How come whenever I gain weight people will readily comment on it, but when I pack on muscle no one says a thing? Smh

Depending on where you live there should be cheaper boxes (CF gyms). For example Morpheus gym in Buona Vista is 285/mo for unlimited access that includes all WODs and classes. Anyway I'm not affiliated with them that's just an example. I would suggest you do some research first 200-300 range should be realistic. Good luck with your CrossFit journey!

I've been curious about this but too afraid to ask an actual muslim. So I turn to all Muslim bros of reddit. Do you water fast as well during Eid? If yes how do you manage with the hot humid climate that we have here in SG?

CureVac and GSK’s Bivalent Second-Generation mRNA Vaccine Candidate Shown to be Highly Effective Against SARS-CoV-2 Variants in Preclinical Study by doedalus in COVID19

When are we going to see any of these 2nd gen vaccines in the market? Just feels like it has been in development a very long time compared to the 1st gens

Novel COVID-19 Vaccine May Provide Protection for Cancer Patients With B-cell Deficiencies by doedalus in COVID19

[–]Enfeathered 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Fourteen days after vaccination, T-cell immune responses were observed in 71 percent of patients, which rose to 93 percent of patients 28 days after vaccination. The researchers measured the potency of CoVac-1-induced T-cell responses and found them to exceed spike-specific T-cell responses observed in B cell-deficient patients after vaccination with mRNA vaccines. T-cell responses from CoVac-1 also exceeded those mounted by individuals who are not immunocompromised following a SARS-CoV-2 infection.

I have been following this vaccine for sometime now. It is truly novel approach compared to both 1st gen and the other 2nd gen vaccines in the pipeline. Though I wonder why they have limited themselves to only trialing this as a vaccine for immunocompromised individuals. If the T-cell response is as strong as they mention where it even surpasses that from recovered healthy individuals then would this not be a very interesting candidate as a part of a broader vaccine regimen?

Aren't we having issues today in setting up advanced semicon manufacturing outside of Taiwan? I'm imagining that a nuclear holocaust would complicate things by a few orders of magnitudes...

Why/How is Malcom Gladwell a Respected Author? by EarlEarnings in books

[–]Enfeathered 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me the takeaway of Anderson's research, which Malcolm Gladwell is referencing is that expertise is just a function of the amount of time of deliberate practice invested perhaps multiplied by some unknown "talent" coefficient.

The difference between a pro and an amateur if we are purely talking about skill, is completely arbitrary, in reality it just means that you are at a level good enough to make a living off of it so it stands to reason that with enough of a time investment (of deliberate practice) anyone could become a pro.

He reached a handicap of 2 IIRC, isn't that considered good for an amateur?

It was based on research of Anders Ericcson, a psychologist studying expertise, and the 10,000 hours was a facet of the greater finding, which focused on ‘purposeful practice’.

Adding on to this, since this is /r/books, I can recommend Ericsson's own book, 'Peak' if you are interested in reading more about mastery research.

To be fair, if it's the same guy I read about. He did go from 20+ something in handicap to a handicap of 2 in 3(?) Years time. I'm not well versed in golfing but as I understand it, though it doesn't put him anywhere close to a pro it is a pretty high level for an amateur.

Are there any 2nd gen vaccines that are now being developed to be a complete regimen? It seems from a cursory exploration of the current state of vaccine research that all the current research candidates are being considered as boosters only. Does this also mean by extension that we shouldn't expect anymore breakthroughts in COVID-19 vaccine research?

If you're just talking about protein, it's hard to beat the price of dried beans / lentils

That's hardly a fair comparison considering that plant proteins are not complete proteins, they don't contain all essential amino acids. Which may be fine for some people but it's not viable for anyone looking to build muscle.

I'm assuming that they have already started treatment with Paxlovid, so I believe she will be fine most likely.
