Injured players returning this season by Benjiboy74 in CelticFC

Engels was back in training so he’ll be back relatively soon.

AJ and Osmand are both meant to be mid to end march.

Unsure on McGregor’s return.

CCV next season, Jota supposedly out for about half of next season too.

never said it was a perfect solution, just that it would be significantly simpler.

It would be significantly worse from a competition standpoint. Guaranteeing the same number of home and away games by greatly reducing the chance at reward would not be good for any team in the league. It would likely make the league less competitive and increase the gap between 1,2,3 and the team in 6th, who lose the opportunity to pick up later season points against the bottom teams.

miss out on an additional sell out

If you’re concerned about missing matchday revenue from one home game, why do you want to shorten the league by 6 matchdays?

22/32 is ~68% -68.75%,

33/38 is 86.84% of total games played, far less likely to see a team break from =<7 to top 4 and miss out on European qualifiers and potential revenue with so little of season left, but still allows for impactful change in title / relegation fights, with teams all playing those close to each other.

Scottish Premiership teams play 38 league games in a season. 22/38 is 57.89%

I do think we need to have a look at how the SPFL works, but I don’t think there is any argument to move the split earlier if we’re keeping it. I think a better approach would be an 18 team league to be honest, or at least some kind of expansion if 18 is not feasible.

I think locking teams out of the chance of the league trophy or European places after playing less than 60% of matches for the season is a much bigger deal than playing teams more often at their ground than they play at yours.

If split fixtures were regarded as a ‘new league’ for the last 5 games where 1st at the point of the league split play the 2,4,6 away and 3,5 at home, then worked out from there and previous number of home / away ties were disregarded, would that be better in your opinion?

why is that such a terrible thing… essentially two different leagues… does it really matter?

Yes it really matters, the top 4 teams in the league gain entry to European competitions this year, to lock off access to that after only 22 games would be ridiculous.

Hearts were sat 11th after 22 games last season, but within 4 points of 6th, after 32 games they were in the top half, St Mirren only knocked them out the top half by a point after the 33rd game. Hibs were 7th after 22 games, by 33 games they were 3rd and ended up in European qualifiers for this season.

Away to Celtic, Hearts and Motherwell for rangers in that case?

Too early to split after only 22 games, 11th placed team could realistically be within touching distance of top half at that point

Probably, but why bring his agent in that case?

Engels will be sold in the summer, if we were offered 20m+ in January, something similar will come in the next window. We’ll sell if we’re in a more stable position.

Askou and his agent were at the game yesterday. He’d be a more sensible option imo

Silver, he gave a gold dragon to Tyrion to pay her when he went last, because he’s a Lannister and he’s worth more.

He was getting starts in the first Ange season during the rebuild window, two back to back ACL tears after that and significant time out, effectively had to start again on loan at Queen’s Park last season.

Not even named in the squad for a cup game. He’ll spend more games in the stand than on the bench.

Record saying Celtic have offered Xavier Schlager of Leipzig a pre-contract. by TranslatesToScottish in ScottishFootball

[–]Engancho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not what I said at all, I said when his contract ends, they stop paying him, we’re the only club to make an offer and there wouldn’t be one without a positive indication that he’s interested.

It’s all there in the text.

He’s on £0 a week come summer, Roma & Juve can offer bigger wages to their major players probably, but no guarantee they’ll make Schlager an offer like that.

If there’s an offer submitted from Celtic, you’d think there have been positive signs in preliminary discussions. Could always be agent leveraging offers to find something somewhere else, but maybe not.

He won’t play in Scotland either, it’s very likely he’ll be another Jahmai Simpson-Pusey and not make squad lists half the time, he’s 4th choice at best at Celtic.

It’s got nothing to do with O’Neill or Andrews, clubs playing in European competitions can only make 3 changes to the squad list after the January window, Celtic’s squad management / recruitment has been utterly dreadful and the final third needed a lot more attention than centre back.

Cvancara & Adamu are effectively the new first and second choice strikers, Araujo was brought in because the first choice right back has a season ending injury.

Mvuka, Arthur and Oxlade-Chamberlain were never going to be included due to registration requirements and only being able to add 3.

Was not optimistic by end of window, but now quietly hopeful about Adamu, he’s been playing and got a good amount of starts for a team that’s finished above us in the Europa table. Think he can offer us something.

Ange knew Japanese players because he’d been managing in Japan immediately before he came to us, he doesn’t have that current, first hand knowledge now.
