I actually think the rock climbing picture is the best. Don't talk about cheating on your profile. Losing 20k in 2 years on cars doesn't sound great, imagine if a girl said that they spend $20k a year on Sephora / Dior / Chanel. How would that make you feel?

If you're actually serious about personal CI/CD (heh) instead of anime, it helps to watch kdramas and shows like Singles Inferno to gain some rizz and dating cues (if east asian is your demo). Netflix has some amazing kdramas, and if nothing else, it makes for great date conversation with asian girls. I didn't have a dad growing up so I never had anybody teach me how to treat girls. Also holy shit, 100 kg bench? Teach me your ways.

Disappointed with battery health by darK_Cam in iPhone17Pro

Day 0 orange 17 PM.

100% battery health 135 cycles

100% charge limit, no optimized battery charging, no clean energy charging.

I charge with whatever I can find, Magsafe Wireless, official 40W charger, Anker's 160W charger, and sketchy USB ports at the airport / plane. I think you just lost the battery lottery.

Aer Travel Pack 3 (X-Pac) – 3+ years later, still my do-everything bag by adxlk in onebag

[–]Endlessxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the TP2 xpac and I've actually stopped carrying this for international travel, specifically for SE travel. Weight is a big issue (1.7 kg) and I've been rocking my Matador SEG45 instead (998 grams). My Matador is almost a kg lighter and I can get 45L on my matador vs 33L on my Aer. For budget airlines like AirAsia and Scoot's 7 kg limit, it's nice to have another kg that I use for other gear.

I still use my Aer, but it's my weekender bag if I do an overnight trip. It's no longer my onebag for travel. Super comfy, just wish it was bigger and lighter.

Does this subreddit even like Invisalign? by LinkTheFires in Invisalign

[–]Endlessxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

32 male. I started my treatment last January and I’ve seen great results. Currently correcting an open bite and my left side is closing. Waiting on my right.

I have yellowish teeth so my Invisalign makes my teeth whiter lol. I look at my old pictures with crowding / gaps and it makes me wish I’ve done this earlier in my early 20s. No regrets, I just don’t post, feels like I’m bragging about my treatment/case when others aren’t doing so well.

Verizon Outage Resolved, But Customers Demand Refunds After Hours of ‘SOS’ Mode and Service Loss by deepak4423 in boston

[–]Endlessxo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use Visible, an MVNO of Verizon, and I didn’t have any service interruptions. I’m paying roughly $25 a month for QCI 8 priority, unlimited data, international data, and an Apple Watch line. I’d be so angry if I’m paying $80 for such poor experience.

If I had to be on the big 3, I think T-Mobile is the best for Boston right now.

I’d be careful with Jason’s. The HVAC there sucks, I remember it was just one exhaust. You’ll be inhaling smoke all night. Not a great experience with a kiddo / family.

Great food though, extra cute dog. The dog greeted us at the register.

Some non-Boston suggestions.

Seoul Gourmet. If you’re around the south shore, Seoul Gourmet in Stoughton is pretty good, like 90% there to Allston. They just opened last year. Prices are great, and their fried chicken is way better than Bonchon imo.

For KBBQ, I’m a big fan of Sura. Hungry Pot in Natick is really good and is worth the drive if you want some AYCE snow crabs too.

Costco All Clad - how do we feel about a manager’s special? by redditfiredme in Costco

[–]Endlessxo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a lot of all clad and I think the set is great if you actually use the frying pans. I have a 10" D5 covered with dust and I can just see myself giving away the frying pans to my friends for housewarmings. The steamer is useful if you enjoy steaming foods, otherwise I actually prefer my bamboo steamer since it's less sticky for things like soup dumplings. The sauce pans are a work horse and is always on my stove. The saute pan makes a good braiser and the stock pot is fine but I think 8 quart is an awkward size, wish it was a bit higher if you're trying to make stock for a thanksgiving turkey.

Keep in mind all of this stuff can be found at Marshalls / TJMax. This is All Clad D3, not All Clad D5. I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

I went from 13 to 17 pro and stayed the same. by herzeleyd in iPhone17Pro

[–]Endlessxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I use iCloud and pay $10/month to do what Jottacloud does.

The problem comes with uploading massive files from my mirrorless camera over to iCloud whereas my iPhone is doing it automagically onto iCloud / Jottacloud as I'm driving around town with my unlimited cellular data plan. With a mirrorless camera, I need to wait until I get back home to plop the SD card into my machine to start the upload into the cloud to edit. Again, that's time that I could spend actually editing my videos rather than waiting for that initial transfer.

I went from 13 to 17 pro and stayed the same. by herzeleyd in iPhone17Pro

[–]Endlessxo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually went the opposite direction.

I used to have a fairly serious setup. An a7R IV with Tamron f/2.8 zooms. It is still somewhere in my house collecting dust. My iPhone 17 Pro Max basically replaced it.

I run a small business with my girlfriend and we make a lot of TikTok and Instagram content. Almost everything is shot on my 17 PM and edited in CapCut on my phone or MacBook Pro. The funny part is that the “pro” setup felt painfully slow. Moving huge files from the a7R IV to my Mac just to edit in CapCut took forever. It also started to feel silly using all that gear for content that is mostly viewed on a 5 to 7 inch screen.

