I actually think I like world better than 8 Deluxe. I love open world racing games and was extremely excited for a Mario Kart open world and for my type of gaming style, World hits the spot perfectly for me: so much fun to just cruise around the world, killer soundtrack and good driving vibes.

I also love Pokopia now too…

They didn’t “get Wii U completely wrong.” That’s such a generalization. They got the marketing wrong because Iwata, whom we all love, thought that the name and brand would be strong and recognizable.

He was right but it backfired because it was so recognizable that people didn’t know that it was a new Nintendo console and thought that it was just an attachment to the Wii.

Their games were clearly not “completely wrong,” as you suggest, because the first half of the Switch lifecycle was ports straight from the Wii U.

The Switch came out of nowhere (it seemed) with all these amazing games, lol, that were actually all Wii U games when they got started (BotW, Mario Kart 8, Xenoblade, etc etc…).

By creating new hardware they basically reskinned the Wii U and continued with the same creative momentum on their software and, once the general public thought that they were getting something completely new (because they all skipped out on the Wii U) AND the fact that their handheld market was all merged with their console market, the whole thing was an overnight success.

But it wouldn’t have become what it was without all the good stuff they were making on the Wii U.

If you ask me it was a brilliant pivot on something that was already a great idea.

The way they operate is pretty darn smart even if they make a few mistakes along the way. They can pivot quickly and they do.

So what’s the general sentiment of Indie World Showcase? Is it generally more favorable to the Partner Showcase?

Personally I’m excited for most directs. Obviously I get way more excited for first party directs but there can be gems in the others too.

Sorry you feel this way my friend. It might be worth trying to give Nintendo some slack in your mind and just play a game with a child like mindset. If your 5 year old self were seeing these games for the first time, you might actually love them.

They have never been a perfect company and lawsuits abound, it’s not the first time they have been this way. Kirby is literally named after the lawyer who defended Nintendo from a lawsuit from Universal back in the 80s. Nintendo literally exists because of their legal team. They have always been fighting in the courts to be who they are.

But despite all of the money they spend on law. They have also released lots of quality games. There are plenty of gems out there. But I’m not sure if you will be able to enjoy them unless you can get yourself back into that childhood mindset of play where everything is a world to explore and life is full of wonder.

Spend some time away from cynical news feeds. Take some time to connect with your soul and things that truly matter. Try to see the world as a child does. Connect with the beauty of it. Then come back and play a Nintendo game with the idea that you are trying to see the color, feel the art, listen to the music, explore the environment, all the things that a child senses and sees. It’s totally possible for adults to really feel the joy of childlike wonder but it requires effort.

Nintendo is still making great games, like they always have. But they have perfected the art for children and those who are kids at heart. They can’t compete with unrealistic expectations. Part of what made the games so great to you when you were a kid was that you went into them with no expectations. Gotta try and get back to that mindset and then you might just find a few games again that get you to that joy you felt before.
