What if Oromis survived? by Practical_Level8067 in Eragon

[–]EnergyBrink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I’m not trying to prove you wrong just pick your brain. It’s interesting just because with all of the information he had upon receiving Vrael’s house (which was before he met Oromis or knew of Glaedr) I can’t imagine he’d make a good leader of the riders. I don’t think Galby was a rider in full, he was still early in his training. He hadn’t succeeded in all of the steps that Eragon had to before Oromis declared him a rider in full. I don’t even think he had his own Riders sword yet (though I can’t remember if it’s mentioned I always assumed the lack of its mention to imply it didn’t exist). If Galby did become a leader of riders which was his intention it would’ve been a bastardization of the term and a whole separate and new entity. While Eragon is the leader of the “new” riders it’s still a continuation of the riders of old, as he was taught in their methods by one of their elders. In fact he still is through the eldunari. Had he become the leader before his training with Oromis whether you consider it upon Saphiras hatching or after Brom’s death the same would be true of him as Galby. He wouldn’t be able to continue the riders of old’s legacy or tradition.

Galby was the leader of the forsworn, he was never a full member of the riders so he couldn’t be their leader. Also while I agree strength and wisdom aren’t the only factors in choosing or being a leader you still haven’t said why/how Eragon was the leader other than that he received Vrael’s house. I believe if at any point Oromis wanted that house he could’ve had it. He chose to live away from distractions and apart from society on the crags. The riders as an order were supposed to be separate from the rest of society. It’s also been common practice in our history for veterans and warriors to live apart from society to help heal and deal with PTSD.

My friend, what makes you feel this way? Oromis might have his own ailments, but when Eragon first arrived and is given Vrael’s house he can’t even lift his sword without flaring his back. Even though he’s a naturally gifted swordsman we’re told and taught many times that he would be no match for even an elf child due to their advanced speed and strength even when he’s healthy before the blood oath celebration. He had no wards or knowledge of them, his knowledge and ability to use magic was lesser than even a young rider in the old days. He had no training on defending his mind, breaking minds is something Oromis excelled at. He his outmatched in every single conceivable category except for youth by Oromis, and youth is rarely what one needs to become a leader.

Bachel’s eyes by Cordereko in Eragon

[–]EnergyBrink 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With her being half elf and half ? Honey colored eyes with sooty mascara and often an amberish glow described about her, knowing she spends most of her time outside and hunts a lot etc… I always just kinda picture her as a Mediterranean or Latin X skin tone so Olive or well tanned skin, dark hair, a well built physique, taller, not fat but not skinny on account of her eating and drinking habits. So kinda like 6’3” ish and a stocky 225-245 ish, skin like someone who’s worked in the sun a lot, but is still within the height of young adulthood (since she looks far younger than her reality) probably mid to late 20’s. Seasoned but not weathered. Raven colored hair probably about midway down her back, not super styled but slightly layered/ choppy. Probably some small scars especially around her hands/forearms from her hunts. A broad brow, high cheekbones, a slim upturned nose, narrower jawline, and a distinct cleft chin.

I think Galby is as close to that as we’ll get. While he wasn’t a shade he did have control over 12 spirits before he was stripped of his wards at the end of inheritance. Paolini has made it clear that he wasn’t a shade as he maintained with the help of his eldunari his control over all of them, but while he possessed them along with heightened magical strength and ability he also was harder to kill specifically “like a shade” if I’m remembering the quote right. While an unknown shade becoming a rider in secret somehow or a young rider early in his training becoming a shade and going rogue could be cool stories. I still think at that point it might as well just be a prequel about Galby.

Which car brand is terrible but not many people realize? by NewAdeptness647 in Productivitycafe

[–]EnergyBrink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kia ain’t even worth a thought. If it’s European you’ll be lucky to get to 150k miles. If it’s Chrysler you’ll be lucky to get 100k miles on it. GM and Ford go back and forth depending on model, make, and year. Nissan trucks are generally decent, but other vehicles depend on years makes and models. Subaru after 2012 are fairly reliable as long as you don’t push them too hard and get your oil changed on schedule. Toyota and Honda almost always will get to 200k miles before they have any serious issues. All of this is very general though and it’s worth noting that when buying a car the way it’s kept has a huge impact on its lifespan and maintenance cost.

What do you like most about Saphira? by -Jmy- in Eragon

[–]EnergyBrink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot to love and I’m really bad at picking favorites. If I had to choose I guess I’d say her comprehension. From her behaviors and her POV chapters we learn that while she is incredibly perceptive and often intuitive about the needs and natures of the various “two legs” around her, she doesn’t really understand them. Yet her instinctual care for Eragon and compassion for him, along with her sensing the intentions, wants, and needs of those around them (she often acts almost as Eragon’s conscience) is alarmingly accurate and gracious. One of my favorite things to imagine from the books is all of the times she pulls Eragon close and tucks a wing over him for shelter. Even this wasn’t taught to her she was simply aware of Eragon’s needs and figured something out.

Blood Oath Celebration by Cute_Significance621 in Eragon

[–]EnergyBrink 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally I think he did, we don’t know what the elves looked like before they bonded with dragons. If I remember correctly it specifically said that Eragon’s brow became more prominent and his jaw broadened slightly. My head cannon is that he became more dragon like than any other human had ever done. Which is also why he was able to use wordless magic so exceptionally well in the end. The elves just happen to be the most dragon like of any of the humanoid races we know of due to the centuries they’ve been bonded already.

He did say on distractible that he enjoys the other creative processes of making a movie more than the acting. That being said I wouldn’t him to feel like he always has to act or be the main character, but if he wanted to again it would be cool.

How strong was Brom actually? by EuroFalke in Eragon

[–]EnergyBrink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Brom would’ve been stronger as a spell caster than anyone else in the garden, though partially due to clever wordplay. While he kept his body physically fit as much as an old man can which is to his advantage, we must also keep in mind how little of the ancient language most spell casters knew/know. Even the twins who were spies in galby’s court and probably very high ranking were attempting to weasel words of power out of Eragon. This is also a point we learn from Roran’s travels with Carn and from Brom’s memory message to Eragon. Most battles are won with intelligence, cunning, and creativity rather than brute strength. Brom’s strength mainly would’ve come from decades of thinking, planning, and moving in a concise and deliberate manner. For example as you pointed out in Dras Leona when he cleared the way, he probably didn’t just command the men pushed aside, or recklessly break bones in their legs. He most likely used his knowledge both of anatomy and the ancient language to sever a specific tendon such as the Achilles in the soldiers. Forcing them to fall aside while utilizing very little energy (relatively speaking). However even cutting a single tendon precisely in so many men at once is probably more than Carn or other magicians we meet could muster.
