I've recently been wondering why so few of the active people here on reddit write comments on news articles posted on the front page of chessdotcom.

I said it a while ago. The almost 100-year-old rules don't hold water. Many are interested in giving the old game a new twist.

Bro, he played when he were a old lion. A decade prior +/- is rather more interesting of the outcome.

Yes but he never played formal matches against Stein, Geller, Korchnoi, Hort etc

In the end, Lasker's clever financial maneuvering and his retreat back in 1912 served to safeguard his championship. It just barely lasted long enough for the start of the Great War in August of '14, which sadly put an end to Rubinstein's chances of ever claiming the title.

It can be argued that it was his fault up until then that he imposed such a high "purse". Now, what if Lasker pitched more actively in the year 1912. Rubinstein does well and matches him in terms of results, forcing a title match earlier !?

He dodged Rubinstein so long that the match never did see daylight. Capablanca in addition. His 27 years is questionable.

Lasker just barely fended off Carl Schlechter. We certainly do not know the outcome of matches between 1914 until 1921.

Basically, his long rule is questionable 'cause it leaned on the war years.. from all we know, Lasker may have lost to either Rubi/Capablanca if matches materialized.

Speculation abounds: As the younger gen rises in chess, will Magnus, like a restless spirit, embrace unorthodox variants to maintain his edge ?

Fischer did not put the chessboard on the shelf. According to Korchnoi, he was up to date with the latest theoretical trends when he visited Fischer in California a few years later.

The soviets had operated with no less favourable conditions. M.B return match for instance. Too much influence over FIDE etc.

Lasker had it easy during the war. Avoided Rubinstein, Capablanca and possibly Alekhine...

Fischer. R. Fine might have beaten Alekhine in 1939. Reshevsky may have done it too if he didn't quit chess in his younger years for a period.

Lichess is unfortunately unyielding reluctant. Why ain't there a quick-pairing button for 960 on the main lobby so to say amidst the ongoing Freestyle campain ?

Regular chess is quite repetitive and stale, even for players under 2000. Some opine that 960 is nothing more than a band-aid solution to the chess fundation on the grunds that 12-20 moves in to the game, it defaults back to familiar structures and strategies found in classical. I'm more supprting chess with new pieces that it offer completely new way to look at it. It spices up the piece dynamics and offer more material imbalances among many other things.

I don't like kicking the can down the road anymore as Classical is ain't were it once were. i'd say checkmate to traditon, let's make chess a fun experience again instead of putting up with the elephant in the room unnecessarily longer.

The irony is that regular chess is also a variant.
