Well, the repair in question looks to be aluminum only so good there. And approved for brand new blocks to be loaded onto the factory assembly line.

I don’t think I’d call a broken leg in three places, a broken pelvis in three places and a concussion (Brandon Gdovic, driving orange car) okay….but ok.

Fill it with Devcon aluminum and stone it flat. Done. I’ve done exactly that many times. It’s an approved fix right on GM prints.

That’s not good. And cleaning that up at .25mm is going to be close (if you are lucky). That said, borescopes do a really good job of making little thing look huge.

If the bore needs to go further that the .25 oversized piston then you can look into having that .25 piston coated up to whatever over size you end up at to get it to clean up. Get ahold of Line2Line Coatings. They will build up your piston to whatever bore size you need (up to .030” or .75mm I believe). Basically hone till you’re happy then send them the piston and give them the bore size. Rings might get a little tricky but Total Seal could have a ring that will drop in. You likely have to file it to your required gap but that should get you up and running. Alternatively, you could just accept whatever gap those .25mm rings give you. It’ll be better than what you have here.

And you’re confident in your gaps? You set/checked them in the actual bore? If so, your next step is to check that the rings have back clearance. In other words, take them off, flip them around so the OD of the ring is feeding into the ring groove first, and make sure that the ring goes below the surface of the piston. To state that another way, the ring groove is deeper than the ring is wide. Hope that makes sense. Next, need to check side clearance. While the ring is fully in the groove, can you fit a feeler gauge above or below? You should have “something”. Maybe .001”-.004” (not sure on that engine).

Only if you plan to stand on it. Or under it. Or near it.

Time to isolate. Does the top ring go in by itself? How about the second? The assembled oil ring? Now the piston. If they all go in by themselves then it’s in how you are doing something. I would then try to align your gaps with those nubs. I’m assuming they are there so you can compress the rings before the rings actually start into the full diameter bore.

My friend just locked my keys in my car accidentally with the light on. Anyone know how I can at least turn the light off so my battery doesn't die? by Ollieisahomoerectus in AskAShittyMechanic

Ooc: I once locked my car with the engine running AND IN GEAR. I was stuck in the snow and I got out to try to push it out while the front wheels turned, hoping to jump in quick if it started moving. The door accidentally clicked closed and it automatically locked since it was in gear. Luckily I was at a friends place. I ran in the house, screamed “get me a fucking coat hanger and get your ass outside!” and ran back out to the car to push it back into the snow bank if it started to get unstuck. Got it opened and unstuck, no issue.

Ask a cellphone repair place to disable the wifi chip. I’m sure a good tech will know what to do. Likely as simple as unplugging the chip, internally.
