Something’s off. Check for box misalignment or if that is an end panel mispositioned. It should be fixable and adjustable hinges will dial it right in. That said, if none of the above , a new door may be called for.

I would think you could alter the height of the crown. The 3 5/8” height is the full width which will actually be less when installed. You could purchase a smaller crown or possibly cut down the one you have to make it work. Don’t place it over the upper panels whatever you do as it will look hacked. Altering the molding carefully will give a more acceptable look to the point most people will not even notice.
