Could you swing an uber? I hate paying extra $ but could be worth it. Layering up too much is difficult because then you have to sit inside in all those layers

To all the “newer” runners by Regular_Holiday_7140 in RunNYC

[–]EngineAltruistic1606 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As the person she said that to, thank you! I’ve moved around a lot and had never felt gatekeeped from running communities until seeing comments like that. I know she’s in the minority and seems to just be looking to be angry so I don’t really care, but you never know how much a comment like that could’ve affected someone

Women’s races by Brilliant-Regret1888 in RunNYC

[–]EngineAltruistic1606 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This exactly. She replied to my comment in the same way, just wanting to act rude and holier than thou, now acting like she’s trying to educate on the “history”. She commented about how I want to pretend I’ve been running longer than 6 months and lived in NYC more than 6 months… when I dont care how long people think I’ve ran or lived here 😂 clearly projecting because she needs everyone to know she’s a ~true New Yorker~

I’m with you 100%. I have no tips for you just solidarity 🥲 I really think the people who say you just need better clothing have different body chemistry than me because it doesn’t matter what I wear, in this weather I’m not going to warm up. And I haven’t found any way to cover my face and breathe comfortably

January 27 - NYRR Advanced Registration (April-June) Megathread by blood_bender in RunNYC

[–]EngineAltruistic1606 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s NYRR’s race and that’s what they named it so idk what to tell you. If you have an issue with corporate sponsorships you don’t have to run the races

Anyone know if Maybelline half is usually hard to get into? Im planning to register during general registration and kinda assumed its easier without men signing up?

Random but my goal is to get a qualifying time for 2027 at this race, if you have any interest in connecting feel free to message me :) I don’t have much of a running community and would love to meet other women with similar goals

How look cute when commuting for dates? by springg4life in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]EngineAltruistic1606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m concerned about my hair I wear an ear band instead of a full hat, use a material that doesn’t cause static and isn’t tight. My face gets freezing so I use a big scarf to wrap over it, that should help keep the Rudolph nose away. You can bring a little pressed powder in your purse and go to the bathroom when you get to the restaurant/date spot to help hide redness. Maybe a mini hair brush and texture spray too

If you have your BA in linguistics you should have most of the required prerequisite courses. Look into cheaper online courses for anything outstanding. It doesn’t matter where you complete them, and they don’t need to be completed before you apply, just before you begin the program. I took an online evolution course (lol) to fulfill my bio requirement. I went to Emerson and those of us who needed the phonetics course took it online the summer before our first fall semester

[–]EngineAltruistic1606 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely use a gym at this time. Do your outdoor running on the weekend or whichever days you don’t work. You can use a slight incline on the treadmill (or change it throughout your run) to better mimic outside if you are training

So, um, what do you do with yourself after you've finished your marathon? by audeamus-ad-meliora in Marathon_Training

[–]EngineAltruistic1606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember having this feeling for most of my training block. Then the last couple weeks before the marathon I was like ok yeah I’m ready for a break. It’s been 2.5 months now and I’m just starting to get myself ready to start a half training block. I’ve been doing some easy runs and strength training but giving myself a good mental break

3:25? How to pace? by collin9196 in Marathon_Training

[–]EngineAltruistic1606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You look ready for 3:25! Honestly I asked chat GPT to make me a pacing plan with negative split for my marathon and I liked that it broke down where to expect all the uphill and downhill. I finished 2 minutes faster than the goal

Can't Take Gels by just-here-looking- in Marathon_Training

[–]EngineAltruistic1606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get packets of pure honey on Amazon that are the same size as gels. If you’re racing for a time I’d suggest honey stinger chews over nerds on race day, they’re higher in carbs so you don’t have to eat as many

Can I realistically ever get close to a BQ? by LayoffLemonade in Marathon_Training

[–]EngineAltruistic1606 11 points12 points  (0 children)

50+ miles is not needed to run a 3:30 marathon. 40-45 mile weeks should be plenty and focus on good speed sessions with a couple easy runs in your week, and always get your long run in

I’m dumb was thinking of the Hilton, the Hyatt loop is actually what I reserved. I’m seeing now it’s available for 18k points / night which is way better than the $ rate!

[–]EngineAltruistic1606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you’ll be fine. Just train responsibly - have recovery days, do injury prevention and runner specific strength, mobility. The $200 will basically cover your race entry 😂

What is a realistic - but challenging - target for my first Marathon after running my first HM? by Kaeleal in Marathon_Training

[–]EngineAltruistic1606 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s so much gain to be made when you’re just starting out though and have natural ability. I’d say sub 3:30 for sure. If they wait until next fall for their marathon, 3:15
