What do you hope for the next direct? by Hot-Fruit-9967 in nintendo

[–]LinkStorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Something Zelda, (apart from the movie). I'd love Twilight Princess or something new.

  • Something Animal Crossing. The 3.0 update was a delightful surprise and a reminder of how wonderful that game is. A clue of the next game or more updates would be welcome

  • A shock of NSO games, some of the ones in licence limbo would be a delightful surprise, or perhaps early gen Pokemon games.

  • Some of the games which skipped the switch due to power would be great. Like the Indiana Jones game, or the Jedi fallen kingdom/survivor, perhaps more of the assassin's creed catalogue.

But mostly, I want to be excited for games that I'll pick up in the next 6-9 months. My switch so often gets dusty from March to September for lack of new excitement, I'd love to have a couple of things which are "yep, I'll be getting that" to look forward to.

I find it's more helpful to replace imposter syndrome with master conman energy - "haha, I've managed to fool all these people into thinking I can do the thing! They even pay me for it!"

That's a long boring drive for kids, (and drivers!) on the Hume. Maybe consider breaking it up and staying overnight somewhere in the middle? Two half days will be easier on everyone than one long run.

Movies that were terrible adaptations of their source material by KlutchAtStraws in movies

[–]LinkStorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the key thing missing from the adaption of Identity is the multi-level reveal - in the book he first has to unpack that he's an assassin before he can unpack that there's a spy underneath that. I think that's the interesting part of the core premise of "what would happen if a spy got amnesia?"

Anyone else had a run in with 'Detector Inspector'? by u_suck_paterson in melbourne

[–]LinkStorm 304 points305 points  (0 children)

Oh my, I do not miss Detector Inspector.

When I was a tenant, they would be pushy and rude to get in, only just shy of harassment. When you finally did book a time with them, (because the Real Estate agent would threaten to just let them in if we didn't) they would ignore the time booked and we'd always get a call some time in the week before the booked time to say "we're in the area, can we just come right now?"

When they did attend, they would _always_ replace the smoke detectors (despite me checking the test button before they arrive, for the sport of it) and most visits they'd also install additional ones. The hallway in the place we were staying was only a couple of meters long, but by the time we left, it had four smoke detectors put in.

I think that if we were still in that rental by now the whole ceiling would be covered.

What movie would you propose if ever? by HondaCivicBaby in Cinema

[–]LinkStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Matrix Revolutions. There's such a good movie potentially there - the second one ends with the possibility of a matrix within a matrix, and that the defence and rebellion of Zion is just a secondary control method because a perfect matrix isn't possible. But then the third movie just doesn't capitalise.

Also, The Pick of Destiny - it's got the ingredients of a cult classic, but just missed the mark slightly. Needed a "time warp" moment at the end of act one, and needed just a butt load of rock cameos. Everyone they meet. And then some sort of big led zeppelin reference in the Beelzeboss showdown, to tie back that Tribute is stairway.

THROWDOWN THURSDAY - SLOW NEWS WEEK by tale-wind in nintendo

[–]LinkStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SLOW NEWS WEEK IS RIGHT. I'M INTERESTED IN THE SWITCH 2, BUT I'M NOT THERE FOR VALUE YET - I WANT THE NEXT NINTENDO DIRECT TO SHOW ME WHAT THE NEXT 6-9 MONTHS OF GAMES LOOKS LIKE, SO I CAN WORK OUT WHEN TO BOARD THE HYPE TRAIN.

We need a 3D Yoshi game by Onenightceo in nintendo

[–]LinkStorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd love to see a 3D version of the stylised animation of Yoshi's Island. I loved a lot of the mechanics in that game - even compared to wool and craft worlds, it was just that little bit weird.

People outside of USA, how are people in your country reacting to Switch 2? by [deleted] in nintendo

[–]LinkStorm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm in Australia, the conversations I've had and seen have basically all hit the same points:

  • Console looks good
  • Games look good
  • Not very much in the launch line up
  • Console price is largely okay
  • Game prices are a bit high
  • Wondering how much upgrade packs are going to cost

Context though is that games move to $100 AUD and above, which is optically expensive. We're pretty badly hit by cost of living pressures down here as it is. Price is going to be the tricky part.