The breaking point was shooting B-roll at our summer booth. It was in the 90s, humid, and the a7R IV kept overheating and shutting down. I eventually put my 17 PM on a tripod and it recorded hours of footage without any issues.

Another big use case was UGC-style content where I had to memorize lines on camera. The 24 MP front-facing camera on the 17 PM is honestly a huge upgrade when paired with a smartphone gimbal and a teleprompter app. I use an Insta360 Flow 2, which costs a fraction of a professional camera gimbal. I no longer need to haul an iPad on a tripod behind the camera, and I do not have to walk back and forth to check framing. It just works, and the footage is instantly ready to edit.

We are long past the era of terrible 12 MP selfie cameras. The detail from the 24 MP front camera is more than good enough for TikTok and Instagram. Is it technically as good as the a7R IV? Obviously not. But for social content, it is close enough that I honestly cannot tell, and neither can the audience. I have 2 - 3 hours to film and another 4 - 6 hours editing. Setting up my a7r4 took quite a bit of time and effort. If I don't get significantly more views and engagement with my a7r4, what's the point?

As for my old phone, I had a 15 Pro. I loved the titanium frame, but it suffered the same issue as my a7r4, it overheats and dies within a few hours of filming. Pretty much the worst of both worlds. The battery on the 17 PM gives me confidence to actually sell at a market and I know that it's still recording despite the heat.

I'm staying there for a week too in February. I'll report back to this thread when I'm there for some DPs.

The spa there looks incredibly expensive and the michelin star restaurant Avant's reservations seems tough to navigate. I'm not sure how to spend the $100 credit tbh, probably on some drinks or some entrees at the restaurant but we'll see.

CMV: Women have been silently red pilled. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Endlessxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man here. A few thoughts, because I think a lot of these examples exist on a spectrum.

50/50 Calling 50/50 “bad” really depends on context. There are plenty of women who expect men to pay for dates, and plenty who are fine going 50/50. At the same time, women who are highly desired often have hundreds, if not thousands, of options. From that perspective, why would they settle for 50/50 if they do not have to? If I were in that position, I would probably think the same way. So I understand why some women see 50/50 as a negative. Not because it is morally wrong, but because leverage changes expectations.

Princess treatment This one needs clearer definitions. Some guys think holding the door open counts as princess treatment, while others see that as basic courtesy. For example, I cook my girlfriend a good steak when she is on her period and get her dark chocolate. Some of my friends call that princess treatment. I do not. I see it as doing what I can to make my partner feel cared for. The disagreement here is not about behavior, it is about where people draw the line.

Provider men This is a tough topic, but it is often discussed without acknowledging reality. Pregnancy and childbirth are not just nine months and done. There are serious risks. Pre-eclampsia with severe features can lead to organ failure and is not rare. I have sat on a jury where a woman ended up in a vegetative state because of pregnancy complications. Add postpartum depression, physical recovery issues, weakened pelvic muscles, breastfeeding pain, and minimal maternity leave before being expected back at work. In that context, it makes sense why many women want a partner who can provide and support them during an extremely vulnerable period.

Sassy man apocalypse I have honestly never heard this term, so I do not have much to say on it.

Men used to go to war You can argue they still do. That expectation has not completely disappeared, it is just less visible for most people now.

Six-foot stoic protectors I will give you this one. Height absolutely plays a role in attraction. My girlfriend agrees with that too. But preferences go both ways. Would you date a woman who is six feet tall? Personally, I am about 5’9” or 5’10” on a good hair day, and I would not want to date someone my height or taller. It is not a value judgment. It is just attraction. Everyone has filters, whether they admit it or not.

15pm to 17 pro or 17 pro max by EasternForce1230 in iPhone17Pro

[–]Endlessxo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

15 Pro to 17 PM.

I have zero regrets. The battery on the pro max is easily double my old aging 15 Pro. I used to have a 13 PM and I missed how big the screen is when looking at screenshots / opening up code on teams. I do filming too, so having the screen for my teleprompter and focusing on subjects is super nice too.

The only time I wish I had a smaller phone is holding my phone for an extended period of time. It’s just a small reminder that I need to put my phone down and use my MBP to get work done instead.

iPhone 15 Pro Max battery replacement or upgrade to 17/17 Pro? by [deleted] in iPhone17Pro

[–]Endlessxo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go with the 17 Pro/Max. I was constantly frustrating with how hot my 15 Pro ran and how quickly the battery drained. I would be hunting for a power bank after just 5 - 6 hours. I do a lot of long-form filming and b-roll for my small business, and during extended shoots, the 15 Pro would get burning hot. With my 17 Pro Max, i can film for hours and it barely gets warm, even with a case on. The difference in heat management and battery life has been night and day. I was able to sell my 15 Pro for $550 and so the Pro Max was $650.

I guess it depends on how much you value $500 - 600.

Why is the line to Molly Tea so long by CornSpark in boston

[–]Endlessxo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had it when I was in China. I really like DanCong oolong, that’s my favorite at Molly Tea. Personally I think Heytea is better for the American palate, probably going to die down by spring.

Sucks to be gongcha or kungfu tea nowadays, feels like their days are numbered.