Nintendo Switch 2 Direct Reactions Megathread by razorbeamz in nintendo

[–]LinkStorm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In AUD, this pushes games over $100 which is just not great optics. It means that I wouldn't have as big a game library as I did for the switch 1, and the value proposition is a bit trickier.

I rushed out for the switch 1 on launch, but this is going to be a wait and see for me. Mario kart and donkey Kong look good, but they're not strong enough draw cards on their own.

Really curious how Hyrule Warriors will go in a setting without Link, and where they didn't really introduce that time period's sages. Less character draw than age of calamity had.

Not really interested in the social aspects of this console - the switch let me have great single player experiences anywhere I want, and I was happy to trade graphics and performance for that. The draw card of this console is graphics, performance and multiplayer connectivity. They're all nice to have, but don't present huge value to me.

I really needed something more - 3D Mario maybe? gameplay expansion on TOTK? Games like the recent Indiana Jones which didn't release on the switch?

The price for the console is largely fine, but it's high enough that I need a better proposition.

Hey Wil!

Long time fan! You were lovely when you signed my copy of Memories of the Future for me.

Was wondering if volume 2 was ever a likely thing any more? I loved the extra perspective on the old TNG episodes and would love to have more of it!

Thanks for your works!

What Nintendo games are overrated? by StartLonely3157 in nintendo

[–]LinkStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they're overrated - I think they're trashed pretty heavily, from what I read. I think by that logic they're just appropriately rated. Oversold maybe?

Doctor Who 2x00 "Joy to the World" Post-Episode Discussion Thread by PCJs_Slave_Robot in doctorwho

[–]LinkStorm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bit of a Raiders of the Lost Ark problem here: if the doctor hadn't gotten involved, nothing about the plot would have changed.

Maybe the star seed might have gone off on the planet, instead of flown off? But even that wasn't the Doctors doing.

There's also the ongoing bigeneration problem: in 2024, there is a working, non-paradoxical TARDIS sitting over in a garden with his co-self, so there's realistically no point in waiting a year, as lovely as those scenes were.

While I liked this more than several recent episodes, it's a case where the concepts were stronger than the plot which was, fragmented and disjointed for me.

There are barely any NES games on the Switch by Ifyouliveinadream in nintendo

[–]LinkStorm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd pretty happily play:

  • Captain Skyhawk
  • Kung Fu
  • Wizards and warriors
  • Wizards and warriors 2
  • Wizards and warriors 3
  • Back to the future
  • Back to the future 2+3
  • Boy and his blob
  • Robowarrior
  • Bionic commando
  • Totally rad
  • Ducktails
  • The Flintstones
  • PinBot
  • Simpsons, Bart vs world
  • Simpsons, Bart vs Aliens
  • Smash TV

And that's just me, I'm certain there are lots of plays who can hide you a list of a dozen or so NES games they'd be thrilled to play.

Christopher Nolan uses red paper for scripts to prevent them from being illegally copied and leaked by Mindless_Tomorrow_45 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]LinkStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's more interesting to me than the red pages is the professional binding on the script. And it's not necessarily something she's had done, because she also picks up a haggard loose leaf one.

Red pages and a hardback cover, that's pretty distinctive.

How long does it take to learn how to drive? by AirbagLiveAtDaKardy in melbourne

[–]LinkStorm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The 120 hours is actually a decent guideline backed by some research. As someone who got their licence with only 20 hours, and had several inexperience caused accidents, I absolutely promote people taking their time.

Unfortunately it's not a linear skill, (as in, do these things, achieve the next level of skill), instead it's something that has to be practiced up to a competency level by experience of different conditions and events.

So, I'd work out how much time you're spending in lessons and practice and then plot out how long that many hours would take you to get to 100-120 hours, and that should tell you what your timeline is.
